Chris Martin RP | TEX
Red Sox's Chris Martin: In mix for saves
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Sunday that he will "mix and match" at closer with Martin and Justin Slaten following the injury to Kenley Jansen (shoulder), Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
Martin stepped into the closer role for the Red Sox late last season after Jansen's campaign ended prematurely and will now be in the mix for saves again for the final week of this year. The veteran reliever has put up a 3.48 ERA and superb 48:2 K:BB over 41.1 innings out of Boston's bullpen this season.

Enoli Paredes RP | BAL
Cubs' Enoli Paredes: Claimed off waivers by Cubs
The Cubs claimed Paredes off waivers from the Brewers on Monday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
Paredes will remain in the division after the Brewers booted him from their 40-man roster after he posted a 1.74 ERA and 14:10 K:BB over 20.2 innings in the big leagues. The 28-year-old does not have any minor-league options remaining, so he will be added to the Cubs' 28-man active roster.

Kenley Jansen RP | DET
Red Sox's Kenley Jansen: IL move made official
The Red Sox placed Jansen on the 15-day injured list Monday with right shoulder inflammation, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
The move was reported Sunday and now the transaction is official, which ends Jansen's season. Jansen has battled through a shoulder problem throughout this month, and since the Red Sox are out of the playoff hunt, they have opted to go ahead and shut him down. The Red Sox will turn to Chris Martin and Justin Slaten as closer options over the final week of the season. Jansen will be a free agent this offseason and has likely thrown his last pitch for the Red Sox.

Gavin Hollowell RP | CHC
Cubs' Gavin Hollowell: Joins big-league bullpen
The Cubs recalled Hollowell from Triple-A Iowa on Monday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
Hollowell was claimed off waivers from the Diamondbacks in August and will now get his first stint in the majors with the Cubs. The 26-year-old holds a 4.94 ERA and 45:21 K:BB across 31 innings this season at the Triple-A level.

Trey Wingenter RP | CHC
Cubs' Trey Wingenter: Sent to Triple-A
The Cubs optioned Wingenter to Triple-A Iowa on Monday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
Wingenter has made five relief appearances for the Cubs this season, allowing two runs with a 3:2 K:BB over six frames. He had pitched both of the last two days, so the Cubs are replacing him with a fresh arm in Gavin Hollowell, who was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Caleb Kilian RP | SF
Cubs' Caleb Kilian: Receives promotion
The Cubs recalled Kilian from Triple-A Iowa on Monday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Right-hander Nate Pearson is serving as the Cubs' opening pitcher for Monday's game in Philadelphia, but he's likely to cover only an inning or two before turning the contest over to the bullpen. Kilian will be available out of the bullpen and may end up taking on a bulk-relief role for the Cubs, as his final start with Iowa came six days earlier. Kilian made three appearances (one start) for the Cubs in 2023 but has pitched exclusively in the minors in 2024, turning in a 3.22 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 38:14 K:BB over 44.2 innings with Iowa.
-
Jorge Lopez RP | WAS
Cubs' Jorge Lopez: Goes back on IL
The Cubs placed Lopez on the 15-day injured list Monday with a right groin strain, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
Lopez returned from the same injury just last week, so he evidently must have suffered a setback. The injury ends what was a nice bounce-back season for Lopez, who collected a 2.89 ERA and 50:19 K:BB over 53 innings covering 52 appearances for the Mets and Cubs. He'll be a free agent this offseason.

Shelby Miller RP | CHC
Tigers' Shelby Miller: Set to lose roster spot
The Tigers are expected to designate Miller for assignment prior to Tuesday's game against the Rays, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Detroit plans to call up top pitching prospect Jackson Jobe in a corresponding move, with the young right-hander set to take Miller's spot on the 40-man roster and in the big-league bullpen. Miller has made 51 appearances for Detroit this season, logging a 4.53 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 49:13 K:BB across 55.2 innings while gathering six wins, five holds and two saves.

Ron Marinaccio RP | SD
White Sox's Ron Marinaccio: Claimed by South Siders
The White Sox claimed Marinaccio off waivers from the Yankees on Monday.
The White Sox had the highest waiver priority of any team and used it to scoop up Marinaccio, who had been designated for assignment by the Yankees last Friday. Marinaccio has spent a large chunk of 2024 in the minors, but he's posted a career 3.22 ERA and 137:61 K:BB over 114.2 innings covering parts of three seasons in the majors. He's been optioned to Double-A Binghamton for the time being.

Justin Martinez RP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Justin Martinez: Handed blown save, loss
Martinez (5-6) was charged with a blown save and the loss after allowing one run on three hits and no walks over one-third of an inning Sunday against the Brewers.
Arizona held an 8-0 lead after two and a half frames Sunday, but Martinez and the rest of the bullpen were unable to maintain the advantage. The right-hander entered with two outs in the eighth inning and the Diamondbacks leading 9-7, and he proceeded to give up three runs (two inherited runners) on two singles, a double and a wild pitch. A.J. Puk picked up a save Friday in Milwaukee, which combined with Martinez's save Sept. 4 account for Arizona's only saves so far this month. Martinez should be the favorite for saves in the final week of the regular season, but the lefty Puk is also in the mix.
