Cubs manager Craig Counsell acknowledged Wednesday that Brown (neck) is unlikely to return from the 60-day injured list this season, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

On the shelf since June 11 with a stress reaction in his neck, Brown resumed throwing shortly after landing on the IL, but he's been shut down on two occasions since then while continuing to experience lingering discomfort. The rookie right-hander remains at the Cubs' complex in Arizona for his rehab program, but he's not yet doing much pitching work and doesn't look like he'll be able to complete a throwing progression within the next month to put himself in position to join Chicago even as a relief option late in the season. Brown generated a 3.58 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 64:19 K:BB over 55.1 innings spanning 15 appearances (eight starts) this season prior to suffering the injury. He should be ready to go for spring training and will have a chance to stake claim to a rotation spot.

The Guardians designated Gose for assignment Wednesday, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports.

The 34-year-old lefty reliever has now been dropped from the Guardians' 40-man roster three times within the past three weeks and will most likely clear waivers again and stick around in the Cleveland organization. The Guardians called up lefty Erik Sabrowski to replace Gose on the roster and in the bullpen. Gose has made two appearances for the big club this month, giving up three earned runs on six hits and one walk over 3.1 innings.

Scott worked a perfect ninth inning Tuesday to record his 20th save of the season in a 7-5 win over the Cardinals.

The southpaw fired 10 of 15 pitches for strikes as he collected his second save since being traded to the Padres. Robert Suarez was unavailable after pitching each of the prior two days, but he's also been tagged for a run in four of his last eight appearances. If Suarez's struggles continue, Scott could get the call in the ninth more frequently over the final weeks of the season as San Diego looks to lock down a playoff spot.

Duran (6-8) took the loss Tuesday, coughing up four runs (three earned) on four hits in one-third of an inning in an 8-6 extra-inning loss to Atlanta. He struck out one.

Called in for the top of the 10th inning in a 4-4 tie, Duran gave up a double to Marcell Ozuna to lead off the frame and never found his footing. The Twins' closer has been tagged for runs in six of 14 appearances since the All-Star break, stumbling to a 5.84 ERA and 1.62 WHIP over that stretch despite a 20:3 K:BB in 12.1 innings. Duran's recent struggles seem largely due to bad luck -- his average exit velocity allowed on the season sits in the 91st percentile, while his groundball rate is in the 98th percentile.

Rasmussen will serve as the Rays' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

Rasmussen will be making his third start of the season, but as was the case on the previous two occasions, he'll likely be limited to one or two innings. Tyler Alexander is expected to be deployed as a bulk reliever behind Rasmussen.

Iglesias (4-1) blew the save but picked up the win in Tuesday's 8-6 extra-inning victory over the Twins, allowing one hit over 1.1 scoreless innings. He struck out two.

The Atlanta closer entered the game with two outs and the tying run on second base in the eighth inning, and Trevor Larnach dumped a single into left field to tag Iglesias with his third blown save of the season and first since May 3. The right-hander then worked a clean ninth and saw his offense erupt for four runs in the top of the 10th. Iglesias hasn't given up an earned run since June 16, a stretch of 26.1 innings in which he's delivered a 0.27 WHIP and 32:2 K:BB.

Chivilli (1-2) allowed one earned run on one hit and no walks while striking out one to take the loss and blow the save Tuesday against the Marlins.

Chivilli entered the game in the ninth inning with runners on second and third and the Rockies holding onto a two-run lead. Tyler Kinley began the frame and imploded to allow four earned runs, but Chivilli still had the chance to close the door on the win. Instead, he served up a three-run home run to Jesus Sanchez. Since being recalled to the majors Aug. 1, Chivilli has maintained a 2.77 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with an 11:3 K:BB across 13 frames and has quickly found himself in a high-leverage role.

Wesneski (forearm) will throw a live batting practice session Wednesday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

It will be Wesneski's first time facing hitters since he went down with a right forearm strain more than a month ago. The right-hander would appear to be closing in on a rehab assignment, with a return in early September likely. Wesneski holds a 3.94 ERA and 58:21 K:BB over 61.2 innings in a swingman role for the Cubs this season.

Kinley allowed four earned runs on three hits and a walk while failing to record an out Tuesday against the Marlins.

Kinley has picked up the lone save for the Rockies since Victor Vodnik (shoulder) was placed on the injured list, and he entered Tuesday's game in the ninth inning with a four-run lead. Though he wasn't charged with a blown save or loss, Kinley allowed all four batters he faced to reach base, concluding with a two-run double with the bases loaded. It's unclear whether this meltdown will affect his status as closer, though Kinley had maintained a 1.53 WHIP and 0.74 WHIP across 17.2 innings since the All-Star break prior to Tuesday's appearance.

The Blue Jays optioned Eisert to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.

Eisert served as the 27th man for Toronto on Monday as it completed a suspended game and played another contest in Boston. He was available for the nightcap but did not make an appearance.
