Hader (0-3) blew the save and took the loss in Wednesday's 5-4 loss against the Cardinals. He allowed two runs on two hits while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning.

After quickly logging the first two outs in the ninth, Hader gave up a double to Masyn Winn before Tommy Edman belted a two-run homer, handing Hader and the Padres a 5-4 loss. It's the first time Hader's blown a save or allowed an earned run since May 31, a span of 26 appearances (23.2 innings). He still sports a stellar 1.16 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP and 74:25 K:BB across 46.2 innings while going 28-for-33 in save chances.

Kansas City placed McMillon on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a right forearm strain.

The 25-year-old has posted a 2.25 ERA with eight strikeouts in four major-league innings (four appearances) since getting the call Aug. 16 from Double-A Northwest Arkansas, but he'll be sidelined for at least the next couple of weeks. Taylor Clarke (personal) is returning to the Royals' bullpen in a corresponding move.

Kansas City activated Clarke from the family medical emergency list ahead of Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Clarke had been away from the Royals since Friday. The 30-year-old right-hander returns to a 5.55 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 52:21 K:BB in 48.2 innings for the season.

The Mets optioned Coonrod to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

Coonrod will head to the minors to make room on the 26-man active roster for right-hander Denyi Reyes, who was called up from Syracuse ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday versus the Rangers. Since being reinstated from the 60-day injured list Aug. 14, Coonrod has posted a 1.69 ERA and 0.94 WHIP over 5.1 innings in seven appearances out of the bullpen.

Reyes was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday versus the Rangers at Citi Field.

Reyes will pick up his third start of the season with the Mets. He's pitched to a 4.15 ERA and 1.12 WHIP while covering at least five frames in each of his last five starts for Syracuse, but Reyes owns much less impressive ratios (7.50 ERA, 1.92 WHIP, 8.6 K-BB%) over 12 innings in the majors this season. Unless another team puts in a claim for right-hander Carlos Carrasco -- who was placed on waivers Tuesday -- Reyes may not stick around with the Mets beyond Wednesday's start.

King is lined up to receive another start Sunday at Houston, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

King built his pitch count up to 61 in his most recent start Tuesday versus the Tigers while striking out five batters over four scoreless innings. Jhony Brito will likely be available in bulk relief Sunday against the Astros, but King is perhaps making a case to be treated as more of a traditional starter rather than just an opening pitcher. The 28-year-old right-hander boasts an overall 2.96 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 87:25 K:BB in 73 innings this season for the Yankees.

Detroit optioned Hill to Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

The 27-year-old right-hander heads back to the farm to clear out a 26-man roster spot for Joey Wentz, who is expected to serve as the Tigers' bulk pitcher Wednesday versus the Yankees. Hill has been lit up for 20 runs -- 16 earned -- in 15.2 big-league innings this season.

White will serve as the Tigers' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

The Tigers will likely call on White to cover one or two innings before he exits the contest and turns the game over to Joey Wentz, who will be called up from Triple-A Toledo and is expected to work in bulk relief. White is serving as an opener for the second time this season after he previously made his first MLB start July 1 in Colorado.

Pirates manager Derek Shelton said Jackson will start Wednesday's game against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Jackson tossed six innings of two-run ball in a bulk-relief role during his last appearance Thursday against the Cubs, but he'll pick up his third start of the season in his return to the hill. Since being acquired from the Dodgers in late June and then joining the big club earlier this month, Jackson has delivered a 3.32 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 20:5 K:BB in 19 innings through his first five outings with the Pirates.

Zerpa is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Pirates at Kauffman Stadium, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Zerpa made his latest appearance out of the bullpen this past Saturday in Seattle while Zack Greinke moved back into a traditional starting role earlier this week, but the Royals will turn to Zerpa for a spot start Wednesday since Brady Singer (arm) is having his turn in the rotation skipped. Assuming the brief respite is all Singer needs to overcome his bout with arm fatigue, Zerpa will likely head back to the bullpen following Wednesday's start. Between his previous two starts with Kansas City this season, Zerpa has given up five earned runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out 10 over seven innings.
