Bednar recorded his 20th save of the season Wednesday in a 3-2 win over the Padres, giving up one run on one hit, two walks and a hit by pitch while striking out two.

The right-hander established a new career high in saves, topping the 19 he collected in 2022, but Bednar made things interesting by loading the bases with one out then issuing a free pass to Juan Soto on four pitches. Pitching around Soto worked out in the end, however, as Bednar retired the next two batters. The 28-year-old closer has seen his name mentioned in trade rumors due to his stellar 1.35 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 49:11 K:BB through 40 innings on the year, but the Pirates seem reluctant to move the Pittsburgh native, who's still under team control through 2026.

Young retired the lone batter faced in Wednesday's 3-0 loss to the Brewers.

Young finished off the seventh inning after starter Ben Lively ceded a two-run home run to Tyrone Taylor. Finishing off innings is Young's job, and he's been executing well of late. The left-hander has not allowed a run in 13 outings (8.2 innings), and owns a 1.50 ERA over the last 32 appearances (24 innings). For the season, Young has a 2.25 ERA with 38 strikeouts and 15 walks over 40 innings.

Antone (elbow) struck one over a scoreless inning for the Reds' affiliate in the Arizona Complex League on Tuesday, MLB.com reports.

Antone is working his way back from a second Tommy John surgery and recently had a setback with a sore right shoulder. Cincinnati manager David Bell received good reports on the outing and said, if all goes well, Antone is projected to rejoin the Reds bullpen by Aug. 19.

McGough allowed four runs on four hits while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning in Wednesday's 11-7 loss to St. Louis.

McGough hung a couple of splitters that turned into a pair of two-run home runs in the eighth inning. The Diamondbacks' offense showed life, coming back from a pair of small deficits during the game, but did not have enough to overcome what McGough left them. The outing was the fifth in the reliever's last six that he's allowed runs. The right-hander owns a 16.50 ERA during that span. McGough is one of several important bullpen arms that have contributed to Arizona's slide this month -- five wins, 14 losses since July 2.

Jansen allowed one hit and struck out one batter in a scoreless inning to earn a save against Atlanta on Wednesday.

Jansen hit the first batter he faced in the ninth frame to put the tying run on base, but he managed to get out of the inning unscathed with the help of catcher Connor Wong, who threw out Atlanta speedster Forrest Wall on a stolen-base attempt with one out. For Jansen, the key stat is that he recorded his 13th straight successful save, and he hasn't blown an opportunity since May 12. The veteran closer has tempted fate all season with a career-worst 1.35 WHIP, but he's still been very effective in his first season with Boston, collecting 22 saves in 25 chances and posting a 2.97 ERA over 33.1 innings.

Holmes earned a save against the Mets on Wednesday, striking out one batter in a perfect inning.

Holmes had no problem protecting a two-run ninth-inning Yankees lead, throwing 11 of his 14 pitches for strikes and retiring all three batters he faced. The right-hander continues to pitch well after a shaky start to the campaign, holding the opponent scoreless in 28 of his past 31 outings. Over that span, he's posted a minuscule 0.88 ERA and 0.95 WHIP while notching a 38:11 K:BB and recording 10 saves in 11 chances across 30.2 frames.

Harris (2-5) allowed two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out three over 3.1 innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Giants.

Harris followed opener Freddy Tarnok, who gave up three runs over 2.2 innings. Oakland briefly tied the game while Harris was on the mound, but he surrendered a two-run home run to Austin Slater in the sixth inning. Harris has taken the loss in five of his last seven outings, though this was the shortest one in that span. He's at a 6.07 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 49:23 K:BB through 56.1 innings over 12 appearances (five starts) this season. The southpaw is tentatively lined up for a challenging road matchup against the Dodgers next week.

The Angels acquired Lopez and right-hander Lucas Giolito from the White Sox on Wednesday in exchange for catcher Edgar Quero and left-hander Ky Bush, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Lopez has taken a noticeable step back from his 2022 campaign, posting a 4.29 ERA and 1.31 WHIP through 42 innings in Chicago this season. He'll now help shore up the Los Angeles bullpen and likely serve primarily in middle relief due to consistency issues.

Alzolay pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record the save in Wednesday's win over the White Sox.

A night after striking out the side to record a save, Alzolay retired the White Sox in order again to register his 11th save of the season in 12 chances. The righty is settling in as the Cubs' closer and should have decent job security at this point given his strong 2.40 ERA and 0.93 WHIP across 45 innings, to go along with 51 strikeouts.

The Red Sox transferred Ort (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

Ort was initially placed on the injured list July 7 due to right elbow inflammation, and he'll now remain out through the beginning of September. His transfer clears a 40-man spot for Mauricio Llovera, who was acquired in a trade with San Francisco on Wednesday.
