  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Fans season-high eight

Arrighetti didn't factor into the decision against the Angels on Saturday, allowing one run on one hit and five walks while striking out eight over 6.1 innings.

Arrighetti kept the Angels hitless into the third inning before surrendering a solo homer to Zach Neto, which accounted for both his only hit and run allowed. Despite the strong overall line, the right-hander's control issues resurfaced with five walks, a problem that had also plagued him in recent outings. Even so, Saturday's performance brought positives, as Arrighetti set a season high with eight strikeouts and notched his first quality start since returning from the injured list.

  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Angels' Kyle Hendricks: Settles for no-decision

Hendricks didn't factor into the decision against the Astros on Saturday, allowing one run on seven hits while striking out two over six innings.

Hendricks gave up at least one hit in every inning except his last, but he managed to limit the damage by holding Houston to just a 1-for-8 tally with runners in scoring position, with the one hit coming on Jesus Sanchez's third-inning RBI infield single. The outing was a much-needed rebound for the veteran, who had surrendered 16 earned runs over 18.2 innings across his previous four starts entering Saturday. The right-hander will take his 4.89 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 89:37 K:BB into his next scheduled start against Kansas City, a potentially favorable streaming spot considering the Royals are sitting near the bottom of the league in production against righties.

  • Gavin Williams SP | CLE

Guardians' Gavin Williams: Fans eight in victory

Williams (9-5) earned the win over Seattle on Saturday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out eight batters over seven innings.

Williams got through six scoreless frames before serving up a solo homer to Jorge Polanco in the seventh. That was the only run the Mariners managed against the righty hurler, who racked up 16 whiffs. This was an excellent bounce-back effort for Williams, who gave up three runs and lasted just 3.1 innings against the Rangers in his previous start. Despite that rough outing, Williams has been very good in the second half of the season, recording a 2.33 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 48:16 K:BB through 46.1 frames.

  • Shane Smith RP | CHW

White Sox's Shane Smith: Delivers another quality start

Smith didn't factor into the decision against the Yankees on Saturday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out seven over 6.1 innings.

The right-hander carried momentum from arguably his best outing of the season earlier in the week, a seven-inning, one-hit shutout of the Royals, and was sharp again against MLB's highest-scoring offense. Smith retired 10 of his first 11 batters before surrendering a solo homer to Aaron Judge in the fourth inning and later gave up another long ball to Austin Wells in the seventh. Aside from the two mistakes, Smith limited New York to just one other hit while racking up strikeouts. The 25-year-old will take a 3.81 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 112:50 K:BB across 120.1 innings into his next scheduled start against the Twins.

  • Yankees' Cam Schlittler: Caps off strong August

Schlittler didn't factor into the decision against the White Sox on Saturday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out eight over six innings.

Following back-to-back scoreless starts, the rookie kept his breakout run alive Saturday, notching his third consecutive outing of at least six frames and eight punchouts. This performance lowered Schlittler's ERA for the month of August to 1.60 alongside a 39:11 K:BB across 33.2 innings. The right-hander is quickly establishing himself as a reliable piece of New York's rotation, though his next scheduled start comes against the Blue Jays, who are among the league leaders in OPS against right-handers.

  • Dustin May SP | STL

Red Sox's Dustin May: Fades late in Saturday's loss

May (7-11) took the loss Saturday, coughing up seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and four walks over 5.1 innings as the Red Sox fell 10-3 to the Pirates. He struck out five.

Boston held an early 2-1 lead as May gave up only an unearned run through four innings, but the wheels began to come off for the right-hander in the fifth after a leadoff single by Isiah Kiner-Falefa. May has been tagged for at least four runs in four of his last eight starts, stumbling to a 6.13 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 38:18 K:BB over 39.2 innings during that stretch. He'll look to bounce back in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend in Arizona.

  • Ryan Pepiot RP | TB

Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Blanks Nats in 10th win

Pepiot (10-10) picked up the win Saturday, allowing one hit and three walks over five scoreless innings in a 4-1 victory over the Nationals. He struck out six.

The Rays staked Pepiot to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and he never looked back, racking up 15 swinging strikes among his 93 pitches (53 total strikes). The right-hander has won four of his last five starts, lasting at least five innings in each and posting a 3.25 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 27:10 K:BB over 27.2 innings. Pepiot lines up to make his next outing at home next week against the Guardians.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | TOR

Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Fans eight in no-decision

Gausman didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Brewers, allowing one run on four hits over seven innings. He struck out eight without walking a batter.

The veteran righty rose to the challenge of facing the team with the best record in the league, firing 66 strikes among his 96 pitches in his 13th quality start of the season, but the Blue Jays couldn't give him much run support in a game that got decided in the ninth inning. Over eight outings since the All-Star break, Gausman has produced a 2.82 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 53:9 K:BB in 51 innings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next trip to the mound, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend in Yankee Stadium.

  • Payton Tolle SP | BOS

Red Sox's Payton Tolle: Date of next start uncertain

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Saturday that he's unsure if Tolle will start on four days' rest Wednesday versus Cleveland, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports

Tolle shined in his MLB debut Friday, allowing two runs on three hits with two walks and eight strikeouts over 5.1 innings in a no-decision against Pittsburgh. While the rookie southpaw should get another turn in the rotation, Healey notes that Tolle wasn't regularly pitching on four days of rest in the minors, so the Red Sox -- who will have an off day Thursday -- may opt to hold him back until next Friday's game in Arizona. That decision isn't set in stone yet, as Cora said the team is still thinking about who will start Wednesday.

  • Easton Lucas RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Easton Lucas: Summoned back to big club

Toronto recalled Lucas from Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday.

Lucas got into six MLB games (five as a starter) earlier this season, posting a 6.66 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 23:12 K:BB over 24.1 innings. He pitched very well over his past three Triple-A outings, allowing just one run with a 16:6 K:BB over 14.2 frames, and will now get another chance with the big club. Lucas will likely work out of the bullpen this time around, though, as he's taking the roster spot of fellow lefty Justin Bruihl, who was optioned to Buffalo in a corresponding move.
