Quantrill did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks over six innings in the Guardians' win over Tampa Bay. He struck out two.

Quantrill was on an MLB mound for the first time since July 5 and settled in nicely after allowing a run in each of the first two innings. It was the first time he completed at least six innings since May 13. The 28-year-old lowered his season ERA to 6.16 with a 40:25 K:BB through 73 innings. Quantrill is currently projected for a road outing against the Angels next week.

Glasnow (7-5) allowed three runs on seven hits over seven innings Friday, striking out six and taking a loss against the Guardians.

Glasnow gave up one run through six innings before coughing up a pair in the seventh. He's given up eight earned runs over his last 19 innings, raising his season ERA from 3.01 to 3.17 in the process. However, he owns a 2.50 ERA across 68.1 innings in his last 11 outings. Glasnow will carry a 120:27 K:BB into his next appearance, which is lined up to be at home against Boston.

Mize (elbow/shoulder) is aiming to resume his throwing program early next week, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Mize experienced some shoulder fatigue while tossing live batting practice Wednesday, but it shouldn't be too much of a setback in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. That said, the 26-year-old right-hander could run out of time to make it back to the majors before the conclusion of the 2023 regular season.

Giolito is set to make his Guardians debut in a start Monday versus the Twins, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Giolito was claimed off waivers from the Angels on Thursday, and the Guardians hope that he can turn things around to help them chase down Minnesota in the AL Central. The 29-year-old right-hander struggled to a 6.89 ERA in 32.2 innings (six starts) for the Halos, who acquired him from the White Sox in late July for prospects Edgar Quero and Ky Bush.

Williams (knee) is expected to return to the rotation next Wednesday against the Twins, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Williams will get a bit of extra rest after exiting his last start Tuesday versus Minnesota due to right knee soreness, but it's a relatively minor concern. The 24-year-old right-hander has pitched to a solid 3.46 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 68:27 K:BB across his first 65 major-league innings (13 starts) this season for the Guardians.

Kansas City placed Singer (arm) on the paternity leave list Friday.

It had already been announced that Singer would have his next turn through the Royals' rotation skipped due to arm fatigue, and now he can spend the time off with his growing family. The 27-year-old right-hander has a 5.15 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 125:44 K:BB through 143.1 innings (26 starts) this season.

Gaddis was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Friday, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Gaddis picked up a win in a three-inning relief outing in his last appearance but now finds himself back in the minors following a wave of waiver claims by the Guardians. He's posted a 4.85 ERA over 10 appearances (six starts) for Cleveland this season.

Quantrill (shoulder) was activated from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Friday versus the Rays, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Quantrill is back in the rotation for Cleveland after missing nearly two full months due to shoulder inflammation. The 28-year-old right-hander had posted a rough 6.45 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 38:22 K:BB in 67 innings (13 starts) prior to the lengthy IL stint.

Gil (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Tampa on Friday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

It will be his first game action since he underwent Tommy John surgery last May. While it's possible the Yankees could activate Gil later this month, the most important thing at this point is getting him built back up so he has a chance to contribute as a starter next season. The righty would seem to be a prime candidate for the Arizona Fall League and/or winter ball.

Vasquez was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Vasquez is part of the Yankees' roster expansion as the calendar flips to September. He looks to be ticketed primarily for relief work but is a candidate for some spot starts down the stretch.
