Cortes (shoulder) said Friday he will be shut down from throwing for about a month, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Cortes was surprisingly placed on the 15-day injured list Friday with a left rotator cuff strain. He missed all of June and July with a shoulder injury, so this is a pretty ominous setback as it pertains to his availability for the rest of the regular season. Cortes could resume a throwing program in mid-September, but he would likely need at least one simulated game or rehab start before rejoining the big-league rotation. He struck out eight and allowed one hit and one walk over four innings in his Aug. 5 start against Houston.

The Yankees recalled Brito from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Brito looks poised to fill the rotation spot left vacant by Nestor Cortes, who has landed back on the injured list because of a rotator cuff strain. The rookie could be in line to start or work as a primary pitcher Saturday in Miami.

The Yankees recalled Vasquez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

The 24-year-old right-hander is lined up to work in bulk relief behind opener Ian Hamilton on Friday at Miami. Vasquez should wind up operating as more of a traditional starter down the stretch after the Yankees had to place Nestor Cortes (shoulder) back on the injured list.

Cortes was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Aug. 8, with a left rotator cuff strain.

Cortes just returned this past Saturday from a two-month absence due to a left shoulder strain and struck out eight of the 14 batters he faced in a strong four-inning start against the Astros. His shoulder is apparently still an issue, however, and the 28-year-old southpaw will be shut down from throwing for another month, per Brendan Kuty of The Athletic. This could wind up being a season-ending setback. Jhony Brito has been called up in a corresponding move and will presumably start in Cortes' place this weekend in Miami.

Glasnow (back) will make his next start Monday at San Francisco, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Glasnow had been aiming to start Saturday versus Cleveland and threw a 15-pitch bullpen session Friday at Tropicana Field, but the Rays will play it safe and delay his return a couple additional days. The 29-year-old right-hander hasn't pitched since July 31 due to back spasms.

Glasnow was scratched from his last scheduled turn due to back spasms, but he told reporters after Friday's workout he has "been getting better and better every day." He'll likely be something close to a game-time decision Saturday, but indications are good that the 29-year-old right-hander will indeed be able to take the mound.

Miller (elbow) came away from throwing live batting practice Tuesday feeling good, and the Athletics are currently assessing the next step in his rehab, the team's official site reports.

Miller threw 15 pitches as he faced hitters for the first time since May 8. The Athletics remain optimistic that Miller, who showed plenty of promise with a 3.38 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 9.3 K/9 across his first four big-league starts, will pitch again in the majors this season, but he's likely in store for a fairly lengthy rehab assignment first.

Sale (shoulder) was activated from the 60-day injured list Friday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Sale will make his long-awaited return to the Red Sox' rotation following a two-month absence due to a stress reaction in his left scapula. The veteran left-hander threw just 54 pitches in his second of two rehab starts with Triple-A Worcester and is expected to be limited to around four innings against Detroit on Friday.

Manoah was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports.

After getting tagged for four runs in four innings Thursday against Cleveland, Manoah will once again return to the minors in order to get back on track. The right-hander was optioned all the way down to the Florida Complex League in early June to work on his mechanics, and he's put up a 4.91 ERA and 1.43 WHIP through 29.1 innings since returning to the major-league rotation. Hagen Danner was recalled from Buffalo in a corresponding move.

Manoah (3-9) took the loss Thursday, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks over four innings against Cleveland. He struck out six.

Manoah struggled with his command early on, allowing three walks and two hits over the first two innings, which would lead to two runs coming across for the Guardians. The right-hander then put together two 1-2-3 innings and even struck out the side in the fourth before surrendering back-to-back doubles to open the bottom of the fifth, which led to him being relieved by Genesis Cabrera. The right-hander has allowed at least three runs in four of his last five starts and has failed to make it through five innings in three of those outings.
