Montgomery (2-1) earned the win Tuesday, allowing one run on six hits over six innings in a 7-3 win over the Angels. He struck out nine.

Montgomery delivered a fourth consecutive quality start Tuesday, allowing one run across six innings while tying his season high in strikeouts. The performance also snapped Montgomery's streak of four straight starts allowing a home run. In three starts since being acquired by the Rangers, Montgomery boasts a 2.50 ERA to go along with a 20:2 K:BB over 18 innings. He's tentatively scheduled to toe the rubber again during a two-game series at Arizona early next week.

Javier did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and a walk over 4.2 innings against the Marlins. He struck out two.

Javier hadn't allowed more than three runs in a start since July 3, pitching to a 4.44 ERA over his previous five outings. After holding the Marlins off the board in the first inning, the 26-year-old Javier allowed at least one run in each of his subsequent four innings before he was pulled in the fifth after throwing 95 pitches. Overall, Javier's 8-2 with a 4.49 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 112:42 K:BB across 23 starts (122.1 innings) this season. He'll look to bounce back in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week against Boston.

Faedo tossed five scoreless innings but settled for a no-decision Tuesday against the Twins. He allowed just one hit, a walk and a hit batter while striking out six.

Making his second straight start against Minnesota since getting recalled from Triple-A Toledo, Faedo was very sharp, though the Tigers didn't push him too hard as they limited the righty to 81 pitches. Faedo still left with a chance to earn his third win of the year, but the Detroit bullpen allowed five runs in the eventual 5-3 loss. The 27-year-old should stick in the rotation moving forward, and he will look to build on this promising outing and continue to chip away at his 5.16 ERA. Faedo is tentatively set to start again Sunday against the Guardians.

Allen (6-5) earned the win Tuesday, allowing four hits and three walks over six scoreless innings against the Reds. He struck out seven.

Allen's allowed just three runs over his last three starts (17 innings) after surrendering nine earned runs in his previous two outings. The rookie southpaw lowered his ERA to 3.33 with a 1.36 WHIP and 95:38 K:BB across 18 starts (97.1 innings) this season. Allen will look to keep rolling in his next outing, currently scheduled for this weekend at home against Detroit.

Rays manager Kevin Cash said Tuesday that McClanahan (forearm) will undergo Tommy John surgery, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

McClanahan had already been ruled out for the rest of 2023, but a Tommy John procedure will likely keep him out for all of 2024 as well. The 26-year-old southpaw landed on the injured list Aug. 3 and will undergo surgery sometime next week. He finishes 2023 with a 3.29 ERA and 1.18 WHIP alongside a 121:41 K:BB ratio through 115 innings.

Houck (face) is lined up to return from the injured list and start Monday against the Astros, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

After undergoing surgery to repair a facial fracture suffered in June, Houck is officially set to make his return after a two-month absence. The 27-year-old righty has already made two rehab appearances with Triple-A Worcester, surrendering two runs and striking out six batters over 4.2 innings, and he's slated to make one more start before his return to Boston. Houck put up a 4.32 ERA and 1.16 WHIP across his last five starts prior to landing on the IL.

Ryan (groin) threw a bullpen session Tuesday and is expected to embark on a rehab assignment within the next few days, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Ryan's session reportedly went well, and the start date of his rehab assignment will depend on how he's feeling Wednesday. The Twins haven't indicated how long they plan on keeping Ryan on assignment, but a multiple-start trip would keep him out until at least late August.

Eovaldi (forearm) threw another bullpen session Tuesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Eovaldi pitched the equivalent of two innings during his bullpen Tuesday, and the Rangers were encouraged by what they saw. The 33-year-old righty figures to graduate to facing live hitters soon and could return before the end of the month if the team decides to skip a rehab assignment.

Watkins will start for the Athletics on Tuesday in St. Louis, Jessica Kleinschmidt of The Comeback reports.

It had been Freddy Tarnok's turn, but he's gone down with a calf injury. Watkins was claimed off waivers a week ago and this will be his first start in the majors in 2023. He holds a career 5.85 ERA over 39 appearances -- 30 starts -- at the major-league level.

Hancock is slated to start Tuesday's game in Kansas City.

The rookie will receive a second turn through the rotation after he turned in a solid big-league debut last Wednesday against the Padres. Though he didn't factor into the decision in the Mariners' 6-1 win, Hancock covered five innings and allowed one run on two hits and three walks while striking out three. Tuesday's outing marks what's expected to be the first of two starts this week for Hancock, who tentatively lines up to take the hill again this Sunday in Houston.
