Odorizzi (foot) is optimistic he will be able to return once his stint on the 10-day injured list is up, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The right-hander was placed on the 10-day IL on Tuesday after what he has described as a "flukey" right foot injury. After ruling out the initial concern of a Linsfranc injury, he was diagnosed with a mid-foot sprain. The earliest the 31-year-old could return is Sept. 24, which he seems confident he can do.

Valdez (finger) could start one of the games in the Astros' weekend series against the Diamondbacks, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Valdez cut the index finger on his pitching hand Wednesday and was scratched from his scheduled start Thursday. The team's medical staff hasn't yet determined when the left-hander will be able to return, but he appears to be in line for a relatively brief absence.

Baz won't start Friday's game against Detroit, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The right-hander was in consideration to make his major-league debut Friday, but Luis Patino will instead be pushed up a day. Baz has made 10 starts at Triple-A Durham this year and has recorded a 1.76 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in 46 innings.

Wentz has been shut down for the remainder of the season for rest purposes, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Wentz isn't dealing with an injury, but he won't pitch again in 2021 since the Tigers want to monitor his workload after he underwent Tommy John surgery last year. The southpaw made 18 starts between Low-A Lakeland and Double-A Erie this year, and he recorded a 4.50 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 72 innings.

Taillon (ankle) felt good after Wednesday's bullpen session, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.

Taillon's throwing session Wednesday marked the first time he had thrown off a mound since he landed on the injured list in early September. The right-hander doesn't yet have a timetable to return to game action, but he's expected to throw another bullpen session Saturday. Taillon is eligible to return to the major-league roster as early as Friday, but he'll require some additional time to build up before he's activated.

Severino (shoulder) will throw two innings in a simulated game Friday, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports.

Severino threw a bullpen session Monday and will face hitters Friday for the first time since his rehab assignment was paused in mid-August. The Yankees haven't yet indicated whether the right-hander will require a rehab assignment following Friday's sim game, but he'll likely be in the mix to rejoin the major-league club prior to the end of the season.

Baz is in consideration to start Friday's game against the Tigers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The Rays haven't yet named a starter for Friday's matchup, but Triple-A Durham will now have a bullpen game Friday after Baz was initially slated to start. The right-hander returned to the mound Saturday after he dealt with a stomach virus recently, and he allowed one run on three hits and a walk while striking out 10 in six innings.

Lynch exited Thursday's start against the Athletics due to left calf tightness, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Lynch appeared to tweak his calf on a pitch in the top of the third inning Thursday and was immediately removed from the contest. It's not yet clear whether the issue will force him to miss additional time. If he's able to make his next turn through the rotation, the southpaw tentatively lines up to start Tuesday against Cleveland.

Garcia will start Thursday's game against the Rangers, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Garcia will step in on short notice after Framber Valdez was scratched from Thursday's start due to a small cut on his left hand. However, Garcia will be pitching on normal rest and will attempt to bounce back after he gave up four runs in five innings to take the loss against the Angels on Saturday.
