  • Royals' Michael Wacha: Steady campaign continues in win

Wacha (8-9) notched the win Monday against Texas, allowing two runs on nine hits and no walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out three.

The nine hits allowed were Wacha's most since his June 30 start in Seattle, though that didn't stop him from tossing at least five innings while surrendering two runs or fewer in his seventh straight outing. The veteran right-hander continues to put together a steady campaign for the Royals, as he's given up greater than three runs on just five occasions among 25 appearances. Wacha owns a solid 3.34 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 104:37 K:BB across 142.2 frames, though a tough test against the first-place Tigers is on tap for this weekend.

  • Logan Gilbert SP | SEA

Mariners' Logan Gilbert: Clobbered in loss

Gilbert (3-5) took the loss Monday at Philadelphia, allowing six runs on nine hits and no walks over two innings. He struck out one.

The Seattle right-hander looked like a shell of the pitcher who entered this contest with a 3.31 ERA across 89.2 frames. Gilbert allowed five or more runs for the first time in 18 starts this season, as he equaled the shortest outing of his career -- previously done when he pitched two innings June 26, 2021. The Phillies tallied all six of their runs, including two homers, in the second to chase Gilbert after 65 pitches. He now sports a 3.83 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 125:23 K:BB across 91.2 total innings. Gilbert will look to bounce back in his next start, which is currently scheduled to come at home against the Athletics this weekend.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | TOR

Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Fans four in no-decision

Gausman allowed two runs on five hits and two walks over five innings while not factoring into the decision in Monday's 5-2 loss at Pittsburgh. He struck out four.

The veteran right-hander limited the damage in this 96-pitch performance, as he allowed just one extra-base hit -- a Spencer Horwitz double in the third. Despite a five-run blowup against Kansas City on Aug. 1, Gausman has been a dependable starter since the All-Star break, producing a 2.61 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 38:8 K:BB across 38 frames. In 147.2 total innings, the 34-year-old has pitched to a 3.78 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 142:42 K:BB while yielding 19 homers. He is currently scheduled to make his next start at Miami this weekend.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: Roughed up by Tigers

Arrighetti (1-4) coughed up five runs on seven hits and four walks over five innings to take the loss Monday at Detroit. He struck out five.

The Houston right-hander was pitching well through the first four frames, allowing one run on a solo homer by Wenceel Perez in the fourth. Then the floodgates opened in the fifth, as Arrighetti conceded four runs on four hits and two walks, capped by a three-run blast by Riley Greene. The 25-year-old has struggled since his return from a thumb injury Aug. 6, pitching to an unsightly 7.90 ERA, 2.12 WHIP and 13:10 K:BB over 13.2 innings. Arrighetti will look to bounce back in his next start, which currently lines up to be at Baltimore this weekend.

  • Rays' Santiago Suarez: Cleared for return

Suarez (triceps/shoulder) was activated from the 7-day injured list Saturday.

Suarez has missed significant time while recovering from right triceps and shoulder tightness. He made his first appearance for High-A Bowling Green on Sunday since May 7, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out five across three innings.

  • Jack Flaherty SP | DET

Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Twirls gem vs. Houston

Flaherty (7-12) earned the win Monday against the Astros, throwing seven scoreless innings while allowing three hits and one walk with seven strikeouts.

This performance was a welcome sight for Flaherty, who entered the contest on the heels of back-to-back outings allowing five earned runs. The Detroit right-hander notched his 10th quality start of the season, as he threw 60 of his 90 total pitches for strikes. The 29-year-old lowered his season ERA from 4.76 to 4.51 across 131.2 total frames to go with a 1.29 WHIP and 162:50 K:BB. Flaherty will look to continue his good form when he next takes the mound at home against Kansas City this weekend.

  • Cole Ragans RP | KC

Royals' Cole Ragans: Ramps up bullpen work

Ragans (shoulder) threw a 35-pitch bullpen session Monday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Ragans has been steadily building up his pitch count in bullpen sessions and had more velocity on his fastballs and more offspeed pitches on display Monday. The 27-year-old southpaw continues to recover from a left rotator cuff strain that initially landed him on the 15-day injured list in mid-June before he was transferred to the 60-day IL on July 8. Ragans' next step in his throwing program would be throwing to live hitters, and if all goes well, he would be cleared to embark on a rehab assignment, making an early September return to the majors a possibility.

  • Astros' Cristian Javier: Expected to be fine for next start

Javier (illness) is expected to be fine for his next scheduled start this weekend in Baltimore, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Javier had to depart Sunday's start versus the Orioles after three innings due to illness and then stayed behind in Houston rather than travel with the team to Detroit. However, Javier now appears recovered from the illness and is slated to rejoin the club at some point Monday. It's not yet clear which day Javier will start, but that should be revealed after he meets with manager Joe Espada.

  • Tyler Wells SP | BAL

Orioles' Tyler Wells: Needs two more rehab starts

Wells (elbow) is slated to make two more rehab starts before returning from the 60-day injured list, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Making his way back from June 17, 2024 UCL revision and internal brace augmentation surgery, Wells permitted three runs with five strikeouts over five innings in the fourth start of his rehab assignment this past Friday with Triple-A Norfolk. He'll require two more outings in the minors before rejoining the big club, although it's not yet clear whether he'll be part of the Baltimore rotation or work out of the bullpen once he's activated.

  • Kyle Bradish SP | BAL

Orioles' Kyle Bradish: Slated for season debut next week

Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said Monday that he expects Bradish (elbow) to return from the 60-day injured list and make his season debut Aug. 25, 26 or 27 against the Red Sox, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

Working his way back from June 2024 Tommy John surgery, Bradish struck out nine across five scoreless frames in his most recent rehab outing with Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday. Bradish is slated to make one more rehab start before making his long-awaited return to the Orioles rotation.
