Gilbert (5-3) allowed three runs on four hits and four walks in five innings, striking out six and taking the loss in Wednesday's 4-3 defeat against the Rays.

The rookie required 86 pitches to get through five frames, which was pretty good considering the four free passes. Gilbert has certainly cooled down after his dominant stretch in early July, as he's allowed 10 earned runs in his last 13.1 innings. Regardless, the righty has shown tremendous promise in his debut season, posting a 4.14 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 67.1 innings. Gilbert is scheduled to make his next start Tuesday against the Rangers.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirmed that Gil will be recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start Sunday against the Mariners, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.

After throwing six shutout innings in his MLB debut Tuesday against the Orioles, Gil was optioned to Triple-A. Because he joined the roster as a replacement for a player placed on the COVID-19 injured list (Gerrit Cole), the rookie right-hander will be eligible to return to the Yankees before the usual 10-day minimum. If Gil can deliver another serviceable outing Sunday, he could have some staying power in a banged-up Yankees rotation that remains without Cole, Jordan Montgomery (COVID-19), Domingo German (shoulder), Corey Kluber (shoulder), Luis Severino (groin/elbow) and Michael King (finger).

Glasnow underwent successful Tommy John surgery Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Glasnow was initially hoping that he'd be able to return in 2021 after he suffered a partial UCL tear in mid-June, but he'll likely be sidelined until 2023 following Wednesday's procedure. Prior to his injury, the 27-year-old put up a 2.66 ERA and 0.93 WHIP in 88 innings across 14 starts.

Keller (lower back) is slated to start Saturday's game against the Cardinals, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

During his most recent start last weekend versus the Blue Jays, Keller gave up three runs over three innings before being pulled due to lower-back tightness. His early exit looks to have been precautionary, as he came out of his between-starts bullpen session without issue. Keller will carry a 7-10 record, 5.64 ERA and 1.68 WHIP into Saturday's outing.

The Rangers placed Dunning on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with an ankle impingement, Chris Halicke of SI.com reports.

Manager Chris Woodward indicated the injury had been bothering Dunning for "a few" starts, including his most recent one Monday against the Angels. In spite of the injury, Dunning limited the Halos to only one run over five innings en route to collecting his fifth win of the season. Woodward said that he isn't worried about Dunning, and the expectation is that the 26-year-old right-hander will only miss one turn through the rotation. Dunning is eligible to return from the IL on Aug. 13.

The Yankees are expected to call up Gil from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to make a second turn through the rotation Sunday versus the Mariners, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.

Summoned from Triple-A on Tuesday in response to Gerrit Cole's (illness) move to the COVID-19 injured list, Gil turned in a memorable first MLB start, holding the Orioles scoreless while striking out six over six innings en route to picking up the win. Though the Yankees optioned him following the start, the transaction appears to be mostly for roster-management purposes. Under normal circumstances, Gil would have to remain in the minors for 10 days before being eligible to rejoin the Yankees, but because he was a replacement for a player on the COVID-19 IL, he can return to the 26-man active roster at any point.

Singer (shoulder) is set to make his second rehab start Wednesday, Omaha Storm Chasers announcer Jake Eisenberg reports.

Singer had a rough outing versus Triple-A Toledo last week, giving up four runs on five hits and a walk in 1.1 innings. He'll look for better results Wednesday, and if all goes well, he could be activated from the 10-day injured list next week.

Wilcox has been sidelined since June 27 with an elbow strain, J.J. Cooper of Baseball America reports.

Given the nature of the injury, it seems highly unlikely we see Wilcox pitching in games again this year. If he can avoid surgery, he could be ready for spring training in 2022. It's a shame, because Wilcox got off to an excellent start to his pro career, logging a 2.03 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 52 strikeouts in 44.1 innings (10 starts) with Low-A Charleston. He turned 22 in July, so he will be a bit behind schedule when he does return to game action.

Goss has missed the entire season due to a shoulder impingement, J.J. Cooper of Baseball America reports.

He is throwing bullpen sessions and hopes to get back on the mound prior to the end of the season. Fortunately, Goss doesn't turn 21 until December, so the missed time doesn't put him too far behind schedule. He has a high ceiling and was reportedly quite impressive during 2020 fall instructs, so he could be a bounce-back candidate in 2022.

McCullers (9-2) allowed four hits and three walks while striking out nine over 6.2 scoreless innings to earn the win over the Dodgers on Tuesday.

In allowing just four singles, McCullers quieted Los Angeles' bats and the rancorous Dodger Stadium fans hellbent on voicing their displeasure at the Astros' 2017 World Series victory over the locals. He left with a 1-0 lead and then was picked up by the bullpen and Yordan Alvarez's two-run home run in the eighth inning. McCullers has won six of his last eight starts, posting a 3.17 ERA with 62 strikeouts over 48.1 innings. He's next projected to pitch Sunday against the Twins.
