Mize allowed two earned runs across 5.1 innings and did not factor into the decision in Friday's 4-3 loss to the White Sox. He gave up just one hit and two walks, while striking out five.

This was the best start of Mize's young career, as he pitched into the sixth inning for the first time in his debut season. The 23-year-old was also impressive in allowing just a single hit to a strong Chicago lineup. Mize has shown good stuff since arriving in the majors, but as is the case with many young pitchers, consistency and lasting longer into games have been issues. He'll look to build some momentum and pitch well again in his next start, which is scheduled for Thursday against Cleveland.

Cole (5-3) scattered two hits and a walk over seven shutout innings Friday to pick up the win in the first game of a doubleheader against the Orioles. He struck out nine.

The O's never even got a runner into scoring position against the right-hander, and he threw 74 of his 114 pitches for strikes en route to his second shutout of the season -- although neither one was a traditional nine-inning effort. Cole will take a 3.20 ERA and 79:15 K:BB through 59 innings into his next outing Wednesday, at home against the Blue Jays.

Cobb (1-4) took the loss in the first game of Friday's doubleheader against the Yankees, coughing up five runs on seven hits -- including three home runs -- and a walk over four innings. He struck out three.

The right-hander's first start since Aug. 29 went poorly to say the least, as the Yankees took Cobb deep twice in the first inning before he was able to record an out. It's the first time in eight outings he's served up multiple homers, and the rough return to action pushed his ERA above 5.00 for the first time this season.

Rodon (shoulder) is scheduled to throw off a mound Monday, Scot Gregor of the Chicago Daily Herald reports.

The 27-year-old was scheduled to throw a 60-pitch bullpen session last week, but those plans were scrapped after he began experiencing shoulder discomfort. Rodon may not have enough time to get stretched out to a starter's workload by the end of the season, but the White Sox could shift him to the bullpen to expedite his return.

Eovaldi (calf) will be activated off the 10-day injured list to start Saturday at Tampa Bay, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

The veteran right-hander will end up missing just under two weeks with the mild calf strain. Eovaldi had his best start of the season in his previous outing with seven one-run innings, and he'll look to pick up where he left off against the Rays.

Manager Aaron Boone said Thursday it would be "challenging" for Paxton (forearm) to return this season, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

The veteran southpaw was shut down from throwing after experiencing some soreness after his throwing session Wednesday, so it's not much of a surprise to hear a pessimistic outlook from Boone. Even if Paxton is able to return in 2020, he's unlikely to be stretched out for more than a couple innings with just over two weeks remaining in the regular season.

Stripling (3-3) was the pitcher of record in Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Yankees, tossing 3.1 innings and giving up three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two.

Stripling has been dealt losses in both of his first two appearances with Toronto, as he previously served up three runs over 4.1 innings while filling a traditional starting role in his team debut Sept. 4 versus the Red Sox. Manager Charlie Montoyo treated Wednesday's contest as a piggyback outing, as Stripling essentially split the innings with starter Tanner Roark, who was pulled after four frames (68 pitches). With the Blue Jays set to play six games in five days next week, Stripling could re-enter the rotation, but the poor form he's shown this season likely means he'll be bound for the bullpen once Montoyo is able to reduce his starting staff to five men. Over 41.1 innings between the Dodgers and Blue Jays, Stripling has posted a 5.88 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and a 7.2 K/9 while giving up 12 home runs.

Cobb (undisclosed) was activated from the injured list to start Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader against the Yankees.

The 32-year-old is officially serving as the 29th man for the twin bill, but Baltimore will simply demote another player after the second game. Cobb had a 4.33 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 24:12 K:BB through 35.1 innings before missing the past week with the unspecified issue.

Gibson (1-5) took the loss in Thursday's game against the Angels, allowing five runs on 10 hits and three walks across 5.2 innings. He fanned three.

Gibson's outing got off to a rough start with the right-hander allowing a three-run homer to Jared Walsh in the first. Mike Trout added a solo shot in the fifth before Andrelton Simmons chased the 32-year-old with a sixth-inning RBI double. Gibson will look to pick up his first win since Aug. 15 when he takes the ball Tuesday in Houston.

Bundy (5-2) picked up the win Thursday against the Rangers, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk across 7.1 innings. He struck out 12.

Bundy allowed a run in the first, but did not allow Texas to score again until the eighth. The right-hander's 12 strikeouts set a season high. Bundy has allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his last four outings and will take a strong 2.48 ERA into his start against Arizona on Wednesday.
