Cole (4-3) allowed five runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out 10 in Saturday's loss to the Orioles.

Cole struck out eight of the first nine batters he faced. His second turn through the order wasn't as good, and a Thairo Estrada error in the sixth would ultimately lead to four extra runs charged to Cole. He's now lost three straight starts. The right-hander has a 3.63 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 70 strikeouts through 52 innings this season. Cole will look to stop his skid Thursday in a rematch with the Orioles.

Skubal pitched six innings of one-run ball but did not factor into the decision in Saturday's loss to the Twins. He allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out six.

Skubal has shown improvement in each one of his four MLB starts. Over his past two outings, the lefty has limited a strong Minnesota lineup to three runs across 11 innings, and Saturday marked his first quality start as a big leaguer. The six strikeouts were also a new career best for Skubal. The 23-year-old will look to build on this positive outing his next time out, which is slated to come during a doubleheader Thursday against the Cardinals.

McClanahan suffered a left knee hyperextension covering first base in a game at the Rays' alternate site and will miss about two weeks, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

McClanahan does not appear to be dealing with any sort of long-term issue, but the injury could cost him any shot to make his big-league debut before this season comes to a close.

Kluber (shoulder) was officially ruled out for the season Saturday, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports.

Unless he re-signs as a free agent this offseason, Kluber's Rangers career will have lasted all of one inning. He only ever had an outside chance to return very late this year, but that chance was snuffed out Saturday. Kluber will turn 35 early in the 2021 campaign and will enter next season having made a total of just eight starts over the last two years.

Rodon (shoulder) was experiencing discomfort Friday and didn't throw his scheduled 60-pitch bullpen, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Rodon has been ramping up his workload and appeared to be near a return, but his timetable became murkier following his recent setback. The team will monitor his status in the coming days to determine when he can return to the mound.

Urquidy (undisclosed) was activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Saturday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Urquidy has been sidelined since the beginning of the season, but he'll make his season debut against the Angels during Saturday's nightcap. The right-hander hopes to be able to last between 50 and 60 pitches against Los Angeles.

Schmidt pitched 1.1 relief innings in the second game of Friday's doubleheader against the Orioles, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out one. He did not factor in the decision.

Schmidt was called upon to protect a one-run lead with a pair of runners on base and two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Things did not go well for the rookie as he gave up three straight hits and allowed four runs to cross the plate -- two of which were charged to starter Deivi Garcia -- before recording the first out of his career. Schmidt returned to the mound in the sixth frame and fared better, holding Baltimore scoreless in spite of a walk and a hit batsman. It remains to be seen how the Yankees will deploy their top pitching prospect moving forward -- he was primarily a starter in the minors, coming out of the bullpen for only two of 27 appearances.

Luzardo (2-2) was tagged with the loss Friday against the Padres. He allowed four runs on six hits while fanning four across 4.2 innings.

Luzardo started this game on 10 days' rest, and the Peru native didn't have a good performance. He's now allowed three or more earned runs in three of his last four starts. Luzardo will try to turn things around in his next start, scheduled for Sept. 9 at home against the Astros.

Stripling (3-2) took the loss in the second game of Friday's doubleheader against the Red Sox, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out four.

The right-hander did manage to keep the ball in the yard in his Blue Jays debut, which counts as progress after he served up multiple long balls in each of his last four appearances as a Dodger, but otherwise it was another erratic performance for Stripling. It's not yet clear if he'll remain in the rotation for Toronto, or if another trade deadline acquisition, Robbie Ray, will get a turn instead.

McCullers labored during his pre-game warmups Friday leading to his shortest start of the season, David Barron of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Houston pitching coach Brent Strom said McCullers was unable to get his velocity up before departing Friday's game after 18 pitches. The right-hander, who is coming back from Tommy John elbow surgery, talked with other pitchers who underwent the procedure. They reassured him that "these things come and they pop up and your body adjusts and then they're gone and you don't have to worry about them anymore." The Astros are treating this as a "dead arm" phase and expect McCullers to pitch next Wednesday against Oakland. Given Friday's low pitch count, McCullers could have his next outing pushed up a day, which means could be available to pitch in Tuesday's doubleheader.
