Schmidt will build up to five innings Wednesday at the Yankees' alternate site, Brendan Kuty of NJ.com reports.

We know that he remains an option to join the big-league rotation sometime this summer, and the knowledge that he will throw five innings Wednesday would seemingly rule him out as an option to replace J.A. Happ in the rotation this weekend. He lines up to potentially step into the big-league rotation as early as Monday or Saturday of next week. Those are Jordan Montgomery's scheduled starts, so if Montgomery has another rough outing Tuesday against the Braves, perhaps it would be he whom Schmidt replaces in the rotation and not Happ.

Teheran (0-1) didn't factor into the decision in Monday's contest between the Angels and the Athletics. He gave up five runs on five hits -- including two home runs -- and two walks while fanning one in just two innings.

Teheran has been struggling so far, giving up seven earned runs in just 4.2 innings across his first two outings of the campaign. He will try to bounce back in his next scheduled start, although it won't be an easy matchup since he will face the Dodgers at home Aug. 16.

Gibson (0-2) took the loss versus the Mariners on Monday, allowing four runs on nine hits and a walk in 4.1 innings. He struck out two.

Gibson did relatively well until the fifth inning, when he allowed a three-run go-ahead blast to Kyle Lewis. The Rangers were unable to retake the lead, and Gibson was on the hook for his second loss. He's got a 4.11 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 15:6 K:BB across 15.1 innings this season. The right-hander will make his next start Sunday in Colorado.

Dunn (1-1) earned the win Monday versus the Rangers, allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out two.

Dunn was a bit generous with baserunners, but the Rangers didn't capitalize on most of their opportunities. The 24-year-old has pitched to a 4.85 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and eight strikeouts in 13 innings across three starts this year. With the Mariners running a six-man rotation at the moment, Dunn isn't expected to make his next start until Aug. 17 versus the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

McCullers (2-1) pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five in a win versus the Giants on Monday.

McCullers had his best start of the year, carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning before Donovan Solano broke it up with a double. McCullers also hit a batter in the contest. The righty dropped his ERA to 6.10 with a 1.26 WHIP and 16 strikeouts in 20.2 innings with the sparkling effort Monday. McCullers is expected to face the Mariners at home Sunday in his next start.

Keuchel (2-2) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks over six innings in a loss to the Tigers on Monday. He struck out four.

The lefty groundballer gave up a homer for just the second time this season. He still managed to spin a quality start, his second in a row. Keuchel's eight-strikeout game against Milwaukee last week was an anomaly, though the 2015 AL Cy Young winner is showing that he can still be an asset in fantasy leagues despite lacking traditional dominance. We'll see if he makes his scheduled start this weekend against the Cardinals.

The Indians announced Monday that Clevinger will begin a mandatory quarantine process after he violated team protocols during Cleveland's recent road trip in Chicago over the weekend,, Nick Camino of WKYC Channel 3 Cleveland reports.

Adam Plutko will now start in place of Clevinger against the Cubs on Tuesday, denying the Tribe's ace of a potential two-start week. While he's in quarantine, Clevinger will be need to pass subsequent COVID-19 testing before being cleared to rejoin the team. He could make it back for the Indians' road series in Detroit over the weekend, but it's far from a lock at this point that he'll be available to make a start during the three-game set.

Suarez (undisclosed) was reinstated from the injured list and optioned to the Angels' alternate training site Monday.

Suarez missed the start of the season for undisclosed reasons. While he's evidently back to full health, the Angels will not be calling on his services at the big-league level just yet. The lefty struggled to the tune of a 7.11 ERA in his 19 appearances (15 starts) with Anaheim last season and is likely best suited for long relief. Jose Rodriguez was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

General manager James Click said Monday that Verlander (forearm) still hasn't resumed throwing, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.

Verlander isn't progressing as quickly as he'd like to while he deals with a forearm strain, and the team is still waiting on the inflammation in his forearm to subside before it builds him back up. While the 37-year-old expressed optimism about his status when the injury first surfaced, whether he'll be ready to take the mound at some point in 2020 remains to be seen.

Montgomery will start Tuesday's game against the Braves, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Due to a pair of off days for the Yankees this week, Montgomery wasn't expected to start again until the weekend, but he'll be slotted in for the team's series opener against Atlanta on normal rest. The southpaw will attempt to bounce back after he allowed five runs over four innings in his last start. J.A. Happ was initially scheduled to start Tuesday, and it's unclear whether he'll move to Montgomery's old spot in the rotation or if he'll lose his job as a starter due to several rough performances to begin the year.
