  • White Sox's Jordan Stephens: Recovering from fractured hand

Triple-A Charlotte placed Stephens on its 7-day injured list May 10 with a fractured left (non-throwing) hand, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Stephens was added to the 40-man roster over the winter with the expectation that he would eventually make his way to the big leagues as a potential depth starter, but the hand injury will delay any potential promotion. Even before breaking his hand, the 26-year-old was enduring a tough season in the International League. Over his six starts spanning 31.1 innings, Stephens had posted a 9.48 ERA and 1.93 WHIP while striking out 23.

  • Marcus Stroman SP | NYY

Blue Jays' Marcus Stroman: Fires quality start in no-decision

Stroman didn't factor into the decision in Thursday's loss to the White Sox, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and a walk over six innings while striking out six.

The right-hander now has six quality starts in 10 trips to the mound, a much more impressive number than his 1-6 record would indicate. Stroman will take a 2.95 ERA and 51:19 K:BB through 58 innings into his next outing Tuesday, at home against the Red Sox.

  • Jesus Luzardo SP | PHI

Athletics' Jesus Luzardo: Late-May farm debut projected

Luzardo (shoulder), who has been throwing from 120 feet and completed a bullpen session earlier this week, is expected to begin pitching in minor-league games by the end of May, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

The promising prospect has progressively been building up his workload since being shut down with a shoulder strain in March. Luzardo acquitted himself so impressively this past spring that it led to rumblings about a possible spot on the season-opening rotation, but his injury short-circuited any chance of that unfolding. He'll begin the season at Triple-A Las Vegas after generating a 7.31 ERA and 2.00 WHIP across 16 innings at the Athletics' former Nashville affiliate last season, his first exposure to hitters at that level.

  • Lance Lynn SP | STL

Rangers' Lance Lynn: Goes seven strong

Lynn (5-3) allowed one earned run on six hits and a walk while striking out five across seven innings to earn the win Thursday against the Royals.

Lynn allowed a leadoff baserunner to score in the first inning but shut down the Royals from there to earn his fifth win. While his 4.94 ERA and 1.43 WHIP aren't particularly strong, Lynn has been able to pitch deep into games and has been fairly effective, recording five quality starts in his nine outings this season. He'll look to turn in another strong start in his next effort, currently scheduled for Tuesday against Seattle.

  • Tigers' Spencer Turnbull: Short outing

Turnbull (2-3) allowed six runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out six across four innings to take the loss Thursday against the Athletics.

Turnbull coughed up a grand slam in the third inning after allowing four of the first seven batters he faced to reach base. However, the frame was also doomed by a throwing error by Niko Goodrum and a wild pitch by Turnbull that also scored a run. More positively, he continues to show the ability to miss bats, as even in this poor outing he managed 13 swinging strikes on 85 total pitches. He'll look to bounce back in his next start, currently scheduled for Tuesday against Miami.

  • Chris Bassitt SP | BAL

Athletics' Chris Bassitt: Eight strong innings

Bassitt (2-1) allowed four hits and two walks while striking out seven across eight shutout innings to earn the win Thursday against the Tigers.

Bassitt was given a six-run lead in the third inning but ultimately didn't need it while managing to hold the Tigers to just one extra-base hit across his eight innings of work. He stayed out of trouble by recording 16 of his 24 outs via either groundball or strikeout. While he went just five innings in two of his first three outings, he has combined to work 15.2 innings across his last two starts, allowing just three earned runs while striking out 16. He'll look to keep the strong results going in his next start, currently scheduled for Tuesday at Cleveland.

  • Martin Perez SP | ATL

Twins' Martin Perez: Cleared to start Friday

The Twins list Perez (foot) as their probable starter for Friday's game against the Mariners, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

The news confirms that the bruised left foot Perez sustained in his outing against Detroit last weekend won't disrupt his normal regimen of four days of rest between starts. With a 2.13 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and four wins over his last six turns, Perez has made the case for warranting a roster spot in most shallow formats.

  • Yonny Chirinos SP | MIA

Rays' Yonny Chirinos: Tabbed as bulk reliever Friday

Chirinos will serve as the primary pitcher for Friday's game against the Yankees, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Chirinos will follow opener Ryne Stanek and figures to cover the bulk of innings in Friday's series opener against New York. In eight appearances this season (four starts), the right-hander owns a 3.61 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 31:8 K:BB in 42.1 innings.

  • Indians' Carlos Carrasco: Next start coming Monday

Carrasco will make his next start Monday against the Athletics, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander was originally lined up for a two-start week, but instead Adam Plutko will join the rotation Saturday while Carrasco gets an extra day of rest before getting the ball for Monday's series opener against Oakland. Carrasco has been stellar through three starts this month, compiling a 1.86 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 21:0 K:BB in 19.2 innings.

  • Shane Bieber SP | TOR

Indians' Shane Bieber: Start moved to Sunday

Bieber will make his next start Sunday against the Orioles, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Adam Plutko will join the rotation Saturday, allowing Bieber to make his next start on an extra day of rest. The 23-year-old is looking to bounce back after allowing five runs on seven hits across 6.1 innings in a loss to the White Sox his last time out. Bieber owns a 3.81 ERA and 9.8 K/9 through eight starts this season.
