  • Martin Perez SP | ATL

Rangers' Martin Perez: Stuck with 11th defeat

Perez (12-11) took the loss against Seattle on Wednesday after giving up three runs on seven hits -- including two homers -- and three walks across 5.1 innings.

After giving up just one long ball in his past five outings and pitching to a 2.45 ERA over his last four, Perez hit a predictable spate of regression. His control's improved some this year, but it's still rather sporadic, and Perez's low-strikeout ways have not been a boon for either the Rangers or fantasy owners. He'll get a chance at revenge against the Mariners next Tuesday.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Mariners' James Paxton: Puts in final tune-up before Friday start

Paxton (pectoral) threw 10 pitches off the bullpen mound in Arlington on Wednesday in anticipation of his Friday start against the Astros, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

This was the 28-year-old southpaw's final step before making his long-awaited return from the disabled list Friday against the Astros. Paxton will have missed just over a month when he finally returns, having last pitched on Aug. 10 against the Angels.

  • Marcus Stroman SP | NYY

Blue Jays' Marcus Stroman: Handed tough loss by O's

Stroman (11-8) took the loss Wednesday against Baltimore after allowing two unearned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven over six innings.

Two unearned runs in the first inning led to a tough loss for Stroman, who hasn't found the win column in his last five starts. This marks the second time this season that he's been tagged with a loss despite not giving up an earned run. He worked around a bit of trouble by doing what he does best -- inducing double plays -- and now leads MLB pitchers with 31 groundball double plays on the season. In 30 starts this year, Stroman owns a solid 3.08 ERA but a less-than-stellar 1.31 WHIP over 184.1 innings. The right-hander will look to get on track and snag his first win since mid-August when he toes the rubber for Tuesday's home game against Kansas City.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Orioles' Kevin Gausman: Beats Blue Jays behind seven strong frames

Gausman (11-10) pitched seven quality innings and picked up the victory, allowing one run on six hits and one walk while striking out six Blue Jays en route to Wednesday's win.

The right-hander rebounded nicely from his last outing, a disaster against the Yankees in which he lasted just three innings. Gausman continues to offer fantasy owners a roller-coaster ride, but he's now managed three quality starts in his last four games. He'll take a 4.83 ERA and 1.56 WHIP into his next start Monday against a dangerous Red Sox lineup.

  • Mike Clevinger RP | PIT

Indians' Mike Clevinger: Leads Tribe to record-breaking win

Clevinger (10-5) pitched 5.2 innings Wednesday and picked up the win, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out six Tigers to help Cleveland set a new American League record with 21 straight wins.

The right-hander has started five contests during the Tribe's AL record-breaking winning streak of 21 games. Clevinger has won a career-high four straight starts while allowing just one earned run over 23.2 innings, and managing a nifty 28:8 K:BB during that stretch. He'll go for five in a row in Tuesday's road start against the Angels.

  • White Sox's Lucas Giolito: Bounces back with quality start

Giolito allowed one run on four hits and three walks in 6.1 innings but didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Royals. He struck out three batters.

It was a nice bounce-back start for Giolito, who lasted just 5.1 innings and allowed five runs (three earned) in his previous outing. The young right-hander now boasts an impressive 2.56 ERA and 0.95 WHIP through his first five starts with the White Sox, a stretch over which he's also collected three quality starts and a pair of wins. While he hasn't faced the league's most impressive offenses, the 23-year-old has shown flashes of why he was viewed as one of the top pitching prospects before struggling last season. He'll face his toughest test yet in his next start, which is scheduled for Tuesday against the Astros.

  • Twins' Adalberto Mejia: Activated from DL, starting Saturday

Mejia (biceps) was activated from the 10-day disabled list Wednesday. He is scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Blue Jays.

Mejia is ready to rejoin the Twins' rotation after spending a little more than a month on the shelf with a left biceps strain. The 24-year-old southpaw made three rehab starts between Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Rochester, allowing just one run over 13 innings during those starts. Mejia, who is set to make his first start since Aug. 8, compiled a 4.47 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 86.2 innings prior to his injury.

  • Twins' Adalberto Mejia: Tabbed with Saturday's start

Mejia (biceps) is scheduled to start Saturday against the Blue Jays, LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Mejia made three rehab starts between Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Rochester, tossing 13 innings and allowing just one run on nine hits and three walks. He'll look to improve his 4.47 ERA and 1.57 WHIP upon his return.

  • Astros' Lance McCullers: Dealing with arm fatigue

McCullers was scratched from his scheduled start Wednesday due to arm fatigue, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Mike Fiers is slated to start the second game of the series in place of McCullers, who reported fatigue after playing catch Tuesday. Manager A.J. Hinch said he's not overly concerned about the issue, but the team will be conservative with the righty with the start of the postseason mere weeks away. McCullers just returned from a back injury last week after spending more than a month on the DL.

  • Yankees' Jordan Montgomery: In line for Saturday's start

Montgomery is listed as the starter for Saturday's contest against the Orioles, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Montgomery's previous outing against the Rangers on Sunday lasted just 3.1 innings, as the left-hander allowing three runs on three hits and four walks while striking out four opposing batters. Although the 24-year-old doesn't seem to have a fleshed-out role within the New York rotation at the moment, this will mark his fourth start since Aug. 30, and he could potentially get a couple more nods throughout the rest of the regular season if manager Joe Girardi wants to keep the other members of the staff fresh. During his last three starts, Montgomery hasn't pitched beyond the fifth inning, and has compiled a 6.75 ERA and 1.83 WHIP during that span.
