  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

White Sox's Carlos Rodon: Strikes out 11 in loss to Cubs

Rodon (1-4) allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks across four innings in Tuesday's loss to the Cubs. He struck out 11.

Rodon struggled early in this one, allowing a three-run home run to Willson Contreras in the first before Ben Zobrist tacked on an RBI double in the second. Though he put men on base with regularity, the lefty also had his strikeout stuff working in this one and tied a career high in punchouts despite leaving after 98 pitches over four frames. Rodon has struggled to the tune of a 6.29 ERA and 1.77 WHIP over 24.3 innings since returning from a biceps injury, but his 11.5 K/9 is a silver lining as he looks to return to his best form. He will next take on the Indians on Sunday.

  • Alex Meyer SP | LAA

Angels' Alex Meyer: MRI results encouraging

An MRI on Meyer's shoulder yielded promising results, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

The exact findings haven't been revealed, but the team is apparently fairly confident that Meyer will be able to return to the rotation soon. However, it is good to be somewhat cautious in this instance given his history of shoulder injuries, so expectations should be tempered until a firm timetable for his return is released.

  • Chris Bassitt SP | BAL

Athletics' Chris Bassitt: Heads to Triple-A following activation

Bassitt (elbow) was activated from the 60-day disabled list and optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday.

Although he was deemed healthy enough to return from the disabled list, the Athletics thought it would be good to get him some more work in the minor leagues before returning to Oakland. To clear space for him on the 40-man roster, Bobby Wahl (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

  • Kyle Gibson SP | BAL

Twins' Kyle Gibson: Optioned to Triple-A

Gibson was optioned to Triple-A Rochester following Monday's game, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

The Twins recently upgraded at the back end by acquiring Jaime Garcia from Atlanta, and Gibson is the odd man out. Bartolo Colon will remain in the rotation. Gibson was coming off one of his best starts of the season -- he tossed 7.1 innings of three-run ball in a win over Detroit on Saturday -- but he's struggled mightily throughout most of the year with a 6.08 ERA (5.52 FIP) over 94.2 frames.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Rangers' Yu Darvish: Could be dealt prior to deadline

The Rangers informed prospective suitors Monday that the team is willing to trade Darvish prior to the July 31 deadline for the "right deal," Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports.

The Rangers' fleeting playoff hopes received a boost with a three-game series sweep of the Rays over the weekend, but with the team still 3.5 games back of the second wild-card spot and facing competition from a number of clubs, Texas could decide to sell off some pieces in the next week. With few other high-impact arms believed to be available at the deadline, the Rangers could generate plenty of interest if they're committed to dealing Darvish, who struck out a season-high 12 batters his last time out Friday. Darvish will be an unrestricted free agent this winter, but even as a rental, his status as a top-of-the-rotation arm might be enticing enough for teams to offer the Rangers a top prospect in return. Darvish is still in line to start Wednesday against the Marlins in what could be his final outing in a Rangers uniform.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Astros' Joe Musgrove: Provides long relief in rain-delayed win

Musgrove (5-8) allowed two hits and struck out three over three scoreless relief innings in Monday's 13-4 win over the Phillies.

A two-hour rain delay ended starter Brad Peacock's night after just three innings, so Musgrove, in his new role out of the bullpen, got the Astros through innings four through six. During those three innings, Houston scored seven times, making it a comfortable win. This will be Musgrove's role going forward.

  • Blake Snell SP | LAD

Rays' Blake Snell: Still seeking first win

Snell (0-6) allowed three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four batters through seven innings during Monday's loss to Baltimore.

Snell has held his own through three starts since being recalled from Triple-A Durham with just six runs allowed and 15 strikeouts through 16 innings. While he still sports an underwhelming 4.86 ERA and 1.56 WHIP for the year, the lefty owns oodles of upside and the potential to reward down the fantasy stretch drive. Snell projects to make his next start on the road against the Yankees.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Orioles' Kevin Gausman: Evens record at 7-7

Gausman (7-7) pitched six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts through six innings during Monday's win over Tampa Bay.

Gausam's up-and-down season continues, as he's now won four of his past eight outings with just a single run surrendered and 29 strikeouts over 24.1 innings during the wins. Unfortunately, he's allowed 21 runs in the other four outings. As a result, it's extremely difficult to trust Gausman in the majority of fantasy settings. He lines up for a potentially daunting matchup against the Rangers at Globe Life Park in Arlington next.

  • Tigers' Justin Verlander: Fans nine through seven in no-decision

Verlander allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out nine batters through seven innings during Monday's loss to Kansas City. He didn't factor into the decision.

Verlander had allowed three runs or fewer in nine of his previous 10 starts with a respectable 4.18 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 8.5 K/9, and those numbers are inflated by a single tough outing July 2 against Cleveland (seven runs allowed through just 3.1 innings). Verlander's name has been included in plenty of rumors leading into the trade deadline, so there are some potential unknowns ahead, but a relocation to a contender would probably benefit the veteran's fantasy value. Barring a deal, Verlander projects to face the Astros at Comerica Park in his next start.

  • Jason Hammel SP | TEX

Royals' Jason Hammel: Holds Tigers to three runs in no-decision

Hammel allowed three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four batters through 5.2 innings during Monday's win over Detroit. He didn't factor into the decision.

After he posted a solid 3.56 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 7.0 K/9 through his previous nine outings, this was another encouraging outing from Hammel. There is still a little too much start-to-start inconsistency to view him as a set-and-forget asset, but the turnaround has been noteworthy. Hammel lines up for a tough matchup against the Red Sox at Fenway Park in his next start.
