  • Luis Severino SP | ATH

Yankees' Luis Severino: Mows down 11 in win

Severino (1-0) got the win Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings with 11 strikeouts against the Rays.

Severino was in total control all game and actually got better the third time through the Tampa lineup, as he sent down five of his final six outs via the punchout. The 23-year-old now has a sparkling 17:2 K:BB through 12 innings and has shown some of the potential that made the Yankees call him up back in 2015 as a 21-year-old. Inconsistency has plagued the righty in his brief career, though, so he'll try to keep it going without taking a step back next time out Tuesday against the White Sox.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Athletics' Sonny Gray: Extended spring training outing on tap

Gray (back) is scheduled for a three-inning outing in an extended spring training game Monday, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

Thursday marked a major milestone in Gray's recovery from a lat strain as he faced live batters. He's set to stretch out for three innings with a pitch count in the 45-50 range. According to Lee, if Gray is able to get through Monday's outing with no issues, a minor league rehab assignment would be the next step for the staff ace. As it stands, Gray could be eyeing a return in late-April or early-May.

  • Jay Groome SP | SD

Red Sox's Jason Groome: Placed on DL

Groome has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with a latissimus strain, Jen McCaffrey of MassLive.com reports.

Groome left his debut start for Low-A Greenville on Monday in the second inning after allowing nine runs in 1.1 innings.

  • Ricky Nolasco SP | ARI

Angels' Ricky Nolasco: Rangers prove to be too much to handle

Nolasco allowed five runs on five hits through five innings during Thursday's loss to Texas.

The only saving grace from Nolasco were his seven punchouts, but the 34-year-old veteran has now allowed five home runs on the season and sports a 5.40 ERA. There will be a handful of matchups where Nolasco has the potential to provide serviceable fantasy results, but he probably tops out as a streaming option in the majority of seasonal leagues or low-priced flier in daily contests.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Rangers' Yu Darvish: Fans 10 in dominant showing

Darvish allowed just five hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings while striking out 10 batters during Thursday's win over the Angels.

While it was just the first win of the season for Darvish, it hasn't been because of his performance on the mound. The flamethrower now sports a 2.33 ERA with 19 punchouts through 19.1 innings, and he's walked fewer batters in each start. Assuming he stays healthy, the sky's the limit for Darvish.

  • Kyle Haynes SP | NYY

Yankees' Kyle Haynes: Sent to High-A Tampa

Haynes was assigned to High-A Tampa on Thursday.

Haynes spent most of 2016 with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, posting a 4.61 ERA and 4.78 FIP across 18 starts. His assignment to High-A Tampa comes following a stint in extended spring training, explaining why he is yet to make an appearance so far in 2017.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Fans eight batters in no-decision

Rodriguez (0-1) allowed three runs -- two earned -- on four hits and four walks while striking out eight batters over 5.1 innings during Thursday's win over Pittsburgh.

The left-hander needed 33 pitches to get out of the first inning, but settled in after that once he got his changeup working. Rodriguez entered 2017 with 41 career starts over the previous two seasons and showcased plenty of potential, especially in the strikeouts column. However, the 24-year-old lefty is off to a slow start this year with a 5.23 ERA and 1.51 WHIP. The strikeouts are there (13 through 10.1 innings), and Boston should provide plenty of run support, so there is still a lot of upside. You just might want to be selective with the opponents you start Rodriguez against until he strings together a few solid outings.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Athletics' Sonny Gray: Throws successful bullpen sessions Thursday

Gray (back) got through two sets of 15-pitch bullpen sessions without any issues Thursday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Thursday was Gray's third day this week throwing a bullpen session. The fact that he was able to get through all of them without his back flaring up could be sign that he is getting closer to taking the next big step in his recovery and making a rehab start. Oakland will be hoping to have Gray back by late-April, assuming there are no future hiccups in the rest of his rehab.

  • JC Ramirez SP | LAA

Angels' JC Ramirez: Slated to start Friday

Ramirez is listed as the probable starter for Friday's game against the Royals.

Ramirez threw 2.2 innings in relief of Garrett Richards (biceps) last week, and he will effectively assume Richards' spot in the rotation beginning Friday. It will be Ramirez's first career major-league start, and his first start at any level since 2011. The 28-year-old hasn't been particularly sharp early on this season and he's maxed out at 38 pitches in an appearance, so he presumably will not be available for a full starter's workload Friday.

  • Alec Asher SP | MIL

Orioles' Alec Asher: Looks like fifth starter

Asher is leaving Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday to join the Orioles , David Hall of The Virginian-Pilot reports.

This lines up Asher as the favorite to make the Orioles' Saturday start, according to MASN Sports' Roch Kubatko. The No. 5 starter role has not been needed even with Chris Tillman (shoulder) on the disabled list. Though Baltimore may choose Jayson Aquino instead and leave Asher as a backup plan, the latter looks like he's the choice to take the hill during the road matchup with the Blue Jays.
