  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Orioles' Wade Miley: Named Sunday's starter

Miley will start Sunday against the Rays, Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports.

The lefty is on thin ice after another blowup earlier in the week but he will make at least one more start, Sunday opposite Jake Odorizzi. Miley has dropped 11 of his last 13 decisions overall and his ratios have been downright awful since the trade from Seattle (8.41 ERA, 1.87 WHIP).

  • Blake Snell SP | LAD

Rays' Blake Snell: Watches ERA balloon to season high Thursday

Snell was hit hard in a no-decision Thursday versus Baltimore. He pitched 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six.

After being staked to a 3-0 lead after the top of the first, Snell allowed four runs in the bottom of the frame. He settled in a bit, holding the O's scoreless for the next 3.1 innings until he was pulled in the midst of a fifth-inning jam. The rough outing raised Snell's ERA to a season-high 3.87. He'll look to rebound when he makes his next start Thursday against the Yankees.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Chased in third inning Thursday

Rodriguez last just 2.1 innings Thursday night, allowing eight hits and four runs in Boston's 7-5 win over the Yankees. He didn't walk or strike out a batter.

Rodriguez didn't have command within the strike zone Thursday, leaving balls up over the plate that the Yankees didn't miss. Fortunately, Rodriguez avoided taking the loss as the maligned Boston bullpen held New York in check and the Red Sox eventually battled back to walk off with the win after a five-run ninth inning. Rodriguez has had his issues this season, but he's been pretty good since the All-Star break. Entering Thursday's game, the left-hander had a 2.76 ERA in 10 games, a stretch that included two quality starts against the Yankees.

  • Mike Clevinger RP | PIT

Indians' Mike Clevinger: Lasts just four innings again

Clevinger lasted just four innings Thursday against the White Sox, surrendering one run on three hits and one walk while striking out three in a no-decision.

Clevinger has gone exactly four innings in each of his last two starts, and has lasted at least five only three times in eight tries. The rookie's 4.76 ERA makes him a bearable spot-start option for the Indians, but fantasy owners should be able to do better given that he usually doesn't even go deep enough to be eligible for a win. His next appearance should come Wednesday against the Royals.

  • Athletics' Henderson Alvarez: Scheduled to have shoulder surgery

Alvarez will undergo shoulder surgery next week, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

While it's now known that Alvarez will have surgery, details regarding the type of procedure and time spent rehabilitating the injury have yet to be revealed. Alvarez pitched in just four minor league games this season, allowing 16 runs across 22.1 innings.

  • Nathan Eovaldi SP | TEX

Yankees' Nathan Eovaldi: Transferred to 60-day DL

Eovaldi (elbow) was moved to the 60-day disabled list, Chad Jennings of the Lohud Yankees Blog reports.

Eovaldi underwent Tommy John surgery at the latter end of August and isn't expected to return until the 2018 campaign, so moving him to the 60-day DL comes as no surprise. In a corresponding move, Billy Butler was added to the club's roster.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Orioles' Kevin Gausman: Blanks Red Sox in career-high eighth victory

Gausman (8-10) was magnificent Wednesday, breezing through eight innings and holding the Red Sox to four hits while walking one and striking out six in a 1-0 victory.

Only in the seventh inning did Boston put more than one runner on base against Gausman. The righty didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning and tossed a career-high 120 pitches against the red-hot Red Sox to capture his career-high eighth victory of the season. Gausman's five scoreless starts of at least seven innings this year are tied with the Yankees' Masahiro Tanaka for most in the AL. He's pitched well enough to win more games, but has received one or fewer runs of support in 10 of his 27 starts this season.

  • Blake Snell SP | LAD

Rays' Blake Snell: Placing considerable importance on remaining starts

Snell is putting significant importance on his remaining 2016 starts beginning with Thursday's tilt against the Orioles, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. "I only have three starts left and they are all really important to me," he said. "The growth I can gain from three outings is huge, so it's definitely important. I think it's something I need to do, so then in the offseason it allows me to be that much more focused, have more of a positive offseason. I definitely need to finish strong."

The rookie has experienced a recent slide, lasting just 2.2 innings against the Yankees his last time out and no more than 3.2 innings in two other starts over his last four trips to the mound. He also was chased after just 1.2 innings against the Blue Jays on Aug. 10, the outing that seemed to initiate the rough patch he still largely finds himself in. Snell still sports a solid 3.62 ERA and 82 whiffs over his 77 innings, while only surrendering five homers over that span. However, he also has posted an unsightly 1.64 WHIP and issued multiple walks in all but two of his starts. Most of those numbers fall in line with his body of work over his five-plus minor league seasons with the exception of the control problems, with the aforementioned WHIP figure being his highest since High-A ball in 2014. Snell is scheduled to face the Yankees and White Sox in his final two starts after Thursday's matchup against the Orioles.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

White Sox's Carlos Rodon: Snaps winning streak with six-run disaster

Rodon (7-9) gave up six runs on nine hits and three walks over five innings in Wednesday's loss to Cleveland.

The second-year lefty had been on a hot streak, winning four straight and giving up two or fewer runs in six of seven starts, but surprisingly ran afoul of an Indians team against which he'd previously experienced great success. Rodon's made definite strides with his formerly shaky control this year, though, and if he can get enough for that .336 BABIP to come down, he should push his ERA back down into the threes; Wednesday's outing pushed it up to 4.04.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Astros' Joe Musgrove: Fades late, but still beats Rangers

Musgrove (3-4) struck out seven while allowing three runs on five hits and two walks over 6.1 innings in Wednesday's win over Texas.

The rookie really had the powerful Texas offense off balance until Nomar Mazara got him for a two-run homer in the top of the seventh. That hurt Musgrove's final line, but he still delivered his second straight quality start -- hard to complain after he didn't even finish six frames in a four-start streak prior to these two outings. He'll draw the A's next week; the 23-year-old held them scoreless over 5.1 frames on Aug. 29.
