  • Alex Meyer SP | LAA

Twins' Alex Meyer: Goes on disabled list Saturday

Meyer (shoulder) was placed on the 7-day disabled list Saturday, Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press reports. "He's not doing too much, which is of concern," said Twins general manager Terry Ryan.

Meyer will seek a second opinion on his pitching shoulder, but the fact remains that he'll be on the shelf for at least another week due to shoulder inflammation. The hope is that Meyer's second opinion will shed some light on when he could be expected to return. He has not pitched since May 3, when he allowed three runs over 2.2 innings against Houston.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Athletics' Rich Hill: Targeting Reds series as return date

The A's are targeting next weekend's series against the Reds as a potential return date for Hill (groin), Joe Stiglich of CSN California reports.

Hill's turn in the rotation was skipped this weekend as Kendall Graveman was tabbed as Saturday's starter and Sonny Gray was announced as the starter for the series finale. However, the hope is that Hill's groin injury will only cost him one start. The A's are targeting next weekend's interleague series against the Reds as the return date for Hill, but the veteran lefty will likely need to test out his injury with a bullpen session before he's given the green light to rejoin the rotation.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Athletics' Sonny Gray: To be activated Sunday, start against Astros

Gray (back) is expected to be activated off the disabled list to start Sunday's game against Houston, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

The A's plan as of Friday was to have Gray make his scheduled rehab start at High-A Stockton on Sunday, but with Rich Hill (groin) officially having his turn in the rotation skipped, Oakland will activate Gray to start the series finale in Houston. Gray was placed on the disabled list on May 22 due to a strained right trapezius and hadn't looked like his usual self in his four starts leading up to landing on the DL, notching a 9.61 ERA in just 19.2 innings during that span. He'll have the tough task of facing an Astros lineup that has been heating up for his first start back Sunday.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Athletics' Rich Hill: Won't start Sunday

Hill (groin) will not start Sunday against the Astros, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

Hill was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday, but manager Bob Melvin did allude to the possibility of the veteran lefty taking the mound for the series finale Sunday. However, the A's will be cautious with Hill and skip his turn in the rotation completely. Hill is set to rest Saturday and play catch Sunday before the club makes a decision on when he will start next. Sunday's starter for the A's is still undecided.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Rangers' Yu Darvish: Notches second victory of season Friday

Darvish (2-0) struck out five and gave up six hits, three earned runs and a walk over 5.2 innings in Friday's 7-3 victory over the Mariners.

The 29-year-old right-hander had another encouraging outing and was able to last long enough to hit his previously determined 85-to-95-pitch limit. It's been relatively smooth sailing for the former All-Star in his comeback from his 2015 Tommy John surgery, as he's tallied 12 strikeouts over 10.2 innings while issuing only a pair of free passes. Darvish will take the next step in his return against the Astros next Wednesday.

  • Taijuan Walker SP | LAA

Mariners' Taijuan Walker: Knocked around for second straight start Friday

Walker (2-6) struck out two and gave up nine hits, six earned runs and four walks over five innings in Friday's 7-3 loss to the Rangers.

Walker labored during his time on the mound, as he only managed to throw 58 of 107 pitches for strikes. The control issues led to another early exit for the 23-year-old right-hander who has failed to complete at least six innings in six of his last seven starts. He's also been particularly victimized by the long ball in his last pair of trips to the mound, giving up five home runs and 11 earned runs over that span. Walker has now dropped four straight decisions and will try to reverse the losing trend against the Indians next Wednesday.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

White Sox's Carlos Rodon: Takes loss in Friday blowout defeat by Tigers

Rodon (2-5) surrendered seven hits, four earned runs and three walks over six innings in Friday's 10-3 loss to the Tigers. He struck out five.

As has been in the case in a few of his five losses, Rodon wasn't terrible Friday, but did give up some key homers. The 23-year-old was touched up for an early solo shot by James McCann in the second inning, and Victor Martinez followed suit with one of his own in the third. It was Rodon's third start of the last five with double-digit homers surrendered, and he also issued multiple walks for the third straight start. He'll look to bounce back versus the Nationals next Thursday.

  • Luis Severino SP | ATH

Yankees' Luis Severino: Struggles in minor league start

Severino gave up three runs over 3.2 innings in Friday's start at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The 22-year-old also walked three and struck out four in his first start back after dealing with a triceps strain. The Yankees are planning to keep Severino in the minors in hopes that the struggling righty can regain his form, but he'll need to show more than he did in Friday's outing to rejoin the big league rotation.

  • Ricky Nolasco SP | ARI

Twins' Ricky Nolasco: Throws quality start in loss Friday

Nolasco (2-4) allowed just three runs (two earned) on six hits during 7.2 innings of work, but was tagged with the loss Friday against Tampa Bay. He struck out seven.

Although his ERA continues to disappoint, Nolasco is missing bats at a rate very similar to his 2015 numbers. He'll face the Marlins on Thursday in his next scheduled start.

  • Rays' Jake Odorizzi: Fans six in no-decision Friday

Odorizzi allowed only two runs on five hits and three walks while fanning six over six innings against Minnesota on Friday. He didn't factor in the decision.

The quality start was enough to put the Rays in a position to pick up the win Friday night. The 26-year-old righty has allowed two or fewer runs in seven of his past eight outings, and he's lowered his ERA to 3.33 along the way. His next start will come against Arizona on the road Wednesday.
