Athletics' Rich Hill: Slated to start Game 1 Saturday

Hill will start Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader with the Orioles, Rich Dubroff of CSNmidatlantic.com reports.

The Orioles have altered their rotation order in light of Friday's rainout, with Mike Wright starting the matinee Saturday and Ubaldo Jimenez following in the nightcap.

Athletics' Rich Hill: Friday's game postponed

Hill will not make his scheduled start Friday as the game has been postponed due to rain.

The A's and O's will play two Saturday to make up for the rainout, so Hill figures to just move back a day. With three straight quality starts under his belt and 41 strikeouts in 32 innings this season, Hill looks like a viable option in nearly all formats, but it would be nice to see the walks come back down (9.6 percent walk rate).

  • Athletics' Henderson Alvarez: May only need two more rehab starts

Alvarez (shoulder) may only need two more rehab starts before joining the A's rotation, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

The 26-year-old built up to 77 pitches in his most recent rehab start with Triple-A Nashville on Friday, going 4.2 innings with one run allowed and three strikeouts. Barring any setbacks in his next two outings, Alvarez could be back as soon as May 20. Sean Manaea may be the most likely candidate to lose his spot upon Alvarez's activation, but he will have a couple more starts to make his case to stick.

  • Chris Bassitt SP | BAL

Athletics' Chris Bassitt: Undergoes successful surgery

Bassitt (elbow) underwent successful Tommy John surgery Friday, Joe Stiglich of CSN California reports.

With the procedure out of the way, Bassitt is now ready to embark on the long road back to the major leagues. He will begin what is typically a 12-to-16 month rehab process Monday in Oakland. Sean Manaea and Jesse Hahn are currently rounding out the A's rotation, with Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) still rebuilding strength in the minors.

  • Indians' Carlos Carrasco: Completes light agility drills Friday

Carrasco (leg) completed light agility drills and mimicked his delivery on flat ground Friday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

This is a progression from his light jogging the right-hander was able to complete Tuesday, so it appears that he is making steady progress. Carrasco seems to still be on pace to return somewhere in the 4-to-6 week timetable, but things should become clearer when he begins to actually throw again.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Called up to major leagues

O'Sullivan was called up by the Red Sox on Friday, Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald reports.

He will provide some depth to the Boston bullpen, but O'Sullivan figures to head down next week to make room for Eduardo Rodriguez (knee), if he makes it that long. The 28-year-old O'Sullivan posted an ERA north of 6.00 with the Phillies the last two seasons, and he owns a 4.23 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in parts of eight seasons at the Triple-A level.

  • Andrew Heaney RP | LAD

Angels' Andrew Heaney: Dealing with UCL damage

Heaney is dealing with a damaged UCL in his left elbow but is hoping to avoid Tommy John surgery, Yahoo! Sports reports.

Heaney has made minimal progress since landing on the disabled list in early April with an elbow injury, and the latest report indicates he may be dealing with more than just a minor setback. Heaney figures to continue rehabbing his elbow as long as he can, but if he does not show improvement in the near future, the Angels could decide to send him under the knife.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Orioles' Kevin Gausman: Eight shutout innings Thursday against yankees

Gausman (0-1) held the Yankees scoreless over eight innings Thursday, allowing three hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Gausman showed pinpoint control, breezing through his eight innings with only 98 pitches and not issuing a single walk. He did not pick up the win as the Orioles could not get a run across the plate until the 10th inning. After missing the first three weeks of the season, Gausman has been very good in each of his first three starts and should have no restrictions going forward.

  • Michael Kopech SP | LAD

Red Sox's Michael Kopech: Playing catch only

Kopech (hand) began throwing two weeks ago, but his activity is still limited to playing catch, WEEI.com reports.

Kopech, who broke his hand during an altercation with a teammate in spring training, had been put on a 3-6 week timetable, but it doesn't look like he's going to hit that. There's presently no indication when he can start pitching in an extended spring training, let alone get out of Florida.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Mariners' Wade Miley: Quality start goes unrewarded

Miley allowed just two runs over six solid innings in Thursday's win over the Astros, but didn't receive a decision. He gave up five hits and two walks while striking out five.

The veteran lefty was a long way from duplicating the shutout he spun in his last game, but it was still a quality outing in his ongoing recovery from the horrors of his first four starts. Unfortunately, it's going to be hard for fantasy owners to rely on consistent production from Miley, as he's shown no sign of improving upon the pitching that led to ERAs in the mid-fours each of the last two seasons.
