Kevin Gausman to pitch one inning Monday in minors

Orioles starter Kevin Gausman will throw one inning for Triple-A Norfolk on Monday, reports MASNSports.com. It's akin to a bullpen session between starts.

Gausman is scheduled to start one of Friday's doubleheader games against the Rays. He's 3-1 with a 2.74 ERA in four starts this season.

    Kyle Gibson 'just executing pitches'

Twins starter Kyle Gibson puts his 22-inning scoreless streak on the line Tuesday when Minnesota visits the Angels. His scoreless streak is the longest active streak in the major leagues and 14 innings shy of the Twins' record set by  reliever J.C. Romero in 2004, reports MLB.com.

"I'm just executing pitches," said Gibson, who's 6-5 with a 3.25 ERA in 14 starts. "I'm not doing anything different. I'm definitely looking at scouting reports and who I'm facing. But it comes down to executing, no matter who is out there."

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Athletics push back Sonny Gray to Saturday

Sonny Gray's next start will come Saturday at Miami, not Tuesday against the Mets as scheduled, Athletics manager Bob Melvin told reporters. Oakland is giving the 24-year-old Gray extra rest as a precaution. He leads the team with 99 innings and has never pitched a full season in the majors.

Gray is 7-3 with a 2.91 ERA in 15 starts.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Athletics might skip Sonny Gray to keep innings down

Athletics pitcher Sonny Gray leads the team with 99 innings and might not pitch again until the weekend series at Miami, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. Gray's regular turn would be Tuesday against the Mets.

He's 7-3 with a 2.91 ERA and 86 strikeouts but has never pitched a full season in the majors. Oakland has two days off this week, which makes it easier to push back Gray.

  • Mechanical adjustment pays off for Justin Verlander

Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander made a few mechanical adjustments prior to Saturday's start, according to mlive.com.

Verlander worked to correct the issue all week, throwing a 40 pitch bullpen session immediately after his disastrous Tuesday start. He also added throwing sessions from flat ground throughout the week in order to stay on top of the issue. Verlander said he changed "a bunch of things."

"Bad habits start to creep in a little bit and before you know it there's a bunch of things that that causes," he said. "It's kind of a spiral effect. Just one little malfunction can lead to a bunch of other things." Though Verlander's adjustments led to a strong game, he said he wasn't done just yet. Verlander added that he'll continue to make his adjustments more natural heading into his next couple starts.

  • Justin Verlander fans eight before bullpen blows lead

Tigers starter Justin Verlander finally showed some signed of life Saturday, as he snapped a three-start losing streak in a 5-4 win over the Indians.

Verlander didn't get the win in the game, despite tossing seven of his best innings of the season. He allowed just two runs -- one earned -- on four hits, but the bullpen let him down as the game went into extras. He struck out eight batters to match his season-high, while walking just one on 100 pitches before he was pulled.

Verlander is still just 6-7 with a 4.73 ERA, as he has a big hole to dig out of after going 2-5 with a 7.83 ERA in his previous seven starts. He will look to build on Saturday's start with his next outing, set for Friday in Houston.

  • Jake Odorizzi fans 10, ends losing streak

Rays pitcher Jake Odorizzi spoiled Jake Buchanan's major-league debut Saturday, as he dominated the Astros in an 8-0 win.

Odorizzi pitched into the eighth inning while facing just three batters over the minimum. He allowed just one hit and a pair of walks in 7 1/3 inning of work, while striking out 10 batters on 111 pitches.

Odorizzi got the win to snap a winless streak that had reached six starts. He is still just 3-7 with a 4.29 ERA on the season, but will try to build on Saturday's outing when he takes the mound Friday in Baltimore.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Kevin Gausman to return to Orioles for Friday start

The demotion of Orioles promising starter Kevin Gausman to Triple-A Norfolk is quite temporary - he will be back up to start one of the Friday doubleheader games.

Gausman certainly wasn't sent down due to poor performance. He is unbeaten in his last three starts and has given up just two runs in 19 innings during that stretch.

  • Ricky Nolasco SP | ARI

Bullpen blows Ricky Nolasco's bid for .500

Twins pitcher Ricky Nolasco settled for a no-decision for the third outing in a row Friday, in 5-4 win over the White Sox.

Nolasco was in line for the win before closer Glen Perkins blew the save, though he fell a couple of outs short of a quality start. Nolasco allowed two runs on six hits an a pair of walks over 5 1/3 innings, both via solo home runs. He struck out just two batters on 104 pitches before being lifted with a 4-2 lead.

Nolasco remains 4-5 on the season, though he has not lost in his last five starts. He has a 5.52 ERA heading into his next start, Thursday against the Angels.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

    Kevin Gausman sent down Friday

The Orioles optioned pitcher Kevin Gausman to Triple-A Norfolk Friday, with a bullpen arm expected to be called up Saturday.

Gausman had been in the rotation for three turns and won each time out, allowing just two runs over 19 innings of work combined. He will have to remain in the minors for at least 10 days, barring an injury that forces someone on the 25-man roster to go on the disabled list.
