Justin Masterson to undergo MRI
Indians starting pitcher Justin Masterson, who left his start against Baltimore Monday due to soreness in his rib cage, said that hopefully he'll be able to return after a few days' rest, MLB.com reports.
Masterson will undergo an MRI on Tuesday morning to determine the extent of the injury. Manager Terry Francona would not speculate as to his recovery time at this point. He's scheduled to start Sunday against the Mets.
The ace of the Cleveland staff suffered the loss in the game Monday to fall to 14-10 on the year with a 3.52 ERA. -
Jose Quintana SP | COL
Jose Quintana has short day in defeat
White Sox starter Jose Quintana allowed a Derek Jeter RBI single in the first inning Monday afternoon in New York. The game was then delayed by almost two hours and he couldn't return when play resumed.
Quintana was replaced by Dylan Axelrod, who gave up eight runs -- six earned -- over his next 2 1/3 innings. With New York keeping the White Sox offense down, Quintana ended up suffering the loss on the outing to fall to 7-5 on the season with a 3.69 ERA.
Quintana allowed just one run on two hits over an inning of work. He threw 20 pitches and struck out one. Quintana lost for the first time in his last four appearances as he had recorded quality starts in each of his last three starts. He's been solid for the White Sox and makes his next appearance Saturday at Baltimore. -

Justin Masterson leaves with soreness above rib cage
Indians starter Justin Masterson had to leave Monday's start at home against Baltimore after just two batters into the second inning due to soreness above his left rib cage, MLB.com reports. His removal from the game was precautionary.
Masterson gave up one run on one hit and one walk over one full inning of work before leaving in favor of Preston Guilmet. Masterson was on the hook for the loss at the time, though it was very early in the game that he was injured. He threw just 25 pitches for the Indians and his ERA is at 3.52.
Masterson was 14-9 on the season as he entered the start Monday. He's been the ace of the Cleveland staff and hopefully isn't badly injured. He's scheduled to make his next appearance Sunday against the Mets, if he's healthy enough to make it. -
Kevin Gausman SP | CHC
Kevin Gausman could start for Baltimore
Orioles pitcher Kevin Gausman could be moved to the rotation down the stretch, the Baltimore Sun reports.
Gausman has pitched just 118 1/3 innings, and the Orioles have "massaged" it -- according to manager Buck Showalter -- so they can use the 22-year-old as a reliever or a starter if they so choose. Gausman has been lit up as a starter in the majors -- 7.66 ERA, .985 OPS allowed in five starts -- but dominated as a reliever, as he has a 1.54 ERA in 11 2/3 innings since his return to the majors in the bullpen. The club has not decided to move Gausman into the rotation as of yet.
