Bailey Ober SP | MIN
Twins' Bailey Ober: Crushed by Cardinals
Ober (0-1) coughed up eight runs on eight hits and three walks over 2.2 innings Sunday, striking out two and taking a loss against St. Louis. He was pitching despite coming down with a virus that had him in bed Friday and getting IV fluids Saturday, Phil Miller of the Minnesota Star Tribune reports.
Ober danced out of a two-on, one-out situation in the first inning, but things quickly unraveled from there. He served up a three-run shot to Victor Scott in the second and gave up five runs in the third, including another three-run jack by Pedro Pages. Ober looked impressive during spring training, posting a 1.77 ERA across 20.1 frames. The 6-foot-9 righty has posted a sub-4.00 ERA in each of his last three seasons. Ober's next outing is currently projected to be at home against the Astros.

Michael Wacha SP | KC
Royals' Michael Wacha: Struggles with command
Wacha (0-1) yielded a run on four hits and four walks over four innings Sunday, striking out two and taking a loss against Cleveland.
The lone run against Wacha came in the second inning when Carlos Santana knocked a leadoff double and came around to score on Gabriel Arias' sacrifice fly. Wacha worked around a couple of other sticky situations but ultimately needed 87 pitches (52 strikes) to work through four frames. He walked four or more batters just twice out of his 29 regular-season starts in 2024. Wacha will look for better results in his next outing, which is projected to be at home against Baltimore.

Tanner Bibee SP | CLE
Guardians' Tanner Bibee: Picks up first win
Bibee (1-0) allowed two hits and two walks over 5.2 shutout innings Sunday, striking out two and earning a win over the Royals.
Bibee was in line to be Cleveland's Opening Day starter, but an illness pushed his start back a few days. He coughed up a couple of extra-base knocks Sunday but was able to skate around danger in the scoreless performance. While the two punchouts and nine whiffs are a bit disappointing, the 26-year-old righty picked up where he left off last year after posting a 3.47 ERA across 173.2 regular-season frames. Bibee is lined up for a road matchup against the Angels next weekend.

Taj Bradley SP | MIN
Rays' Taj Bradley: Cruises to first win
Bradley (1-0) earned the win Sunday versus the Rockies, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks over six innings. He struck out seven.
The Tampa Bay right-hander scattered five hits -- four singles and one double -- across his 78 total pitches to secure his first victory and quality start of the season. Bradley's fastball looked sharp, as he averaged 96.8 mph on the pitch, in line with last season when it averaged 96.4 mph. The 24-year-old is currently scheduled to make his next start against the Rangers on the road next weekend.

Chris Bassitt SP | BAL
Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: Logs quality start in win
Bassitt (1-0) earned the win against the Orioles on Sunday, allowing one run on eight hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over six innings.
Bassitt yielded a run on a wild pitch in the first inning but bounced back with five scoreless frames. The veteran hurler disappointed in 2024, but he posted a 1.74 ERA and 0.97 WHIP this spring and is certainly capable of a rebound. He lines up for a road matchup with the Mets next weekend.

JP Sears SP | SD
Athletics' JP Sears: Sharp despite loss
Sears (0-1) took the loss Sunday against the Mariners, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out seven over 6.2 innings.
Sears was sharp Sunday, blanking Seattle through five innings before giving up a two-run homer to Julio Rodriguez in the sixth. The A's could muster only one run off Bryan Woo, leaving Sears with a hard-luck loss in his season debut. The 29-year-old left-hander was decent in 2024, going 11-13 with a 4.38 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 137:49 K:BB across 32 starts (180.2 innings). Sears will hope for better luck in his second start, currently scheduled for next week in Colorado.

Bryan Woo SP | SEA
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Impressive season debut
Woo (1-0) earned the win Sunday over the A's, allowing one run on three hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out five.
Woo picked up where he left off last season, when he pitched to a 2.89 ERA with a 0.90 WHIP and 101 strikeouts over 121.1 innings. Tyler Soderstrom's fourth-inning homer was the lone blemish on Woo's line Sunday -- he needed just 76 pitches to make it through six innings. The 24-year-old right-hander will look to keep rolling in his second start, currently scheduled for next week in San Francisco.

Marcus Stroman SP | NYY
Yankees' Marcus Stroman: Falls short of win
Stroman didn't factor in the decision Sunday against Milwaukee after allowing three runs on five hits and a walk over 4.2 innings. He struck out three.
The New York offense delivered double-digit runs for the second straight game, but Stroman was unable to stick around long enough to qualify for the victory. Still, it was a decent season debut for the right-hander, with most of the damage against him coming via a two-run homer from Jake Bauers. A road matchup with the Pirates likely waits for Stroman next weekend.

Tomoyuki Sugano SP | COL
Orioles' Tomoyuki Sugano: Leaves early due to cramps
The Orioles announced that Sugano was removed from Sunday's game against the Blue Jays in the fifth inning due to cramps, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Before being pulled from the game prior to the bottom of the fifth inning, Sugano had a team trainer check out his hand. While it's unclear if the cramping he experienced was in his pitching hand or elsewhere on his body, the issue doesn't seem to be a major concern for the 35-year-old rookie, who gave up two earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one over four frames in his MLB debut. Sugano tentatively lines up to make his next turn in the rotation Saturday in Kansas City, and he should be ready to take the hill that day if he makes it through his between-starts bullpen session without any complications.

Tomoyuki Sugano SP | COL
Orioles' Tomoyuki Sugano: Exits start with hand injury
Sugano was lifted from his start Sunday against the Blue Jays after four innings due to an apparent right hand injury, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. He struck out one and allowed two earned runs on four hits and two walks in his MLB debut.
Sugano returned to the hill for the bottom of the fifth after tossing 73 pitches through four innings, but he cut his warmup short and was visited on the mound by a trainer. After getting his hand checked out, Sugano then headed to the dugout without throwing a pitch. The Orioles should have an update on Sugano's status after the game, but his availability for his next projected turn through the rotation next weekend in Kansas City may now be up in the air.
