Springs (4-3) earned the win against the Rangers on Thursday, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out one over six scoreless innings.

Springs ran into a bit of trouble in the fifth inning with runners on second and third, but he struck out Tucker Barnhart to escape the frame unscathed. Springs faced the minimum number of batters in four of six innings, tossing just 68 pitches (45 strikes) while inducing 12 flyball outs. Thursday marked his third quality start of the season and second six-frame shutout. Springs is in line to face the Mariners at home next week.

Mahle (3-1) came away with the loss against the Athletics on Thursday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out six over six innings.

Mahle gave up an RBI single to Miguel Andujar in the first inning, but the former stranded baserunners on the corners to limit the damage to one run. Mahle retired 12 straight batters over the next five scoreless frames, but he was still tagged with the loss as the Rangers' bats fell silent against Jeffrey Springs and the A's bullpen. Mahle has four quality starts over his last five outings, and his 1.19 ERA over 37.2 innings is tied with Max Fried for second best in the majors behind Yoshinobu Yamamoto (1.06) among qualified starters. Mahle is lined up to face the Red Sox at Fenway Park next week.

Burke (2-4) earned the win against the Brewers on Thursday, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out five over six scoreless innings.

Three of the six baserunners Burke allowed came in the first inning, but he was able to escape a bases-loaded situation after getting Rhys Hoskins to fly out. Burke proceeded to retire the minimum number of batters in four of the next five frames and came away with his second quality start of the season on 94 pitches (58 strikes) while generating 10 whiffs. His efforts Thursday dropped his ERA and WHIP to 4.91 and 1.36, respectively, over 33 innings. Burke will look to make it two wins in a row in his next start, tentatively slated for next week on the road against the Royals.

The Tigers recalled Owens from Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.

Owens received a promotion to Triple-A to start the season and has since turned in a 4.50 ERA and 1.79 WHIP alongside an 11:9 K:BB through 14 innings with the Mud Hens. Despite his subpar performance, he'll be recalled to the majors for the first time to replace Kenta Maeda, who was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Owens' stay in Detroit will likely be short, however, as Beau Brieske (ankle) is nearing activation from the injured list.

Buehler did not bounce back well from his start Saturday and is back in Boston for testing on his shoulder while the team is in Toronto, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Buehler is dealing with shoulder soreness and Boston is unsure if a trip to the injured list will be needed. The right-hander was expected to start Friday, but Brayan Bello is now set to take the mound instead, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Saturday will now be open for a pitcher to be named later with Garrett Crochet remaining set to pitch Sunday.

Baz (3-1) took the loss Thursday against the Royals, allowing seven runs on nine hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out one.

Baz managed to work around traffic to keep the Royals off the board in his first three innings. He'd eventually give up a run in the fourth before Kansas City exploded for six runs over Baz's final 2.2 frames. The right-hander has been excellent in four of his six starts this year, allowing just three runs in 26 innings. However, he's now given up 12 runs across nine frames in his other two outings. Overall, Baz sports a 3.86 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB this season. He'll look to rebound in his next start, currently scheduled for next week against the Phillies.

Lugo (3-3) earned the win Thursday over Tampa Bay, allowing two runs on five hits over six innings. He struck out five.

Lugo was sharp Thursday, allowing just a solo homer to Yandy Diaz in the first inning before the Rays added a second run with two outs in the sixth. It's the third straight quality start for Lugo, who's allowed just five runs over 20.2 innings in that span. His ERA is down to 3.07 with a 1.05 WHIP and 34:12 K:BB across seven outings (44 innings) this season. Lugo will look to keep rolling in his next start, currently lined up for next week against the White Sox.

The Athletics plan to recall Hoglund from Triple-A Las Vegas to start Friday's game against the Marlins, Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com reports.

Hoglund has been dominant through six starts in Triple-A, logging a 2.43 ERA and 1.06 WHIP alongside a 30:7 K:BB across 29.2 innings. Thanks to his success, the 25-year-old righty will now come up from the minors to help out an Athletics rotation that owns a 4.66 ERA on the year.

The Astros optioned Blubaugh to Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday.

With the Astros opting to skip Hayden Wesneski's turn through the rotation this week, Blubaugh was summoned from Triple-A on Wednesday to make a spot start in his MLB debut. The 24-year-old was the pitcher of record in Houston's 7-4 loss to Detroit, covering four innings and allowing seven runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out six. Wesneski is expected to return to action next week and Lance McCullers (forearm) is slated to come off the injured list and start Sunday against the White Sox, so the Astros didn't have room for Blubaugh in the rotation beyond Wednesday.

Bradford (elbow) threw from 90 feet on flat ground this week, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

The left-hander will begin throwing breaking balls next week and believes he will be ready to throw off a mound within the next three weeks. That timeline suggests Bradford will not be back before the end of May, but he is making progress. The southpaw is on the 60-day injured list and working his way back from a left elbow sprain.
