  • Brayan Bello SP | BOS

Red Sox's Brayan Bello: Takes step back against Mets

Bello (12-7) took the loss against the Mets on Monday, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four batters over five innings.

Bello had been on a roll coming into Monday, notching three quality starts over his past four appearances and posting a 2.49 ERA during that span. He wasn't up to that level of performance against New York, as he allowed at least one run in each of the second, third and fourth innings and didn't retire the side in order until his fifth (and final) frame. Bello still managed to keep Boston in the game, and his next start is lined up to be a juicy matchup against the hapless White Sox this weekend.

Orioles' Corbin Burnes: Earns 13th win

Burnes (13-7) picked up the win Monday against the White Sox, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk across five innings. He struck out four.

Flexen (2-14) took the loss Monday against the Orioles, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks across 3.1 innings. He struck out five.

Flexen labored through three-plus frames, requiring 95 pitches (54 strikes) to retire just 10 batters. He's now lost 11 straight decisions (covering a span of 21 outings) and leads MLB with 14 losses this season. The right-hander has a 5.36 ERA in 137.2 frames in 2024.

  • Logan Gilbert SP | SEA

Mariners' Logan Gilbert: Strikes out nine in no-decision

Gilbert did not factor into the decision in Monday's 5-4 loss to the Athletics, allowing four runs on four hits and one walk with nine strikeouts over six innings.

Gilbert generated an impressive 16 whiffs on 95 pitches but was burned by a four-run third inning that included a three-run homer by Shea Langeliers. The 27-year-old righty has been inconsistent since the All-Star break, logging five quality starts while yielding 17 total earned runs in his other three outings. On the season, he owns a 3.19 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 181:32 K:BB across 177.2 innings and next lines up to face the Cardinals this weekend.

Bido entered the sixth inning with a 4-2 lead but yielded two runs on three hits before being lifted at 91 pitches. The 28-year-old ended a run of five consecutive starts allowing two earned runs or fewer and surrendered a home run for the first time since July 28. On the season, he owns a 3.52 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 60:25 K:BB across 61.1 innings and lines up to face the Tigers this weekend.

  • Gerrit Cole SP | NYY

Yankees' Gerrit Cole: Leaves with calf cramp

Cole exited Monday's start against the Rangers with a right calf cramp, Erik Boland of Newsday reports. He struck out nine and allowed one earned run on four hits and one walk over six innings and was in line for the win before leaving the game.

Cole came out for the seventh inning but exhibited discomfort during his warmup pitches. The Yankees pulled him from the game as a result, though he seems to have avoided anything serious. Even so, the team will monitor him closely for the next few days, which should help clarify his status for his next turn through the rotation, which is scheduled to come up Sunday in Chicago versus the Cubs or Monday at home versus the Royals.

  • Gerrit Cole SP | NYY

Yankees' Gerrit Cole: Exits with apparent calf issue

Cole exited Monday's start against the Rangers due to an apparent calf injury, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Cole completed six innings and dominated the Rangers, tallying nine strikeouts while allowing only one earned run on four hits and a walk. He came back out for the seventh inning but suffered the injury during his warmup pitches. The severity and exact nature of the issue are unclear.

Woods Richardson was pulled at just 71 pitches with two outs and a runner on second in the fourth inning. This was the 23-year-old's lowest pitch count in an outing since June 2, but he has now failed to complete more than five frames seven times in his past 10 starts. On the season, he owns a 3.95 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 104:40 K:BB across 120.2 innings and lines up for a road matchup with the Royals this weekend.

  • Zack Littell SP | WAS

Rays' Zack Littell: Allows four runs in return

Littell (5-9) took the loss against the Twins on Monday, allowing four runs on seven hits and four walks with two strikeouts over four innings.

Littell was a bit rusty in his return from the injured list, walking a season-high four batters and surrendering a three-run homer in the third inning. On the plus side, his velocity was mostly in line with his season averages, and he generated a solid 11 whiffs on 78 pitches. The 28-year-old owns a 4.04 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 118:30 K:BB across 133.2 innings this season and lines up for a tough matchup with the Orioles this weekend.

  • Ty Madden P | DET

Tigers' Ty Madden: Allows two runs in relief

Madden did not factor into the decision in Monday's 3-0 loss to the Padres, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks with two strikeouts over four innings.

Madden was used as a bulk reliever and tossed four scoreless frames before yielding two runs without recording an out in the eighth. The rookie has allowed three earned runs with an unimpressive 3:3 K:BB across nine major-league innings and could make another appearance this weekend against the Athletics, assuming he continues to work as a starter or primary pitcher.
