  • Tyler Mahle SP | SF

Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Officially placed on IL

The Rangers placed Mahle on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with right shoulder tightness.

Mahle allowed four earned runs over three inning during his most recent start Sunday. He'll now be forced to miss several turns through the rotation, as the Rangers have deemed his injury severe enough to warrant a trip to the injured list. Jon Gray (groin) was reinstated from the IL in a corresponding move and will act as Mahle's replacement in Texas' rotation.

  • Luis Gil SP | NYY

Yankees' Luis Gil: Exits with trainer

Gil was removed from Tuesday's game against the Guardians due to back tightness.

The 26-year-old righty needed 78 pitches to get through three-plus innings before leaving the game, during which he gave up three runs on three hits and six walks while striking out three batters. He'll presumably undergo imaging to determine the severity of his injury, and his status for his next start -- tentatively scheduled to come against the Rockies over the weekend -- is uncertain.

  • Johnny Cueto SP | LAA

Angels' Johnny Cueto: Will start Wednesday

The Angels will select Cueto's contract from Triple-A Salt Lake to start Wednesday's game against the Royals, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

Since signing a minor-league deal with the Angels on July 20, Cueto has posted a 3.09 ERA and 1.39 WHIP through 23.1 innings across four starts with Triple-A Salt Lake. While those numbers are a significant improvement over his time with the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate (5.92 ERA, 1.24 WHIP in 38 innings) earlier in the season, the 38-year-old righty shouldn't be viewed as a reliable streaming option as he makes his season debut against a Royals offense that has scored the sixth-most runs in the majors (610).

  • Reese Olson SP | DET

Tigers' Reese Olson: Throwing side session Wednesday

Olson (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday.

Wednesday will mark Olson's first time throwing off a mound since landing on the injured list in late July, as he had been limited to playing catch off flat ground up to this point. He'll presumably need to throw several additional bullpen sessions before progressing to live batting practice and eventually a minor-league rehab assignment, but he should have enough time left in the season to return to the Detroit rotation.

  • Miguel Ullola SP | HOU

Astros' Miguel Ullola: Strong summer at Double-A

Ullola has a 3.88 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and a 67:29 K:BB in 58 innings over his last 12 outings for Double-A Corpus Christi.

The hard-throwing righty has a 4.49 ERA for the year, but he's been more consistent since the calendar turned to June. Ullola's 13.5 percent walk rate on the year is his best mark to date, so he still needs to improve his control to make it as a starter at the highest level, but things are trending up. He sits at a career-high 106.1 innings on the season, which is another key datapoint for the 22-year-old. He will likely be added to the 40-man roster this offseason to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.

  • Astros' Alonzo Tredwell: On shelf at Single-A

Single-A Fayetteville placed Tredwell on the 7-day injured list Aug. 6.

It's not clear what the injury is, but Tredwell left his July 14 appearance after retiring just one batter, leaving with the trainer after feeling something on an 0-1 pitch, per Astros Future. The 22-year-old righty was slightly delayed to start the season while building up in extended spring training. He had a 5.37 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and a 67:38 K:BB in 57 innings prior to suffering the injury.

  • Cade Povich SP | BAL

Orioles' Cade Povich: Recalled from Triple-A

The Orioles recalled Povich from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday.

Povich was sent down following a spot start Saturday versus the Red Sox after allowing two runs over 6.1 innings, but he's back now to take the roster spot of Zach Eflin (shoulder). The rookie left-hander would appear likely to rejoin the rotation for a start Thursday against the Astros.

  • Zach Eflin SP | BAL

Orioles' Zach Eflin: To IL with shoulder inflammation

The Orioles placed Eflin on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with right shoulder inflammation.

Eflin had shown no signs of his shoulder bothering him, having turned in four straight quality starts with a 2.13 ERA since joining the Orioles. He had been in line to make his fifth start as a member of the Orioles on Wednesday versus the Mets but instead will be sidelined for at least the next couple weeks. Cade Povich has been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk and should slide into Eflin's rotation spot.

  • Tyler Mahle SP | SF

Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Heading to IL

Manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday that the Rangers will place Mahle on the injured list with shoulder stiffness, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Mahle made his return from Tommy John surgery Aug. 6 and made three starts since, logging a 4.97 ERA in 12.2 innings. His most recent start ended after three innings and it appears he picked up an injury during the outing. The Rangers are expected to activate Jon Gray (groin) to fill Mahle's spot in the rotation.

  • J.P. France SP | HOU

Astros' J.P. France: Recalled, placed on 60-day IL

The Astros recalled France (shoulder) from Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday and placed him on the 60-day injured list,

France had been on Sugar Land's 60-day IL after having season-ending surgery on his right shoulder in early July. The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of outfielder Ben Gamel, who was claimed off waivers from the Mets.
