Smith-Shawver (elbow) is slated to make the first start of his rehab assignment Tuesday with Single-A Augusta, Barrett Sallee of 680 The Fan Atlanta reports.

After completing a series of bullpen sessions and live batting practice sessions as he works his way back from June 2025 Tommy John surgery, Smith-Shawver threw a two-inning simulated game at Atlanta's spring training facility in Florida as a final step before embarking on a rehab assignment. He'll likely build on that two-inning workload during Tuesday's outing and will presumably need at least three or four more rehab starts beyond that before Atlanta brings him back from the 60-day injured list. Smith-Shawver still has a minor-league option remaining, but if his velocity and command looks good during his rehab assignment, Atlanta may have room for him in the big-league rotation. Before undergoing elbow surgery last summer, Smith-Shawver posted a 3.86 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 42:21 K:BB In 44.1 innings over nine starts with Atlanta.

Junk (shin) allowed one run over 2.2 innings in his first rehab start with Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday before exiting after being struck on the left wrist by a comebacker, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

X-rays came back clean, and Junk will make his next scheduled rehab start. Working his way back from right shin bone inflammation, Junk threw 42 pitches Sunday and could require at least a couple more rehab outings before the Marlins decide whether to reinsert him into their rotation. The right-hander collected a 4.80 ERA and 43:13 K:BB over 60 frames covering 11 starts before getting hurt.

Leahy (6-4) earned the win Sunday, allowing one run on two hits and three walks over five innings against the Marlins. He struck out five.

After lasting at least six innings in each of his previous two starts, Leahy was lifted after five innings and 87 pitches (57 strikes), though he was effective enough and received enough support from the bullpen to earn his first win since May 16. The 29-year-old will finish June with a 3.76 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 21:9 K:BB across 26.1 innings (five starts) during the month. Leahy will take a 4.09 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 67:31 K:BB across 81.1 innings (16 starts) into his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Saturday against the Cubs.

The Padres announced Canning as their starting pitcher for Monday's contest against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Canning was deployed behind an opener in both of his last two appearances, but he wasn't particularly effective in that capacity, yielding five runs on eight hits and four walks in five innings between those outings. The Padres will give the right-hander another look in a starting role Monday, but he may need a strong showing to extend his stay in the rotation. German Marquez (forearm) is in the midst of a rehab assignment at Triple-A El Paso and could bump Canning to the bullpen or off the 40-man roster entirely once he's reinstated from the injured list.

Feltner did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and no walks over six innings against Minnesota. He did not record a strikeout.

Feltner limited damage, with his lone earned run coming on a Kody Clemens solo homer in the fourth inning, though the right-hander failed to record a strikeout in an outing for the first time since 2023. With June winding down, Feltner will finish the month with a 4.00 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 16:12 K:BB across five starts spanning 27 innings. The 29-year-old will take a 2-2 record with a 4.42 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 35:20 K:BB across 53 innings (11 starts) into his next outing, tentatively lined up for next weekend against San Francisco.

Marquez (forearm) didn't make his scheduled rehab start Sunday with Triple-A El Paso and could return from the 15-day injured list to appear Monday in the Padres' series opener against the Cubs in Chicago, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Marquez had already made five rehab appearances (four starts) with El Paso this month, building up to as many five innings and 73 pitches back on June 17. Though he had been scheduled to start Sunday, Marquez ended up working out of the El Paso bullpen in his most recent appearance Tuesday, when he struck out three and allowed one run over 1.2 innings. The Padres seem to be keeping their options open with Marquez's role for when he returns, but if he's activated Monday, he'll most likely be deployed as a starter -- albeit on a limited pitch count -- or a bulk reliever. Griffin Canning is also available on five days' rest and could be part of Monday's pitching plan.

Waldron (forearm) struck out four and allowed two earned runs on two hits and four walks across 2.2 innings Thursday in a rehab start with Triple-A El Paso.

Waldron has now made three rehab starts with El Paso and built up to 59 pitches during Thursday's outing. Though the Padres are seemingly letting Waldron get stretched back out as a starter, he may need to show improved results on the farm in order to get a look in the big-league rotation.

Woodruff did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Cubs, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out six over 5.2 scoreless innings.

Woodruff was in complete control throughout the outing, with Miguel Amaya's third-inning double standing as the only hit he allowed. Woodruff has looked outstanding since returning from shoulder inflammation, tossing 11.2 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits with a 16:2 K:BB across his two starts. The veteran has not issued more than two walks in any outing across the entire season. He is set to face Arizona on the road in his next start.

May (back) is slated to start Thursday's series finale in Atlanta.

May didn't end up pitching this past week after experiencing back tightness coming out of his previous start June 21 in Kansas City, but the Cardinals are already considering him ready to go the next time his turn in the rotation comes up Thursday. Before getting knocked around for six runs over two innings in his outing against Kansas City, May had been St. Louis' top-performing starter for more than two months. In his preceding 12 starts from April 10 through June 15, May went 5-4 with a 2.54 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 68:18 K:BB across 74.1 innings.

Gasser is slated to start Monday's game against the Reds, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

After Brandon Woodruff was reinstated from the injured list last Monday, the Brewers kept a five-man rotation intact by shifting Gasser to the bullpen. The 27-year-old lefty wasn't needed in relief during the team's series with the Cubs over the weekend, and he'll now step back into a starting role after manager Pat Murphy previously told Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the Brewers would shift to a six-man rotation through the All-Star break while Milwaukee closes its first-half schedule with 18 games in 17 days. Gasser -- who has submitted a 3.74 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 24:6 K:BB in 21.2 innings over his last four outings -- looks like an intriguing short-term pickup, particularly in leagues with weekly lineups. He'll tentatively line up for a two-start week, with his second appearance expected to come next Sunday in Arizona.
