Luzardo (1-0) picked up the win Friday, giving up two hits and four walks over 5.2 scoreless innings in a 2-1 victory over the Mets. He struck out five.

The southpaw was effectively wild, throwing only 51 of 91 pitches for strikes but generating 15 swinging strikes and not allowing much hard contact. Luzardo posted strong numbers over 18 starts in 2022, and if he can stay healthier this season he could blossom into an ace for the Marlins. His next start is likely to come at home against the Twins next week.

Peterson (0-1) took the loss Friday as the Mets fell 2-1 to the Marlins, allowing one run on eight hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out five.

The southpaw tossed 51 of 84 pitches for strikes in his first outing of the season, but a second-inning solo shot by Jorge Soler put the Mets in an early hole they never climbed out of. Peterson could get a lengthy run in the rotation with both Justin Verlander (lat) and Jose Quintana (ribs) on the injured list, and he'll look for a little more run support in his next start, likely to come next week in Milwaukee.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Friday that Grove is expected to get up to three starts if all goes to plan, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Grove was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City after Ryan Pepiot was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left oblique strain. If the right-hander does struggle Monday against the Rockies, it's possible the Dodgers could turn to some pitching depth, but it does appear that Grove is going to make multiple starts while Pepiot recovers.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced Friday that Gonsolin (ankle) will throw a bullpen session before Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

If things go well during that bullpen session, Roberts is hopeful that the right-hander will face hitters at Camelback Ranch in Arizona on Wednesday. Gonsolin is on the injured list with a sprained ankle injury, and if things go well he could return to the Los Angeles rotation by the end of April.

Soroka (hamstring) is lined up to start for Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday, Gabe Burns of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Soroka is also expected to get some relief work at the Triple-A level as Atlanta maps out a plan to get and keep the 25-year-old righty healthy and effective here in 2023. He was bothered this spring by a right hamstring strain, the latest in a string of injuries that have kept him from appearing in a major-league game since August 2020.

Megill was recalled Friday from Triple-A Syracuse, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Megill will jump into the Mets' starting rotation Saturday at Miami as the fill-in for Justin Verlander, who is out indefinitely because of a low-grade teres major strain in his upper right arm. Megill, 27, holds a career 4.73 ERA in 137 major-league innings and probably shouldn't be considered as more than a streaming option outside of deeper mixed and NL-only leagues.

Verlander (shoulder) did some light throwing Friday in Miami, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Verlander was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday after being diagnosed with a low-grade teres major strain, but he has the blessing from team doctors to continue throwing on the side so that he won't require an overly lengthy build-up once he's cleared again for mound work. The veteran ace is scheduled to undergo new imaging tests on his upper right arm late next week to gauge the healing process. There should be a clearer timetable for his Mets debut once those scans are reviewed. Tylor Megill is filling his rotation spot.

Miller will be sidelined to start the minor-league season due to mild shoulder soreness, MLB.com reports.

Miller is in line to make his MLB debut this season if he can pitch well at Triple-A and stay healthy, but he's already dealing with a shoulder issue to start the season. After a dominant spring training on the heels of a spectacular 2022 season, Gavin Stone is the more likely premium Dodgers pitching prospect to join the big-league rotation this summer.

Quintana (ribs) was in the clubhouse with the Mets prior to their Opening Day win over the Marlins and will begin his rehab this weekend in New York, Abbey Mastrocco of The New York Daily News reports.

The veteran southpaw underwent a bone graft on his ribcage after a stress fracture revealed a benign tumor this spring. Quintana has no timeline for his return to a mound, however, and a July return to the rotation still seems like the best-case scenario. "I don't know yet," he said Thursday. "I don't have dates. This week I start to get moving and can work out. Let's see, it's one step at a time."

Urias (1-0) earned the victory Thursday against the Diamondbacks, yielding two runs on just four hits, no walks and a hit by pitch over six frames in an 8-2 win. He struck out six.

Urias was very efficient, needing just 79 pitches to cover his six frames. He cruised after allowing a single run in each of the first two innings, facing the minimum the rest of the way. Urias debuted a slider-cutter hybrid in the outing, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, with the pitch generating two swinging strikes on eight swings. Some natural regression is coming for Urias following last year's 2.16 ERA, which came with a 3.71 FIP, but he should remain a master at inducing weak contact and perhaps the new pitch can help boost his strikeout total.
