Gallen (0-1) was charged with the loss Thursday versus the Dodgers, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out seven.

He was dinged for three runs on three hits and a walk in his final inning of work, with the last run coming across after he was pulled. The velocity on Gallen's fastball and cutter was down a bit, but he was still able to get seven strikeouts and 13 swinging strikes. Gallen was wild this spring and that carried over into this outing, as he threw just 55 of 89 pitches for strikes. His improved control in 2022 was a big part of his breakout, so those with fantasy shares in the right-hander will hope he gets that ironed out quickly.

Snell (0-1) took the loss Thursday against the Rockies, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk over 4.1 innings. He struck out nine.

Snell's season debut echoed a trend for him in recent campaigns -- he struck out plenty of batters but threw so many pitches (93) that he was unable to go deep into the game. To the left-hander's credit, he issued just one walk, and two of the three runs against him came after he departed the contest. Snell should be a great source of punchouts again this season as long as he stays healthy, but he hasn't posted an ERA better than 3.24 or a WHIP better than 1.20 since his Cy Young 2018 campaign.

Marquez (1-0) earned the win Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks over six innings in a 7-2 victory over San Diego. He struck out five.

Marquez quieted an intimidating Padres lineup, allowing just five hits. Though three of those knocks went for extra bases, Marquez was able to get through six frames having yielded just a pair of runs. The right-hander threw 57 of 87 pitches for strikes and carried over the momentum from a strong spring during which he allowed just one run over 17 frames. Marquez's Opening Day performance may have fantasy managers feeling intrigued, but it's worth remembering that he posted an ugly 6.70 ERA on his home field last season.

Alcantara did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing three runs on three hits and four walks over 5.2 innings against the Mets. He struck out two.

This goes down as a disappointment for those who drafted Alcantara, but he had 14 swinging strikes on 96 pitches, which suggests the strikeouts should tick back up. Alcantara has never been the most dominant arm in terms of whiffs, but he's been over eight strikeouts per nine the past three seasons. The right-hander excels by using his changeup and sinker to keep the ball on the ground while rarely handing out free passes, and fantasy GMs feeling a twinge of panic about their Alcantara shares should keep in mind he walked five Giants on Opening Day last season, and the rest of the campaign turned out pretty well.

Nola allowed five earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four across 3.2 innings in Thursday's loss to the Rangers. He did not factor into the decision.

Nola out-dueled Jacob deGrom for much of his outing, as he blanked the Rangers through three frames. However, things deteriorated quickly in the fourth inning when he allowed five of the first six batters he faced to reach base. That stretch culminated with a three-run homer by Robbie Grossman. Nola is coming off an excellent 2022 season during which he posted a 3.25 ERA and 0.96 WHIP, so there's no need to panic over one poor outing to begin the new campaign.

Mikolas did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing five runs on 10 hits and zero walks over 3.1 innings against the Blue Jays. He struck out six.

Credit to Mikolas for filling up the strike zone as he normally does, but he was entirely too hittable within the zone on this particular day. Mikolas did not allow a single earned run in the Grapefruit League this year, throwing 12 scoreless innings, but the Blue Jays' high-powered offense brought him back to Earth in a hurry. It won't get much easier for Mikolas next week when St. Louis hosts Atlanta.

Keller did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing four runs on six hits and four walks over 4.2 innings against the Reds. He struck out eight.

Keller was an out away from qualifying for the win, but he gave up a two-out, two-run triple to Jason Vosler in the bottom of the fifth inning to lose the lead. He threw an even 100 pitches in his 2023 debut, inducing 15 swinging strikes. The 26-year-old righty may never break out as a star player, but he's in the streaming conversation. Keller lines up for a road start in Boston next week.

Greene did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks over 3.1 innings against the Pirates. He struck out eight.

The right-hander brought the fireworks to Cincinnati on Opening Day, regularly lighting up the radar gun at 100 mph, including one pitch clocked by Statcast at an absurd 105.2 mph. Oneil Cruz turned on one of those fastballs for a long homer, and per John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer, Greene's velocity dipped as he progressed through the outing. With that, manager David Bell decided to lift Greene after only 83 pitches. Greene should be available for a heavier workload next week at home against the Cubs, but it will be an uphill battle for him all season.

Senzatela (knee) was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday.

Senzatela is expected to miss at least the first month of the 2023 regular season as he completes his recovery from August 2021 surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee.

Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said Thursday that Fried (hamstring) will "definitely" miss his next scheduled start, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

It's not official yet, but Fried is almost certainly headed for a stint on the 15-day injured list after suffering a left hamstring strain in Thursday's season opener against the Nationals. The left-hander is without a clear timeline for his return but shouldn't be expected back until at least mid-April. Ian Anderson and Bryce Elder are the primary options to take the ball in his place next Wednesday at St. Louis.
