  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Confirmed as Tuesday's starter

DeSclafani (ankle) will be activated from the 60-day injured list to start Tuesday's game against the Braves, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

DeSclafani will make his first start since April 21 after missing almost two entire months due to right ankle inflammation. His last rehab outing lasted just 2.2 innings at Triple-A Sacramento, so it wouldn't be surprising to see the Giants hold him to a pitch count Tuesday evening, though the club has yet to announce any such restriction. The move will be made official closer to first pitch, as San Francisco will need to send someone off the active roster to make room for DeSclafani's activation.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Padres' Joe Musgrove: Able to throw

Musgrove has been able to throw while on the COVID-19 injured list but is expected to miss at least one turn in the rotation, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

The Padres have yet to specify whether Musgrove tested positive for the virus himself, but the fact that he's at least able to throw is encouraging either way. He isn't expected to make his next scheduled start Wednesday against Arizona, with Mike Clevinger scheduled to take the hill instead, but he may have a chance to return for his next turn in the rotation.

  • Mike Clevinger RP | PIT

Padres' Mike Clevinger: Scheduled to start Wednesday

Clevinger is scheduled to start Wednesday against Arizona, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Clevinger worked in relief in his first outing back from the COVID-19 injured list, giving up two runs on five hits across two innings of work against the Rockies on Friday. The plan was seemingly always to have him return to the rotation as soon as possible, however, so he'll start Wednesday in the spot that had belonged to Joe Musgrove, who's on the COVID-19 injured list himself.

  • Aaron Ashby RP | MIL

Brewers' Aaron Ashby: Not too concerned

Ashby isn't particularly worried about the forearm inflammation which sent him to the injured list Monday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Ashby left his previous start Tuesday against the Mets due to the injury, but he appeared to be on track to avoid missing time before the Brewers changed course and placed him on the injured list. Ashby's lack of concern stems from the fact that his velocity was fine in his Sunday bullpen session, but the Brewers nonetheless decided it was best for him to miss at least two turns in the rotation.

  • Trevor Rogers SP | BAL

Marlins' Trevor Rogers: Punches out seven in loss

Rogers (3-6) allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks in five innings Monday, striking out seven and taking a loss against the Mets.

Rogers put the first three Mets on base in the first inning but escaped the jam after allowing just one run. He retired nine consecutive batters before giving up two runs in the fourth followed by another run in the fifth. The 6-foot-5 southpaw has been tagged with at least four runs in four of his last six outings and has seen his ERA climb from 4.45 to 5.83 during that span. Rogers is lined up for a rematch with the Mets at home this weekend.

  • David Peterson SP | CHC

Mets' David Peterson: Fans seven in victory

Peterson allowed six hits and two walks over 5.1 scoreless innings Monday, striking out seven and earning a win over the Marlins.

Peterson faced several brief threats from the Marlins but still managed to turn in his first shutout performance since April 17 against Arizona. Since re-joining the big-league roster May 23, the 26-year-old is 3-1 with a 4.10 ERA through 26.1 frames. He lowered his season ERA to 3.18 with a 42:22 K:BB across 10 MLB appearances. Peterson is projected to face Houston at home next week.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Making second rehab start this week

Woodruff (hand) said he expects to make his second rehab start with High-A Wisconsin on Thursday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

After striking out seven in 2.2 innings (51 pitches) in his first rehab outing for Triple-A Nashville over the weekend, Woodruff might have been a candidate to return from the 15-day injured list this week to start for Milwaukee while on a restricted pitch count, but the organization will instead let him get fully stretched out in the minors. Assuming he's able to increase his pitch count Thursday while escaping the rehab start setback-free, Woodruff should rejoin the big-league rotation for next week's series in Tampa Bay. Woodruff was initially placed on the 15-day injured list May 30 due to a sprained ankle, but he's since fully healed from that injury and is now working his way back from a case of hand numbness related to a condition called Raynaud's syndrome.

  • Aaron Ashby RP | MIL

Brewers' Aaron Ashby: Placed on injured list

Ashby was placed on the 15-day injured list with left forearm inflammation Monday, retroactive to June 17.

Ashby sustained his forearm injury during Thursday's start against the Mets, but he expressed optimism over the last few days that he'd be able to play through the issue. He was initially listed as the probable starter for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals after completing a bullpen session Sunday but will ultimately land on the injured list due to inflammation. The Brewers haven't yet announced who will take the southpaw's place in the rotation, and it's not yet clear whether Ashby will miss more than the minimum of 15 days.

  • Marcus Stroman SP | NYY

Cubs' Marcus Stroman: Ready for mound work

Stroman (shoulder) is expected to throw a bullpen session within the next few days, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Stroman's inflamed right shoulder apparently responded well to playing catch last week, so he's poised to get back on the mound in what will mark the next step forward in his throwing progression. Once Stroman is comfortable using all his pitches during bullpen sessions, he'll advance to facing hitters in live batting practice before throwing a simulated game or heading out on a minor-league rehab assignment.

  • Jack Flaherty SP | DET

Cardinals' Jack Flaherty: Facing 75-pitch limit Tuesday

Flaherty is expected to target around 75 pitches for his second start of the season Tuesday in Milwaukee, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

The Cardinals' choice to activate Flaherty back from the 60-day injured list last week sped up his season debut, but he wasn't able to get properly ramped up for a starting role after forgoing a third rehab outing in the minors. Flaherty was thus capped at three innings and 60 pitches in his 2022 debut June 15 against the Pirates, so he'll need at least one more start to get fully stretched out. He's not expected to face any limitations for his third start of the season, which is set to come Sunday in St. Louis against the Cubs.
