Rutledge (biceps) will make his season debut at Single-A Fredericksburg on Thursday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.

Rutledge was slowed during spring training by biceps soreness and spent the first month of the season on the injured list. While the right-hander will presumably have his workload monitored early, it's encouraging he's now been cleared to return to game action, particularly after being limited to 13 games due to injuries last year.

Clevinger (knee) didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Guardians in Game 1 of a doubleheader after striking out four over 4.2 innings in his return from the 10-day injured list. He gave up three earned runs on four hits and three walks.

Facing off against his former organization, the right-hander was making his first appearance for the Padres since the 2020 playoffs after he was sidelined for the entire 2021 campaign following Tommy John surgery and the first month of the 2022 season due to a sprained knee. Clevinger didn't face any major restrictions in his first start with the big club, as he was lifted after tossing 95 pitches. The 31-year-old's excellent body of work in the majors makes him an interesting speculative pickup in shallower leagues where he might still be available, but he could need a few starts to sharpen his command and control coming off a lengthy layoff from game action. He threw only 54 of his 95 pitches for strikes Wednesday.

Lodolo (back) is penciled in to return from the 10-day injured list to start the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Pirates, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Lodolo has been on the IL for the past week due to a lower-back strain, but he should be able to return to action following a near-minimum-length absence. It's possible the Reds will monitor his workload Saturday, but he's been able to keep throwing since landing on the IL. In his first three major-league starts, the southpaw posted a 5.52 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 14.2 innings.

Snell (groin) made his second minor-league rehab start Wednesday with Single-A Lake Elsinore, covering four innings and striking out eight while giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks.

For the second straight rehab outing, Snell tossed four innings, but he built his pitch count up from 44 in his April 28 start to 66 in Wednesday's outing. Though Snell is likely capable of giving the Padres a decent amount of length if they elect to return him from the 10-day injured list early next week, it's possible the organization wants to have him make one more minor-league appearance before slotting back into the rotation. Whenever Snell makes his return to the active roster, the Padres will likely have to remove one of MacKenzie Gore or Nick Martinez from what would still be a six-man rotation.

Wheeler allowed six hits and one walk while striking out seven across 7.2 innings during Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Rangers. He didn't factor into the decision.

Wheeler was able to work his way around six hits, a walk and an error thanks to three double plays. The righty was at only 78 pitches with two outs in the eighth and the bases empty, but he still got the hook in a scoreless game. After giving up 12 runs through his first three starts, Wheeler has put together back-to-back scoreless outings and currently sports a 4.10 ERA with a 25:9 K:BB.

Garrett was placed on the 7-day injured list with Triple-A Jacksonville due to an impingement in his left shoulder, Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald reports.

The southpaw last pitched for Jacksonville on April 26 and struck out seven batters over five strong innings, but the issue apparently cropped up after the start. The 24-year-old's injury could cost him another chance at proving himself in the Miami rotation, as top prospect Max Meyer is now in line to get the next opportunity if it arises while Garrett is sidelined.

Meyer could be promoted to join the big-league rotation in the near future, Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald reports.

While the Marlins have had some internal discussions about using their top pitching prospect in the big-league bullpen, where his fastball-slider combination could be dominant, Meyer's success at Triple-A this season -- as well as the struggles of Elieser Hernandez in the Miami rotation -- make it more likely he will debut as a starter. The 23-year-old right-hander has a 1.71 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 33:6 K:BB through 26.1 innings over five starts for Triple-A Jacksonville, while Hernandez has stumbled to a 6.66 ERA and 1.44 WHIP through five starts for the Marlins, including a poor outing against Arizona on Wednesday. While no switch appears imminent, further struggles from Hernandez could accelerate the timeline for Meyer to make his Miami debut.

Wood (2-2) took the loss against the Dodgers on Wednesday, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven over 5.1 innings.

The southpaw cruised through three innings against the team for whom he has logged two stints, but Los Angeles broke through with two runs against him in the fourth. Mookie Betts then tagged Wood for a solo shot in the sixth, and the pitcher exited after facing just one additional batter. Wood did manage to rack up a season-high seven strikeouts in the outing, and he induced 13 swinging strikes overall. He'll carry a 4.38 ERA into his next start, which is on the schedule for Monday at home against Colorado.

Gonsolin (2-0) earned the win Wednesday against the Giants, tossing five innings and allowing one run on three hits and one walk while striking out five.

Brandon Crawford got to Gonsolin for a second-inning solo home run, but that was the only tally the Giants were able to record against him Wednesday. The right-hander again didn't go very deep in the outing -- he hasn't thrown more than 83 pitches in a start this season -- but he hung around long enough to earn his second victory. Gonsolin has taken full advantage of his opportunity to begin the season in the rotation, registering a 1.64 ERA and 1.09 WHIP across 22 innings despite a less promising 18:9 K:BB. He's tentatively slated to make his next start in Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

Corbin (0-5) suffered the loss against Colorado on Wednesday, completing eight innings during which he allowed five runs (three earned) on nine hits and no walks while striking out three.

It was an odd stat line for the veteran hurler, as he made it through eight innings on only 94 pitches despite allowing a fair amount of traffic on the bases. The efficiency was largely due to Corbin's good control -- he did not walk any batters after issuing multiple free passes in each of his first five starts this season. All of the damage against him was done in the fourth inning, when the Rockies racked up five runs on four hits and benefitted from a fielding error. To Corbin's credit, he bounced back strongly from that frame, allowing only two hits the rest of the way and retiring the final nine batters he faced. The southpaw has been better of late, but he still owns an ugly 7.16 ERA on the season, and he's tentatively lined up to next face the Mets at home early next week.
