Tony Gonsolin RP | KC
Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Goes only three innings
Gonsolin allowed one earned run on three hits and three walks while striking out five across three innings Sunday against the Rangers. He did not factor into the decision.
Gonsolin needed only 23 pitches to get through two innings, but he struggled mightily in the third frame. He allowed the first four batters he faced to reach base and surrendered a run on a wild pitch. While he limited the damage, the inefficiency cost him the chance to qualify for a win. Assuming Walker Buehler (hand) is able to make his next start, Gonsolin is a likely candidate to be bumped from the rotation once again.

Seth Lugo SP | KC
Mets' Seth Lugo: Fans seven in start
Lugo allowed one run on four hits and two walks over 3.2 innings Sunday, striking out seven in the loss to the Yankees in the second game of the doubleheader. He did not factor in the decision.
The Mets let Lugo throw 60 pitches Sunday, going well past his previous season-high of 39 pitches in his last outing. The lone run he allowed came from a solo shot by Tyler Wade in the third inning. Assuming he stays in the rotation, Lugo should face the Phillies at home next weekend.

Brandon Woodruff SP | MIL
Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Bit by long ball, takes loss
Woodruff (2-3) took the loss Sunday against the Pirates, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks across five innings. He struck out seven.
Woodruff allowed a solo homer to Gregory Polanco in the first and was later taken deep by Josh Bell for a two-run shot in the fourth. Although he was able to punch out seven, the right-hander will certainly be unhappy about yielding three free passes. The 27-year-old will take a 3.67 ERA into his start against the Indians next Sunday.

Sandy Alcantara SP | MIA
Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Struggles in return
Alcantara (1-1) allowed eight runs (five earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out two over four innings as he was charged with the loss Sunday against the Rays.
Alcantara was sidelined for the past month after testing positive for COVID-19 but returned to the mound against Tampa Bay. He was roughed up as the Rays tallied three runs in the first inning, and his start was relatively brief as Tampa Bay continued to drive up the score. As a result, Alcantara was charged with the loss. His next turn through the rotation should come at home Sunday against the Rays.

Chris Paddack RP | TEX
Padres' Chris Paddack: Strikes out eight in win
Paddack (3-3) allowed two unearned runs on five hits and a walk across six innings Sunday, striking out eight and earning the win over Colorado.
Paddack was dominant through five scoreless innings Sunday, racking up six strikeouts and allowing just two hits. He allowed two runs in the sixth after an error by Eric Hosmer with two outs. Fortunately for Paddack, his season ERA dropped to 4.43 because the runs were unearned. He'll take the mound in Oakland on Friday.

Johnny Cueto SP | LAA
Giants' Johnny Cueto: Strong in no-decision
Cueto allowed a run on three hits and three walks and struck out six over 6.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Cueto was excellent in the appearance, but a game-tying solo shot from Eduardo Escobar in the seventh inning took him out of the running for a win. The 34-year-old Cueto lowered his ERA to 4.75 with a 1.20 WHIP and 39 strikeouts through 41.2 innings this season. He'll look to build some positive momentum next Sunday in a rematch with these same Diamondbacks.

Trevor Rogers SP | BAL
Marlins' Trevor Rogers: Gets another turn in rotation
Rogers is slated to start Monday's game against the Mets.
Though the Marlins returned Sandy Alcantara from the COVID-19 injured list Sunday and could get two more starters in Jose Urena and Caleb Smith back this week, Rogers will be rewarded with a second turn through the rotation after a solid MLB debut. He tossed four scoreless frames in a no-decision against the Mets, working around one hit and five walks while striking out six. Rogers may need to do a better job of keeping his free passes in check if he hopes to earn any further turns through the rotation beyond Monday.

Eric Lauer SP | LAD
Brewers' Eric Lauer: Could start Monday
Lauer could be called up by the Brewers to start Monday's game against the Pirates, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Manager Craig Counsell said Sunday that the team will make a roster move to bring in Monday's starting pitcher, but he didn't reveal who the pitcher would be. Lauer is a strong candidate to rejoin the major-league club after spending just over two weeks at the Brewers' alternate training site. The southpaw struggled to generate much production during his two most recent starts prior to being sent down by Milwaukee.

Cole Hamels SP | SD
Braves' Cole Hamels: Completes bullpen session
Hamels (triceps) tossed a bullpen session Sunday, but he remains without a clear timeline for a return from the 45-day injured list, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
The side session was Hamels' second since he was shut down during summer camp with triceps tendinitis. The veteran southpaw was merely expected to be a back-end piece in the Atlanta rotation in 2020, but his potential late-September return looms larger these days with Mike Soroka (Achilles) done for the season and with the likes of Mike Foltynewicz, Sean Newcomb, Kyle Wright and Touki Toussaint having all flamed out as potential starting options.

Drew Smyly SP | CHC
Giants' Drew Smyly: Moves to next phase of rehab
Smyly (finger) is slated to report to the Giants' alternate training site in Sacramento on Tuesday to face hitters, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Jeff Samardzija (shoulder) is scheduled to do the same Tuesday, as the two starting pitchers remain on similar timelines to rejoin the active roster. Smyly received the green light to head to the alternate site after he completed a successful bullpen session Saturday, his second of the week. If Smyly fares well while facing hitters Tuesday, he could be a candidate to return from the 10-day injured list next weekend, when the Giants could require a replacement in the rotation for Trevor Cahill (hip).
