Eric Lauer SP | LAD
Brewers' Eric Lauer: Could start Monday
Lauer could be called up by the Brewers to start Monday's game against the Pirates, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Manager Craig Counsell said Sunday that the team will make a roster move to bring in Monday's starting pitcher, but he didn't reveal who the pitcher would be. Lauer is a strong candidate to rejoin the major-league club after spending just over two weeks at the Brewers' alternate training site. The southpaw struggled to generate much production during his two most recent starts prior to being sent down by Milwaukee.

Cole Hamels SP | SD
Braves' Cole Hamels: Completes bullpen session
Hamels (triceps) tossed a bullpen session Sunday, but he remains without a clear timeline for a return from the 45-day injured list, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
The side session was Hamels' second since he was shut down during summer camp with triceps tendinitis. The veteran southpaw was merely expected to be a back-end piece in the Atlanta rotation in 2020, but his potential late-September return looms larger these days with Mike Soroka (Achilles) done for the season and with the likes of Mike Foltynewicz, Sean Newcomb, Kyle Wright and Touki Toussaint having all flamed out as potential starting options.

Drew Smyly SP | CHC
Giants' Drew Smyly: Moves to next phase of rehab
Smyly (finger) is slated to report to the Giants' alternate training site in Sacramento on Tuesday to face hitters, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Jeff Samardzija (shoulder) is scheduled to do the same Tuesday, as the two starting pitchers remain on similar timelines to rejoin the active roster. Smyly received the green light to head to the alternate site after he completed a successful bullpen session Saturday, his second of the week. If Smyly fares well while facing hitters Tuesday, he could be a candidate to return from the 10-day injured list next weekend, when the Giants could require a replacement in the rotation for Trevor Cahill (hip).

Jose Quintana SP | COL
Cubs' Jose Quintana: Strikes out six in relief
Quintana pitched three innings of one-run ball in relief in Sunday's 10-1 win against the Reds. He allowed two hits and a walk while striking out six.
Quintana has now pitched exactly three innings in each of his two relief appearances this season, and he looked sharper Sunday, particularly with the six strikeouts. The lefty should reenter the rotation at some point, and that could happen Saturday when the Cubs play a doubleheader against the Cardinals. He could have an extended leash as a stater, particularly if the elbow injury Tyler Chatwood sustained while starting Sunday's game results in him getting shut down.

Walker Buehler SP | SD
Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Throws bullpen session
Buehler (hand) completed a 30-plus pitch bullpen session Saturday, Alanna Rizzo of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.
The 26-year-old landed on the injured list last week with a blister on his right hand, so the quick return to mound work is a good sign for his potential return. The Dodgers haven't indicated when Buehler is expected to be ready, but Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register speculates that the Dodgers could be targeting Thursday's series finale against the Diamondbacks for his return.

Huascar Ynoa SP | LAA
Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Not starting Sunday
Ynoa is no longer starting Sunday's game against the Phillies, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
The 22-year-old was previously named the starter for the series finale, but the Braves will instead turn to Tommy Milone, who was acquired Sunday morning from the Orioles. Ynoa seems likely to receive another starting chance at some point, but it's unclear when that may occur.

Tommy Milone SP | SEA
Braves' Tommy Milone: Starting Sunday for new team
Milone arrived in Philadelphia and will start Sunday night's game against the Phillies, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
The 33-year-old was acquired from the Orioles in the morning, and he'll start on regular rest Sunday night after meeting the team in Philadelphia. Milone had a 3.99 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 31:4 K:BB over 29.1 innings for the Orioles and should be a significant piece in the Braves' depleted rotation.

Tony Gonsolin RP | KC
Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Recalled for Sunday's start
Gonsolin was recalled from the Dodgers' alternate training site to start Sunday against the Rangers, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.
The 26-year-old will rejoin the starting rotation for Sunday's series finale after being sent down Aug. 19. Gonsolin was dominant in his first three starts, allowing only six hits with a 12:2 K:BB over 14.2 scoreless innings.

Steven Matz RP | TB
Mets' Steven Matz: Shifts to injured list
Matz (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday, Justin Toscano of The Bergen Record reports.
The 29-year-old exited Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader with left shoulder discomfort and will require at least 10 days to recover. It's unclear if Matz is expected to be healthy when eligible to be activated Sept. 9.

Sandy Alcantara SP | MIA
Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Activated for Sunday's start
Alcantara was activated from the COVID-19 injured list and will start Sunday against the Rays.
The 24-year-old was one of the 18 Marlins' players to test positive for COVID-19 and has been on the injured list for the past month, but he'll make his return to the mound Sunday. Alcantara's only appearance of the season was an Opening Day victory over the Phillies in which he allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks over 6.2 innings. The right-hander figures to have a restricted workload in his first start after the long layoff.
