  • Mitch Keller SP | PIT

Pirates' Mitch Keller: Pitches well in loss

Keller (1-5) allowed two runs on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts across five innings while taking a loss against the Mariners on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old has been very inconsistent this season, but obviously, this was one of his better starts. Unfortunately, the Pirates didn't support him with any runs, so it still led to a loss. Keller improved his numbers, but they still look bad -- 7.74 ERA, 1.84 WHIP, .351 batting average against. The one thing he has been able to supply is strikeouts, with 58 in 43 frames. Keller will make his next start at the Brewers on Sunday.

  • Logan Webb SP | SF

    Giants' Logan Webb: Takes no-decision

Webb allowed three earned runs on three hits and four walks while striking out three across five innings Tuesday against the Red Sox. He did not factor into the decision.

Webb pitched well for four innings, but unraveled a bit late in his start. The trouble began in the fifth frame, when he allowed a solo home run to Jackie Bradley. He then went back out to begin the sixth inning but was pulled after allowing a leadoff triple. All told, this was one of Webb's more effective starts, though his 6.75 ERA and 1.76 WHIP make clear his prior lack of effectiveness. He'll look to build on this performance in his next outing, currently scheduled for Sunday at Atlanta.

  • Dallas Keuchel SP | MIL

Braves' Dallas Keuchel: Surrenders five earned runs

Keuchel (8-6) allowed five earned runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out two across five innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Phillies.

Keuchel surrendered a pair of two-run home runs, accounting for all but one of his earned runs on the day. He lacked elusiveness, generating just eight swinging strikes on 95 total pitches. Keuchel had pitched well entering Tuesday's contest, having allowed two or fewer earned runs in six consecutive starts. Even with the rough outing, his ERA remains at 3.63 ERA through 101.2 innings. He'll try to get back on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for Sunday against San Francisco.

  • Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Won't start in postseason

Stripling was ruled out as a postseason starter by manager Dave Roberts on Tuesday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

The decision helps explain why Stripling was shifted to a bulk-relief role Tuesday after originally being listed as a starter against the Rays. Stripling is likely to be used in a similar manner for the remainder of the regular season as the Dodgers look to prepare him for the playoffs. Should the team require a fourth starter in the postseason, they could turn to Rich Hill (knee) -- though his health remains a significant question mark -- or opt for what Roberts described as a "cloudy" and "unconventional" approach.

  • Phillies' Vince Velasquez: Earns win

Velasquez (5-5) allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out eight across five innings to earn the win Tuesday against Atlanta.

Velasquez began the game on a rocky note, allowing both of his earned runs to cross the plate in the first frame. However, he allowed just three baserunners across his next four innings of work to tame the Braves' bats. While this outing showed plenty of potential, Velasquez has worked five innings in just two of his last five starts. He'll have the chance to replicate his success in his next start, currently scheduled for Sunday at Cleveland.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Cubs' Yu Darvish: Strikes out 13 but takes loss

Darvish (6-7) allowed four runs over seven innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Reds. He gave up six hits and a walk while striking out 13.

Darvish perhaps deserved a better fate on a night in which he had dominant stuff, but he allowed three runs in the first inning and then was outdueled by Cincinnati starter Sonny Gray, who combined with two relievers to hold the Cubs to two runs. Darvish has now struck out 27 batters across 13 innings in his last two starts. He'll look to keep mowing batters down in a pivotal matchup Sunday against the division-leading Cardinals.

  • Chris Paddack RP | TEX

Padres' Chris Paddack: Finishes rookie season in style

Paddack will not make another start this season, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. He gave up one run on one hit and one walk while striking out nine Tuesday against the Brewers but did not factor in the decision.

He pitched well enough to get the win in his final start, but Lorenzo Cain hit a solo home run on the lone hit Paddack surrendered. The Padres played it safe with their young ace, limiting him to 84 pitches (54 strikes) even though he was in complete control through the fifth inning. The only thing standing in the way of Paddack being a true ace going forward is a reliable third pitch, but he is just 23 years old, so it's unfair to say he's a finished product. If he comes back next year with a quality breaking ball, Paddack could emerge as one of the best starters in the game.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Dodgers' Rich Hill: No structural damage

Hill's MRI on his left knee did not reveal any structural damage and it will be a matter of pain tolerance going forward, Alanna Rizzo of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

He threw a bullpen session Tuesday after getting the results of his MRI. Hill is trying to return before the end of the season in an attempt to win a spot on the playoff roster.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Dodgers' Rich Hill: Throws off mound Tuesday

Hill (knee) was spotted throwing off the bullpen mound Tuesday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Hill tested out his knee during Tuesday's bullpen session, as despite suffering a left MCL strain, he has his sights set on pitching again this season. The next step in his rehab should be determined after his latest throwing session.

  • Kyle Freeland SP | COL

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Tosses sim game

Freeland (groin) threw a simulated game Tuesday and is nearing a return from the 10-day injured list, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports.

Freeland was placed on the injured list Aug. 22 due to a left groin strain, but he's expected to return before the season comes to an end. The Rockies are hopeful to get him two starts of 2-to-3 innings each during the final few weeks of the 2019 campaign.
