  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Turns in dominant effort

Corbin (1-0) allowed one earned run on two hits and one walk while striking out nine across 7.2 innings to earn the win Thursday against the Giants.

Corbin was dominant as he didn't allow a baserunner until the fourth inning and limited the Giants to just one extra-base hit. He also continued to showcase his ability to generate strikeouts, recording his third consecutive start with nine or more punchouts. Though this was his first win of the season, Corbin has deserved better, posting a 2.36 ERA and 0.90 WHIP across 26.2 innings.

  • Kenta Maeda SP | NYY

Dodgers' Kenta Maeda: Denied two-start week

Maeda is expected to make his next start April 23 in the Dodgers' series opener against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

After limiting the Reds to one run over 6.2 innings in Tuesday's win, Maeda looked on track to receive his second start of the week Sunday in Milwaukee. Instead, Maeda is now set to receive two extra days of rest between outings, as the Dodgers will add the injured Hyun-Jin Ryu (groin) back into the rotation Saturday before breaking for an off-day Monday. While it may be a frustrating development for fantasy managers who planned on Maeda getting a two step this week, they can at least take solace in the fact that the right-hander will keep his spot in the rotation when Rich Hill (knee) likely returns from the injured list next week, plus Maeda could see two starts next week. Manager Dave Roberts already said Ross Stripling will move to the bullpen once Hill is ready to go.

  • Mike Soroka SP | ARI

Braves' Mike Soroka: Reaches 85 pitches

Soroka (0-1) allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out six across five innings to take the loss Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

Soroka made his 2019 debut with the Braves Thursday and put together a strong performance, allowing his only run in the first inning. He racked up 13 swinging strikes on 85 total pitches and had his fastball averaging 94 mph and touching 96 mph, up from his marks last season. While the Braves will almost certainly continue to manage his innings, it was an encouraging first start for the 21-year-old.

  • Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Set to rejoin rotation over weekend

Ryu (groin) will start Saturday at the Brewers, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Ryu, who has been on the shelf since April 9 with a groin injury, has been cleared to rejoin the rotation after completing a 40-pitch side session with no issues Monday. His return will push Julio Urias to the bullpen, while it will also allow the Dodgers to afford the rest of their rotation an extra day of rest. Prior to landing on the shelf, Ryu compiled a 3.07 ERA, 0.89 WHIp and 14:1 K:BB in 14.1 innings (three starts).

  • Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Pushed back one day

Kershaw will start Sunday against the Brewers, Pedro Moura of The Athletic reports.

Kershaw was initially scheduled to start Saturday, but with Hyun-jin Ryu (groin) scheduled to make his return from injury, Kershaw's start will now be pushed back to Sunday. The veteran ace looked good in his season debut Monday, giving up two earned over seven innings with six strikeouts.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Dodgers' Rich Hill: Will make another rehab start

Hill (knee) will make one more rehab start before returning to the big-league rotation, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

The left-hander was lights-out in his outing for High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday, giving up just two hits while striking out eight in four innings, but he'll get one more start in the minors as he works his way back from his knee strain. Per Gurnick, the team hasn't determined where Hill will make that start, but it will likely take place Monday.

  • Edward Cabrera SP | CHC

Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Out with back injury

Cabrera landed on High-A Jupiter's 7-day injured list Tuesday due to an upper-back issue, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

The Marlins believe the injury will only force Cabrera to miss one start, so the brief shutdown shouldn't be viewed as a big deal for a pitcher whose innings count was always going to be monitored carefully this season anyway. Cabrera has already made two starts for Jupiter this season, holding opposing batters to a .171 average while posting a 12:6 K:BB in 10.1 innings.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Dodgers' Rich Hill: Dominant in rehab start

Hill (knee) tossed four scoreless frames (54 pitches) in his rehab start Wednesday for High-A Rancho Cucamonga. He gave up two hits and issued no walks while striking out eight.

Per Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times, a scout in attendance for the outing noted that Hill was in "vintage" form, sporting a plus curveball and a fastball that topped out at 92 miles per hour. The Dodgers haven't confirmed Hill's next step, but the lefty told Jim Alexander of The Riverside Press-Enterprise after the outing that he feels "extremely ready" to make his next start with the big club. If the Dodgers feel the same way, Hill would likely enter the rotation next week during the team's three-game series with the Cubs, bumping Ross Stripling to the bullpen in the process.

  • Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Role for weekend series uncertain

Though Ryu (groin) appears ready to return from the 10-day injured list, he's uncertain to enter the rotation during the Dodgers' four-game series with the Brewers that begins Thursday. The Dodgers currently list Julio Urias, Ross Stripling, Clayton Kershaw and Kenta Maeda as their probable starters for the series.

After Ryu completed a 40-pitch side session Monday without incident, manager Dave Roberts declared the lefty ready to return from the IL and said he would replace Julio Urias as the team's fifth starter once formally activated. Urias has already been confirmed to make one final start Thursday before he heads to the bullpen, and it's not a given that the Dodgers will push back any of their other rotation members over the weekend to facilitate the addition of Ryu. Since Stripling, Kershaw and Maeda are all coming off strong outings, Roberts may be motivated to keep all three on their normal schedules. If that's the case, Ryu would likely be available only as a reliever if he's activated this weekend before he presumably rejoins the rotation during the three-game series with the Cubs that begins April 23. Expect the Dodgers to provide more clarity about their rotation plans following Thursday's contest.

  • Sixto Sanchez SP | MIA

Marlins' Sixto Sanchez: Debuting May 2 at Jacksonville

Sanchez is scheduled to make his first start of the season for Double-A Jacksonville on May 2, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

The Marlins had hoped that Sanchez would be ready to join the Jacksonville rotation by the end of the month, but they ended up pushing his 2019 debut back a week in order for him to get in an extra tuneup outing at extended spring training. Sanchez hasn't experienced any physical issues since reporting to camp and has stayed behind at the Marlins' spring facility merely to conserve innings.
