  • Joey Lucchesi RP | LAA

Padres' Joey Lucchesi: Struggles in loss

Lucchesi (6-7) was charged with the loss after giving up five runs on nine hits while walking three and striking out six over four innings against the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Lucchesi didn't have his best stuff on the mound, and Arizona's powerful lineup made him pay for his shortcomings. The silver lining for the rookie's fantasy owners were the six punchouts, upping his season ratio to 9.6 K/9 over 92.2 innings. Things don't get easier for Lucchesi in his next start, as he is scheduled to face the Rockies at Coors Field next Thursday.

  • Robbie Ray SP | SD

Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Walks five Padres

Ray didn't factor into the decision against San Diego on Friday, giving up three earned runs on two hits over 4.1 innings, striking out three and walking five in Arizona's 9-4 victory.

Ray struggled with his command in issuing the five free passes in this contest, something that has been a theme for him for much of the season and he's now walked at least four in three of his last four starts. He's shown flashes of the form that saw him post a 2.89 ERA over 28 starts last season, but Ray just can't seem to find a consistent rhythm in 2018, as he's sporting a 4.91 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP through 80.2 innings.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Cruises to win against Mariners

Buehler (6-4) got the win against the Mariners on Friday, giving up just one earned run on three hits over six innings, striking out eight and walking two in the Dodgers' 11-1 blowout victory.

It was smooth sailing for Buehler, as he cruised to his sixth victory of the season thanks to another strong outing and a lot of run support from his offense. He's righted the ship after giving up five earned in a loss to the Phillies on July 25, as Buehler now hasn't given up more than two earned in any of his four starts since that outing. All told, the rookie is now sporting a solid 3.19 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP to go along with a 93:21 K:BB over 87.1 innings this season.

  • Pirates' Trevor Williams: Tough-luck loser against Cubs

Williams (10-9) took the loss Friday as the Pirates fell 1-0 to the Cubs, giving up one run on four hits and two walks over seven innings while striking out four.

The right-hander continued his excellent run, even if he wasn't rewarded for his efforts in this one -- Williams now has a 0.75 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over his last six starts, although his 18:11 K:BB during that stretch indicates how narrow his margin for error has been. He'll try to stay locked in when he next takes the mound Wednesday at home against the Braves.

  • Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Falls to 5-4

Peralta (5-4) got the loss against the Cardinals on Friday, giving up three earned runs on three hits over six innings, striking out five and walking three in the Brewers' 5-2 defeat.

Peralta bounced back with a quality start after getting lit up by the Braves for seven earned his last time out, but he still picked up his second straight defeat as the Cardinals got to Jordan Lyles for a pair of runs after he exited the contest. His 4.48 is a bit bloated in large part thanks to that rough outing against Atlanta, but the rest of his numbers through 62.1 innings look strong, as he's sporting a 1.17 WHIP to go along with 79 strikeouts and he's also holding opponents to a minuscule .171 batting average. He'll look to get back in the win column against the Reds at home on Wednesday.

  • Jack Flaherty SP | DET

Cardinals' Jack Flaherty: Fires six scoreless in win

Flaherty (7-6) picked up the win against the Brewers on Friday, tossing six scoreless innings, while scattering three hits, striking out seven and walking three in the Cardinals' eventual 5-2 victory.

The 22-year-old continues to impress, as this marked the second time in his last three starts he's gone six scoreless, bringing his ERA down to 3.05 and his WHIP to 1.08 through 109.1 innings. He's also struck out 134 batters over that time, so he's been providing excellent value in that department as well in what has been an all around stellar rookie campaign to this point. He's scheduled to take the mound next on the road against the Dodgers on Wednesday.

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Cubs' Cole Hamels: Shuts down Bucs in win

Hamels (8-9) picked up the win in Friday's 1-0 victory over the Pirates, allowing five hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings while striking out three.

The veteran southpaw was sharp, but he also benefited from some airtight defense -- the Cubs turned five double plays behind him en route to tying the major-league record with seven DPs in a nine-inning contest. Hamels has been brilliant since the trade that sent him north, giving up only two runs in 25 innings over four starts with a 23:6 K:BB, and he'll look to keep rolling in his next outing Thursday at home against the Reds.

  • Kyle Freeland SP | COL

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Fans nine in win over Braves

Freeland (11-7) picked up the win in Friday's 11-5 victory over the Braves, allowing one run on three hits and four walks over six innings while striking out nine.

The southpaw fought his control, throwing only 59 of 98 pitches for strikes, but Freeland limited the damage against him and got some timely punchouts. He's now provided quality starts in four of his last five outings, and his two biggest strikeouts totals of the season have come in his last two starts after he fanned 10 Dodgers his last time out. Freeland will carry a 2.96 ERA into his next start Thursday at home against the Padres.

  • Reds' Anthony DeSclafani: No-decision despite strong outing against Giants

DeSclafani didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 2-1 extra-innings win over the Giants, allowing one run on six hits and a walk over 7.2 innings while striking out five.

The right-hander threw 100 pitches (66 strikes) while recording his third straight quality start and fifth of the season. DeSclafani finally appears 100 percent healthy after missing all of 2017 with elbow trouble and battling an oblique issue earlier this year, and he'll carry a 4.12 ERA into his next start Thursday on the road against the Cubs.

  • Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Surrenders four in loss to Phillies

Syndergaard (8-3) allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five across 5.2 innings as he took the loss Friday against Philadelphia.

Syndergaard gave up three runs in the first inning and one in the fourth prior to exiting the game with a three-run deficit. He tossed a season-high 115 pitches, 71 for strikes. Prior to Friday's outing, the 25-year-old right-hander had recorded two straight wins despite surrendering seven runs over 13.1 frames while fanning 13. Syndergaard will look to turn in a better outing his next time through the rotation, which figures to come Wednesday against San Francisco.
