  • Pirates' Jameson Taillon: Strong effort in loss to Cleveland

Taillon (7-8) took the loss Wednesday, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk over seven innings while striking out five as Cleveland downed the Pirates 4-0.

The right-hander was good, but Trevor Bauer was better. Taillon has now given up three earned runs or fewer in 11 straight starts, posting a 3.09 ERA over that stretch. He'll look to continue his strong run Tuesday at home against the Cubs.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Roughed up by Phillies

Buehler (4-3) took the loss Wednesday, surrendering five runs on five hits and a walk over 4.2 innings while striking out five as the Dodgers fell 7-3 to the Phillies.

The rookie got taken deep twice, continuing a trend that's seen Buehler serve up five homers in his last 10.2 big-league innings. He still has a respectable 3.92 ERA on the year, but he'll need to find a way to keep the ball in the park in his next outing Tuesday at home against the Brewers.

  • Jack Flaherty SP | DET

Cardinals' Jack Flaherty: Strikes out eight in loss to Reds

Flaherty (4-5) took the loss Wednesday, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over five innings while striking out eight as the Cardinals fell 7-3 to the Reds.

The right-hander continues to have trouble keeping the ball in the park, giving up two more homers to boost his HR/9 on the season to 1.4. Despite that, Flaherty will carry a still-solid 3.28 ERA into his next outing Tuesday at home against the Rockies.

  • Jon Gray SP | TEX

Rockies' Jon Gray: Dazzles in no-decision

Gray allowed two runs (one earned) on two walks and a hit while striking out six over seven innings in Wednesday's win over the Astros. He did not factor into the decision.

Gray was terrific in this one, as the only hit he allowed was a Jose Altuve double in the fourth inning. An error and a catchers interference in the frame led to a pair of runs coming around to score, and the Colorado bats didn't provide much in the way of run support. Nevertheless, it was another very sharp outing for the 26-year-old and it appears his brief demotion back to the minors has had the intended effect. In two starts since being called back up, Gray has allowed just two earned runs with 12 strikeouts versus three walks over 14.1 innings. He'll take a 5.16 ERA into Tuesday's clash against the Cardinals.

  • Robbie Ray SP | SD

Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Strong showing but no decision

Ray threw seven strong innings Wednesday against the Cubs, allowing just a single run on four hits and a walk while striking out six. He did not factor into the decision.

Ray looked good throughout the game, facing the minimum in five of his seven frames. It was easily one of the best performances of the season for the lefty and the first time he'd thrown more than six innings this year. He still has a 4.90 ERA overall, though his strikeout rate has remained strong, giving fantasy owners some value while they wait for his ERA to come down. Ray will hope to continue his momentum Monday against the Rangers.

  • Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Gives up seven runs in loss

Peralta (4-2) allowed seven runs on four hits -- including two home runs -- over six innings in a loss to the Nationals on Wednesday. He struck out seven and issued four walks.

The right-hander was erratic out of the gates, starting his day: walk, flyout, strikeout, HBP, walk, single, wild pitch. He was perfect in the second, third and fourth innings but then ran into trouble again late, giving up homers to Bryce Harper and Juan Soto. Peralta now has 22 walks in 43.1 innings with the big club this year, but he figures to remain in the rotation with Zach Davies suffering another setback with his shoulder, and this kind of strikeout upside is not easy to find on the waiver wire. He lines up for two starts next week (at LAD, vs. COL).

  • Corbin Burnes SP | ARI

Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Will remain in bullpen

Manager Craig Counsell reiterated Wednesday that the Brewers are not considering moving Burnes into the starting rotation with the big club, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Burnes has been lights-out as a reliever at the big-league level and is the Brewers' first or second best pitching prospect, so with news coming out Wednesday that Zach Davies (back) suffered a setback in his rehab, it was natural to wonder if Burnes would get a shot to join the Brewers' rotation. However, Counsell and GM David Stearns are never ones to panic, and they will stick to their plan to use Burnes as a reliever the rest of the way. Things could always change before the season ends, but it's more likely the Brewers address their starting rotation via a trade than a change in philosophy with one of their top youngsters.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Cubs' Yu Darvish: Set for second mound session

Darvish (shoulder) will throw another bullpen session Friday in St. Louis, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

Darvish was able to toss a 16-pitch session Tuesday, which marked his first time back on a mound since experiencing pain in his shoulder in late June. Manager Joe Maddon added Wednesday that Darvish felt good following Tuesday's mound work, which prompted the team to set up another session for this upcoming weekend. Look for him to extend his pitch count in St. Louis, after which a simulated game or rehab assignment could be on the horizon.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Brewers' Zach Davies: Suffers another setback

Davis (shoulder) is again having back issues, and he'll undergo an MRI in the near future, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Davies had been slated for three rehab starts, but they'll be put on hold after the 25-year-old once again felt discomfort in his back. His back had tightened up during previous throwing sessions in July. Davis has been on the disabled list with inflammation in his throwing shoulder since June 1, and the timetable for his return has become murky following his most recent setback, although more news should become available after the results of his MRI are disclosed.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Cubs' Yu Darvish: Completes bullpen session

Darvish (shoulder, triceps) tossed a 16-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

The return to the mound reportedly went well for Darvish, who was shut down from throwing bullpen sessions in late June after developing a shoulder impingement while rehabbing his triceps injury. The Cubs have yet to decide the next step for Darvish, but he's likely at least two weeks away from returning from the 10-day disabled list even if he incurs no further setbacks in his recovery.
