  • Jose Urena SP | LAA

Marlins' Jose Urena: Sharp in no-decision

Urena struck out six and allowed just one run on three hits and two walks through six innings but was left with a no-decision Wednesday against San Diego.

Urena had four different pitches working magic Wednesday night, as he induced at least two swinging strikes each on his four-seamer, two-seamer, changeup and slider, all while throwing each one for strikes a majority of the time. Urena's velocity, which peaked at 98.0 mph, will always be the main attraction, but when he has multiple pitches to throw different angles and speeds at hitters from both sides of the plate, that 98 feels even faster. Urena may still own an ugly 0-7 record, but has pitched well enough to earn a continued shot in the Marlins' rotation, and he has the stuff to warrant keeping an eye on him as the season progresses.

  • Jon Gray SP | TEX

Rockies' Jon Gray: Collapses in no-decision Wednesday

Gray lasted just 3.1 innings and allowed four runs on six hits and three walks despite five strikeouts in a no-decision Wednesday against the Giants.

Gray collapsed in the fourth inning, as he walked three batters interrupted only by a successful sacrifice bunt by Giants starter Derek Holland. His final line could have been much worse, as he left the bases loaded upon his departure, but Harrison Musgrave managed to induce a double play to get out of the jam. Gray has been struggling mightily of late, as he has allowed 22 runs over his past four starts and failed to complete the fourth inning twice. He'll try to turn things around Wednesday against the Reds.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Takes loss despite quality start Wednesday

Teheran (4-3) was tagged with the loss Wednesday as the Braves fell 4-1 to the Mets, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks over seven innings while striking out three.

The right-hander threw 61 of 104 pitches for strikes in recording his seventh quality start of the season. Teheran will carry a 4.03 ERA into his next outing Monday in San Diego.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Pirates' Joe Musgrove: Stingy in Wednesday's win

Musgrove (2-0) picked up the win in Wednesday's 2-1 victory over the Cubs, allowing one run on seven hits and four walks over seven innings while striking out five.

While the right-hander wasn't quite as impressive as he was in his season debut, Musgrove quickly settled down after a rocky start to his night that saw him give up a run before he recorded an out, and then escape a bases-loaded jam with one gone in the first inning. Musgrove threw 65 of 100 pitches for strikes. His 0.64 ERA will be put to the test when he faces the Dodgers at home in his next outing.

  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Gives up two runs in Wednesday loss

Hendricks (4-4) took the loss Wednesday against the Pirates, allowing two earned runs over five innings of work. He gave up seven hits and a walk while striking out one.

Hendricks allowed a leadoff home run to Josh Harrison and another run in the second inning but settled down from there and pitched reasonably well, though the Cubs' offense offered little support in a 2-1 loss. The righty only threw 71 pitches before getting pulled for a pinch hitter, so he should be fairly fresh for his next start, which is scheduled for Tuesday against the Phillies. Hendricks will take a strong 3.19 ERA into that tilt.

  • Johnny Cueto SP | LAA

Giants' Johnny Cueto: Throws from 90 feet

Cueto (elbow) threw from 90 feet Wednesday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

This marks the first of many steps in Cueto's recovery process. He'll continue to build up his arm strength before progressing to bullpen sessions, live bullpen sessions and then ultimately a minor-league rehab stint. The veteran right-hander, who is on the 60-day disabled list with a right elbow sprain, won't be eligible to return until the end of June.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Diamondbacks' Patrick Corbin: Touched up for six runs

Corbin (5-2) took the loss Wednesday, allowing six runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out 10 over six innings against the Reds.

After being staked to an early 4-0 lead, Corbin was done in by the long ball. He yielded a game-tying grand slam in the fourth inning before surrendering a two-run shot in the sixth. Even with the rare bad outing, Corbin was able to pad his strikeout numbers and is now posting an 11.7 K/9 that ranks behind only Max Scherzer, Gerrit Cole and Chris Sale among qualified starters. He'll look to rebound Tuesday against the Giants.

  • Kenta Maeda SP | NYY

Dodgers' Kenta Maeda: Heads to DL

Maeda (hip) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday.

Maeda was removed from his start against the Phillies on Tuesday after just two innings with a right hip strain, and a subsequent MRI confirmed the issue to be serious enough to warrant a trip to the disabled list. According to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, manager Dave Roberts said the hope is that Maeda will only be forced to miss one start while on the shelf, though he won't be rushed back. Dennis Santana was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding roster move and is an option to start in Maeda's place over the weekend.

  • Jerad Eickhoff SP | PIT

Phillies' Jerad Eickhoff: Shifted to 60-day DL

Eickhoff (lat) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Wednesday.

This is simply procedural, as Eickhoff has already been sidelined for 60 days with a lat injury. He's scheduled to visit a thoracic outlet syndrome specialist in the near future, after which a possible timetable for his return will hopefully come into focus. The move opens up a spot on the Phillies' 40-man roster for Mitch Walding, whose contract was purchased in a corresponding roster move.

  • P.J. Conlon SP | NYM

Mets' P.J. Conlon: Designated for assignment

Conlon was designated for assignment by the Mets on Wednesday.

The Mets needed to open up a spot on their 40-man roster for the addition of Scott Copeland, whose contract was purchased from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, and Conlon was the corresponding roster casualty. Conlon made two starts for the big club this season, allowing seven runs on 12 hits and two walks across 5.2 innings. He'll report to the 51s if he passes through waivers untouched.
