  • Chris Flexen RP | CHC

Mets' Chris Flexen: Officially recalled ahead of start Thursday

Flexen has been officially recalled ahead of his start Thursday against the Padres.

He's been tabbed as the Mets' scheduled starter since Zack Wheeler (forearm) landed on the disabled list, but the Mets have now officially added him to the roster. Flexen will be making his major league debut after making the leap from Double-A. He posted a sterling 1.66 ERA and a 0.73 WHIP over 48.2 innings at Double-A Binghamton prior to being promoted.

  • Vance Worley SP | NYM

Marlins' Vance Worley: Takes mound Friday against Cincinnati

Worley will get the start for Friday's game against the Reds, Tim Healey of the Sun Sentinel reports.

Worley takes the place of Tom Koehler, who was demoted to Triple-A New Orleans after another rocky start during Sunday's loss. This marks Worley's fifth start of the season, and his first since June 9, when he allowed four runs in 3.2 innings. The right-hander has served in a limited role out of the bullpen lately, with his latest appearance coming Tuesday against the Rangers. Throughout the course of the 2017 campaign, Worley has posted a 6.37 ERA and 1.65 WHIP over 29.2 innings.

  • Braves' Touki Toussaint: Receives promotion to Double-A

Toussaint was called up to Double-A Mississippi on Thursday, Keith Law of ESPN reports.

Toussaint has been with High-A Florida since the beginning of this season, accumulating a 5.04 ERA and 1.36 WHIP over the course of 19 starts. During 105.1 innings the right-hander struck out 123 batters, but was plagued by a rough .349 BABIP, which resulted in a 3-9 record and a rocky ERA by his standards. The key for Toussaint has come with an improved sense of command, walking just 3.6 hitters per nine innings as opposed to the 4.8 BB/9 he posted last season with Low-A Rome, and he's been even better recently, striking out 19 without walking a batter in his final two starts for Florida before his promotion. He will still have to continue to work on diminishing his walk rate with Mississippi, but his propensity to amass strikeouts gives the 21-year-old plenty of upside moving forward.

  • Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: Set to throw simulated game

Strasburg (elbow) will continue throwing during his time on the disabled list, and is set to compete in a simulated game within the next week to determine whether he will be able to make his next scheduled start once he's eligible to return, Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports.

Strasburg was placed on the DL with right elbow nerve impingement retroactive to July 24, making him available to return Aug. 4 at Wrigley Field. If Strasburg doesn't provide encouraging results during his "serious" bullpen session, manager Dusty Baker stated that the team will skip him in the rotation. In the short term, Erick Fedde is set to toe the rubber against the Rockies on Saturday, in Strasburg's place.

  • Sammy Solis SP | SD

Nationals' Sammy Solis: Recalled in temporary move

Solis was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com reports.

Solis will take the roster spot of Stephen Strasburg (elbow), who was placed on the disabled list in a corresponding move. The stay of Solis in the majors is only expected to last for two days, as he'll be sent back down to clear a roster spot when the team needs to recall Erick Fedde for Saturday's start.

  • Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: Officially placed on DL

Strasburg has been placed on the 10-day DL with what the team is referring to as a "right elbow nerve impingement," Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com reports.

It was announced Wednesday night that it was the team's intention to move Strasburg to the disabled list, and they followed through with it Thursday morning. The bigger development here is that manager Dusty Baker previously indicated that it was a nerve impingement in Strasburg's forearm, but the team's release today suggests the elbow is involved as well. It remains to be seen if the plan to only miss one start will hold up, but in the meantime, Erick Fedde will take Strasburg's rotation spot, starting Saturday when the team hosts the Rockies. The DL move will be retroactive to July 24.

  • Steven Matz RP | TB

Mets' Steven Matz: Pummeled by Padres on Wednesday

Matz (2-4) surrendered six runs on nine hits over three innings in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Padres. He struck out four.

The southpaw lasted just 66 pitches (46 strikes) before getting the hook, as five of San Diego's nine hits off him went for extra bases. After posting a 2.12 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in his first five starts of the year, Matz has completely regressed and been tagged with a 14.18 ERA and 2.70 WHIP over his last four outings. His 12:2 K:BB in 13.1 innings over that stretch offers a glimmer of hope that he can turn things around, but with his next trip to the mound coming Tuesday at Coors Field, he should be nowhere near an active fantasy roster right now.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Carried to win by offense Wednesday

Martinez (7-8) allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings in Wednesday's 10-5 win over the Rockies. He struck out eight.

July has been a tough month for the right-hander, as Martinez posted a 5.90 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, 2.2 HR/9 and 23:11 K:BB in 29 innings over five starts. He'll look for a fresh start in August in his next outing Tuesday on the road against the Brewers.

  • Jose Urena SP | LAA

Marlins' Jose Urena: Nabs ninth win Wednesday

Urena (9-4) allowed five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out four batters through five innings during Wednesday's win over Texas.

The move to the rotation has gone smoothly for Urena. He's now pitched at least five innings in 14 of his first 16 starts and owns a respectable 4.04 ERA, 1.28 WHIP. Gamers would love to see his pitch arsenal -- which includes a mid-90s fastball -- translate into more strikeouts. However, Urena should remain a serviceable end-of-the-rotation arm in the majority of fantasy settings. He projects to face the Nationals at Marlins Park in his next start.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Six dominant frames in rout of Astros

Nola (8-6) struck out a career-high 10 while allowing just four hits and a walk over six scoreless frames in a 9-0 win over Houston on Wednesday.

He picked an awfully tough opponent for his first-ever double-digit-whiff game and just his second scoreless outing of 2017. Of course, that makes it all the more impressive, as Nola has rapidly developed into one of the league's better starters this year. He's not quite elite, but it's hard to imagine a fantasy format where his 3.17 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 9.7 K/9 wouldn't come in handy.
