Mize was placed on the injured list Saturday due to a left hamstring strain, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Mize will hit the shelf just two days after a dominant outing against the Rockies in which he allowed one earned run while striking out eight across six innings. According to Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic, Mize felt a sensation in his left hamstring late in the outing that was originally attributed to dehydration, but follow-up tests revealed what the Tigers are calling a "mild" strain. The Tigers haven't announced an immediate replacement in the rotation for Mize, though Keider Montero will likely be called up from Triple-A Toledo to replace him when a fifth starter is needed.

Snell (shoulder) is expected to play catch Sunday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Snell was previously expected to resume throwing Friday, but manager Dave Roberts indicated that the hurler came down with an illness that "set him back a couple days." Snell hasn't thrown at all since late April and received a cortisone injection in the hope that it would help with the inflammation in his left shoulder. The left-handed pitcher is likely at least several weeks away from returning to the Dodgers' rotation.

The Cubs selected Horton's contract from Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Although Brad Keller is listed as the starter for Saturday's contest against the Mets, Horton is still expected to make his MLB debut during the game -- likely as a bulk reliever. The 23-year-old righty has dazzled to the tune of a 1.24 ERA and a 33:13 K:BB across 29 innings in Triple-A this year, and he could make a case to remain on the big-league roster even once Shota Imanaga (hamstring) returns with a few strong performances. To clear roster space for Horton, Tom Cosgrove was optioned to Iowa, and Eli Morgan (elbow) was moved to the 60-day IL.

Darvish (elbow) threw three innings in a simulated game Thursday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Darvish threw 48 pitches during the session at the Padres' spring complex in Arizona. It was the first time the veteran hurler has thrown to hitters since his second start of spring training, after which he was diagnosed with right elbow inflammation. Padres manager Mike Shildt declined to give a timeline for Darvish's return but stated that the right-handed starter is "definitely getting closer" and suggested that he could be activated off the IL without significant buildup, stating, "I think we're going to trust a guy that's got 200 professional wins and 3,000 strikeouts." It's possible that Darvish could return to San Diego's rotation before the end of May, but if he does get the go-ahead that soon, he'd likely be on a somewhat limited pitch count in his initial outings.

The Diamondbacks optioned Mena to Triple-A Reno on Saturday.

Mena made his season debut Friday, striking out five batters across 3.2 shutout innings. He'll now be sent back to Triple-A in favor of Joe Mantiply, but Mena's strong outing could keep him in consideration for another promotion later in the season.

Martinez (1-4) was saddled with the loss after giving up three earned runs on 10 hits while striking out five batters in six innings Friday against the Astros. He did not issue a walk.

It's somewhat impressive that Martinez was able to deliver a quality start despite allowing 10 base hits, but a lack of run support from the Reds' bats led to the 34-year-old taking his fourth loss in eight starts this year. The good news is that he'll have a strong chance to bounce back in his next start while facing a White Sox team that ranks last in the majors with a .614 OPS.

White struck out eight and gave up two hits and two walks over five scoreless innings Friday for High-A Beloit.

The 20-year-old southpaw is the Marlins' top pitching prospect, and he's having little trouble getting whiffs against Midwest League hitters. White has fanned at least seven batters in three straight starts, and while he's also issued multiple walks in all six of his outings so far in 2025, he has yet to serve up a homer. The 35th overall pick in the 2023 First-year Player Draft has a 3.24 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 37:16 K:BB through 25 innings, and a promotion to Double-A could be in the cards this summer if he can tighten up his control just a touch.

Brown (6-1) earned the win Friday in a 3-0 win over the Reds, pitching 5.2 shutout innings while giving up two hits and four walks and striking out nine batters.

Although he fell just one out short of collecting his eighth consecutive quality start to begin the season, Brown still put on a brilliant performance Friday. He reached nine strikeouts for the fourth time in a row and allowed the Reds to put a runner in scoring position only twice. With five consecutive wins and a sparkling 1.48 ERA, Brown has plenty of momentum behind him heading into his next start -- tentatively scheduled to come against the Royals on Wednesday.

Meyer (2-4) took the loss in Friday's game against the White Sox after allowing five runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five batters in 6.1 innings.

Meyer squandered an early lead by allowing a solo home run to Andrew Vaughn and a Michael Taylor RBI double in the second inning, and the right-hander was chased in the seventh after giving up three additional runs to a Chicago lineup that averages just 3.4 runs per game. After starting the season with a 2.10 ERA through his first five starts, Meyer has now given up five earned runs in each of his last three outings, elevating his ERA to 4.37. He'll get another chance to turn things around next week while pitching at home against the Rays.

Dobbins didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 2-1 extra-inning loss to Kansas City, allowing five hits and striking out six batters over six scoreless innings. He did not issue a walk.

Dobbins nearly allowed the Royals to score in the fifth inning after allowing a one-out triple to Kyle Isbel, but a classic 6-2-5-4 double play in the following at-bat allowed the 25-year-old righty to remain blemish-free on the day. With a 2.78 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 22.2 innings through his first four starts, Dobbins has certainly performed well enough to deserve a spot in Boston's rotation, but whether he makes his next scheduled start against the Tigers on Wednesday will likely depend on the health of Walker Buehler (shoulder).
