Gray (elbow) struck out five over five innings while allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks in his rehab start Wednesday with Double-A Harrisburg.

After building up to 79 pitches in what was the third start of his rehab assignment, Gray looks to be on the cusp of making his return from the 15-day injured list. According to Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com, Gray reported back to Washington on Thursday and said he felt good following his latest rehab start, but the Nationals haven't yet decided whether he'll remain on assignment or rejoin the big-league rotation. If Washington chooses to activate Gray along with keeping a five-man rotation intact, the struggling Patrick Corbin could be sent to the bullpen to make room for the right-hander. Gray could be an option to start for the Nationals as soon as Monday in San Diego.

The Marlins list Luzardo (back) as their probable pitcher for Saturday's game against the Mariners, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Luzardo pitched with some back stiffness in his last outing in Sunday's loss to the Nationals, getting pulled after five innings and 77 pitches while displaying decreased velocity. He's evidently bounced back fine, though, and appears good to go this weekend for a matchup against Seattle at home.

Gibson said Thursday that he feels fine after being scratched from a scheduled start Wednesday in Miami due to back tightness, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

The pitcher even said he's hoping to pitch in relief Thursday against the Giants, although that seems unlikely. It's not clear when Gibson might make his next start, but it sounds like a stint on the injured list can safely be ruled out.

Corniell will undergo season-ending surgery to repair the UCL in his right elbow, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Corniell has been sidelined all season with an elbow issue. While his injury was initially referred to as inflammation when he went on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Frisco back in early April, subsequent testing revealed a more serious concern. It's not yet clear whether Corniell will have a full Tommy John surgery or internal brace procedure, but in either case he won't pitch again in 2024 and is likely to miss at least a large chunk, if not all, of the 2025 season.

Freeland (elbow) struck out four over four innings in his third rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Albuquerque, giving up two earned runs on two hits and four walks.

Freeland tossed four innings of one-run ball in his first rehab outing with Albuquerque on June 13, but he wasn't quite as sharp in his second turn through the Triple-A rotation, spotting 42 of his 67 pitches for strikes while walking four of the 18 batters he faced. Though Freeland looks to be stretched out to close to a traditional starter's workload, the Rockies may want the left-hander to raise his pitch count a bit more and show improved control in one more outing with Albuquerque before bringing him back from the 60-day injured list. The Rockies already seem to be ruling out Freeland for a return this weekend; the team is listing Dakota Hudson, Cal Quantrill and Austin Gomber as its starters for the series with the Nationals that runs Friday through Sunday, according to Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com.

Henry is slated to start Saturday's game against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.

Henry has already made six starts with Arizona this season, but his last two appearances with the big club following his June 9 call-up from Triple-A Reno have come as a primary pitcher out of the bullpen behind opening pitcher Scott McGough. Though Henry was roughed up for seven earned runs over 6.1 innings between those two relief outings, he'll get another turn through the rotation, this time as a traditional starter. Zac Gallen (hamstring) appears on track to return from the 15-day injured list by next weekend, so Henry will likely be on his way out of the rotation regardless of how he performs Saturday.

Gallen (hamstring) is scheduled to throw another simulated game early next week and could be reinstated from the 15-day injured list shortly thereafter, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

After tossing 31- and 37-pitch bullpen sessions last week, Gallen advanced to facing hitters in a simulated game Tuesday. Gallen's strained right hamstring apparently responded well to the workout, but the Diamondbacks will still have him toss another sim game during the upcoming week before signing off on his return to the rotation. If all goes well during his second sim game, Gallen could return at some point during the Diamondbacks' series in Oakland next weekend.

Gasser is mulling whether to have surgery on his left elbow after a third opinion concurred with the second that an operation is likely needed at some point, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Gasser is dealing with UCL damage in the elbow, and the Brewers are leaving the decision of surgery or rest and rehab up to the 25-year-old left-hander. He's been shut down from throwing for nearly three weeks already, so Gasser is facing a lengthy ramp-up even if he opts for the non-surgical route. If he decides to have surgery, Gasser would likely be sidelined for at least one year.

Corbin came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Diamondbacks, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out seven.

The veteran lefty established a season high in strikeouts despite tossing only 53 of 90 pitches for strikes, but Corbin left the mound with the Nats in a 1-0 hole before they took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning. He's given up three earned runs or less in four of his last five starts, and while his 4.23 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 23:11 K:BB through 27.2 innings over that stretch aren't particularly impressive, they represent a big improvement on his season-long numbers. Corbin will look for his first win since May 10 in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in San Diego.

Pfaadt (3-6) took the loss Wednesday, giving up three runs on five hits and four walks over 6.1 innings as the Diamondbacks fell 3-1 to the Nationals. He failed to strike out a batter.

To say the 25-year-old right-hander wasn't fooling anyone Wednesday would be an understatement. Pfaadt not only came up empty in strikeouts while issuing a season high in walks, he didn't generate a single swinging strike among his 77 pitches. He was still able to produce enough weak contact to deliver his second straight quality start and eighth of the season, however. Pfaadt will take a 4.37 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 84:22 K:BB through 90.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Twins.
