May (5-7) took the loss against the Diamondbacks on Saturday, allowing five runs on eight hits and four walks with six strikeouts over five innings.

May yielded runs in three separate frames, issuing four walks for the second straight contest while generating 10 swinging strikes on 98 pitches. It was the first time the 28-year-old completed five frames in five turns since tossing a complete-game shutout June 15, a stretch that has included three outings with five or more earned runs allowed. He'll carry a 4.78 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 95:32 K:BB across 98 innings this season into a home rematch with Arizona next week.

Eovaldi (illness) said Saturday that he is feeling significantly better, and the team believes he'll be ready to make his scheduled start Sunday against Atlanta, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Eovaldi picked up an illness during the All-Star break, but it no longer seems like he's at risk of missing any starts. The 36-year-old finished the first half by posting a 3.48 ERA and 1.16 WHIP across 31 innings covering his last five starts, reaching nine strikeouts four times and also collecting four wins in that span.

Luzardo (9-4) earned the win against the Mets on Saturday, allowing one run on two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over five innings.

Luzardo surrendered a solo homer during the second inning but otherwise kept the Mets off the board despite lacking his best stuff, throwing 54 of 90 pitches for strikes with 10 whiffs. The southpaw has yielded just seven earned runs over his past seven starts while going 5-0 with 63 punchouts during that stretch. He owns a 3.43 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 143:37 K:BB across 115.1 innings this season and lines up for a home matchup with the Yankees next weekend.

The Tigers reinstated Valdez from the bereavement list Saturday.

Valdez isn't lined up to take the mound until Detroit's next series against the Cubs, but he'll return to the team a few days ahead of time after moving to the bereavement list before the All-Star break. Beau Brieske was sent down to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Martin (9-5) took the loss against the Blue Jays on Saturday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out five across 5.2 innings.

Martin and Shane Bieber were locked in a pitcher's duel Saturday at Rogers Centre. Martin did everything he could, but the lone run he gave up -- a George Springer RBI single in the fourth frame -- turned out to be the difference in what ended as a 1-0 win for the Blue Jays. Martin was one out shy from logging his 11th quality start of the season, and he ended his day at 85 pitches (55 strikes) with 10 whiffs and five groundouts. He'll take a 3.31 ERA and 1.27 WHIP across 106 innings into his next start, which is lined up for next weekend at home against the Astros.

Bieber (1-1) earned the win against the White Sox on Saturday, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out six across six scoreless innings.

Saturday was a pitcher's duel between Bieber and Davis Martin, with the former coming away with the win. It was the best outing of the season for Bieber, who needed just 80 pitches (51 strikes) to get through six innings while generating 13 whiffs and eight groundouts. It was a welcome sign for the Blue Jays, especially with Max Scherzer (back/side/thumb) on the 15-day IL and the recent struggles of 23-year-old right-hander Trey Yesavage. Bieber's next start is tentatively slated for next week at home against the Rays.

Sugano (9-4) earned the win against the Reds on Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out three across 6.1 innings. He did not issue a walk.

Sugano was activated from the 15-day IL ahead of Saturday's start after recovering from back spasms that flared up in early July. There was less pressure on his shoulders after the Rockies' offense lit up Rhett Lowder for eight runs, and Sugano did his part by limiting the Reds to three runs, with two of those coming on a pair of solo homers by Jose Trevino. It was the fifth quality start of the season for Sugano, and he's now one win shy from matching his total in 2025 as a member of the Orioles. He'll take a 4.76 ERA and 1.29 WHIP across 90.2 innings into his next start, tentatively lined up for next weekend on the road against the Brewers.

Lowder (3-7) took the loss against the Rockies on Saturday, allowing eight runs on 11 hits while striking out two across 2.1 innings. He did not issue a walk.

Lowder was briefly shifted to the bullpen in early July, but coming out of the All-Star break, he was back in the rotation after Nick Lodolo (finger) was placed on the 15-day injured list this past Sunday. Lowder got off to a rough start to the second half of the season, giving up at least two runs in each of the three frames he pitched. The eight runs and 11 hits he surrendered Saturday both matched career highs set earlier in the year, and Lowder sits at a 5.75 ERA and 1.64 WHIP across 72 innings this season. Assuming he gets another turn in the rotation, Lowder is lined up to face the Cardinals on the road next weekend.

Weathers and the Yankees won't face the Dodgers on Saturday since the game was postponed due to rain.

Saturday's contest will be made up as part of a doubleheader Sunday, and Weathers will presumably start one of the two games. The 26-year-old southpaw currently holds a 4.15 ERA through his first 18 starts with the Pinstripes, but he's given up two earned runs or fewer in four of his last five outings.

Sheehan and the Dodgers won't face the Yankees on Saturday since the game was postponed due to rain.

The two teams will make up Saturday's contest with a doubleheader Sunday, and it's likely that Sheehan will get the nod to start one of the two games. The 26-year-old has struggled overall this year to the tune of a 4.81 ERA through 82.1 innings, though he's coughed up just five runs (four earned) while striking out 17 batters in 14.2 frames across his last three starts.
