Montero (0-1) took the loss in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader split with the Pirates, giving up four runs on five hits and a walk over 4.1 innings. He struck out five.

Making his MLB debut, Montero showed some flashes of upside but got hit hard when he left the ball up in the zone, serving up a three-run homer to Andrew McCutchen in the third inning and a solo shot to Nick Gonzales in the fourth. Montero got the hook after 87 pitches (56 strikes), and he'll likely head back to Triple-A Toledo following the twin bill. The 23-year-old righty will need to work on his efficiency if he wants to earn a longer look in the majors -- he has yet to complete five innings in any of his 10 starts this season, at any level.

Darvish was removed from his start Wednesday against the Marlins due to left hamstring tightness, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Darvish was pulled after three innings Wednesday, during which he allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk while striking out two batters. Manager Mike Shildt said the right-hander is undergoing imaging, and the Padres should offer an update on his status once the results come back.

Skubal (7-1) picked up the win in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader split with the Pirates, scattering three hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings. He struck out eight.

The southpaw was dominant once again, as he retired the last 10 batters he faced and didn't allow a Pittsburgh baserunner to get past second base. Skubal generated a whopping 36 called or swinging strikes among his 93 pitches as he produced his eighth quality start of the season, and he'll take a dazzling 2.01 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 80:11 K:BB through 67 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week against the Rangers.

Skenes (2-0) picked up the win in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader split with the Tigers, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out nine.

After the Pirates got blanked 8-0 by Tarik Skubal and the Tigers in the opener, Skenes made sure his squad wouldn't get swept as he generated 19 swinging strikes among his 96 pitches in a dominant performance. The rookie right-hander has reeled off three straight quality starts after lasting just four innings in his big-league debut May 11, and Skenes will carry a 2.45 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 30:5 K:BB through 22 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Dodgers.

Jones (3-5) took the loss in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader split with the Tigers, coughing up seven runs (five earned) on five hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out two.

The rookie right-hander didn't get much help from his defense, but he also didn't have his best stuff and failed to complete at least five innings for the first time this season. Jones' two strikeouts were also a season low, as he managed only four swinging strikes among his 83 pitches. The 22-year-old sports a 3.55 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 70:12 K:BB through his first 63.1 big-league innings. Jones will look to get back on track in his next start, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Dodgers.

Bassitt (neck) is listed as Toronto's probable starter for Sunday's game against the Pirates, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The veteran right-hander made an early exit from his start Monday against the White Sox after pitching through neck spasms for five scoreless innings. It doesn't appear to be an ongoing issue, and Bassitt will attempt to build on his scoreless-innings streak of 12 frames versus the Pirates.

Dunning (4-3) earned the win Wednesday over the Diamondbacks, allowing three hits and four walks over five scoreless innings. He struck out six.

Dunning had to contend with some traffic Wednesday, though he'd manage to keep Arizona off the board for five innings, earning his first win since April 28. It's an encouraging bounce-back effort from Dunning in his second start back from the IL -- he took the loss in his last outing against the Phillies, allowing five runs (three earned) in 3.1 innings. Overall, Dunning lowered his ERA to 3.94 with a 1.20 WHIP and 53:22 K:BB across nine starts (45.2 innings) this year. He's currently lined up for a home matchup with the Tigers in his next start.

Montas (2-4) took the loss Wednesday against the Cardinals, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out five.

Montas earned his first quality start in his last four outings, though he'd still wind up with the loss as the Reds couldn't break through on offense until the seventh inning. The 31-year-old Montas hasn't earned a win since April 3 after starting the year 2-0. His ERA sits at 4.60 with a 1.40 WHIP and 33:18 K:BB over 10 starts (47 innings) this season. Montas is currently slated for a road matchup with the Rockies in his next start early next week.

The Tigers recalled Montero from Triple-A Toledo ahead of his scheduled start in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Pirates.

Because they designated Montero as their 27th man for the twin bill, the Tigers waited until after their 8-0 win in the opening game of the day before activating him. The 23-year-old right-hander will make his MLB debut Wednesday before presumably heading back to Toledo immediately after the start. Over his nine outings with the Triple-A club this season spanning 30.2 innings, Montero has accrued a 4.40 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 36:17 K:BB.

The Mets reinstated Peterson (hip) from the 60-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday versus the Dodgers at Citi Field.

The Mets moved Adrian Houser to the bullpen over the weekend to make room in the rotation for Peterson, who will be making his 2024 debut for the big club after spending the first two months of the season on the IL while he completed his recovery from Nov. 6 surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left hip. Peterson exhibited few signs of rust during his lengthy rehab assignment, as he racked up 35 strikeouts against three walks while pitching to a 1.14 ERA over 23.2 innings across his six outings with Triple-A Syracuse, Double-A Binghamton and Single-A St. Lucie. Despite his success during the rehab assignment, fantasy managers may want to tread carefully with Peterson in his first start with the Mets since he'll be facing off against a Dodgers lineup that ranks second in baseball with a .333 wOBA.
