The Red Sox activated Pivetta (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Pivetta will rejoin the Red Sox's rotation Wednesday in Atlanta. The right-hander has been sidelined since April 9 with a right elbow flexor strain but was cleared to return after making one rehab start. He went just three innings and threw only 62 pitches in his lone rehab outing last Thursday, so Pivetta probably won't be asked to handle a full workload in his return to the big-league rotation.

Gray and the Cardinals won't play the Mets on Wednesday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

The game will be made up Aug. 5, which had been a mutual off day for the two clubs. As a result of the postponement, Gray is expected to be pushed back one day in the pitching schedule to start Thursday in Milwaukee.

Quintana and the Mets won't face the Cardinals on Wednesday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in St. Louis, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

The two teams will make up the game Aug. 5. Assuming Quintana wasn't too overtaxed from his warmup prior to Wednesday's game being postponed, he could have his next start pushed back to Friday's series opener versus Atlanta following Thursday's team off day.

The Rangers recalled Leiter from Triple-A Round Rock ahead of his scheduled start in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Athletics in Oakland.

Texas is designating Leiter as the 27th man for the twin bill, but he won't necessarily be heading back to Round Rock after making his second start of the season for the big club Wednesday. The Rangers surprisingly placed Dane Dunning (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday, meaning the team should have an opening in the rotation for a fifth starter heading into next week. Leiter was torched for seven runs in 3.2 innings in his MLB debut April 18 in Detroit, but he gets a favorable draw for his second start in a pitcher-friendly venue against a weak Oakland lineup.

The Rangers placed Dunning (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list with a right rotator cuff strain.

The roster move is retroactive to Sunday, one day after Dunning made his seventh start of the season while taking a no-decision against the Royals. The Rangers haven't indicated that Dunning sustained the injury at any point during that outing, but the right-hander's shoulder was evidently bothersome coming out of that start. Dunning is without a precise target date to return from the IL, though manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday that the 29-year-old isn't expected to have an especially lengthy stay on the shelf. While Dunning joins Nathan Eovaldi (groin), Max Scherzer (back), Cody Bradford (ribs), Jacob deGrom (elbow) and Tyler Mahle (elbow) on the shelf, the Rangers should have back-end rotation spots available for both Jose Urena and Jack Leiter.

Waldichuk (elbow) will visit with Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Monday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Waldichuk recently had a setback while throwing a live batting practice session. He was diagnosed last October with a UCL sprain and flexor strain but chose a more conservative Tenex procedure to remove scar tissue and help alleviate pain. More will be known after Monday's exam, but his upcoming meeting with Dr. ElAttrache would seem to suggest that Waldichuk's treatment plan hasn't panned out as anticipated.

The Reds transferred Williamson (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for first baseman/designated hitter Mike Ford, who signed a one-year deal with the Reds. Williamson will begin a rehab assignment Thursday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League as he works his way back from a left shoulder strain, but he'll need some time to get ramped back up. He won't be eligible for activation until late May as a result of his move to the 60-day IL.

Rangers general manager Chris Young said Wednesday that Scherzer (back) will remain shut down from throwing for the next few days due to a right thumb and forearm issue, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

Scherzer has been on the 15-day injured list all season while completing his recovery from Dec. 15 surgery to address a herniated disc in his back, but it's his pitching arm that has presented complications for him coming out of his first rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock back on April 24. Young said that Scherzer won't resume ramping up again until the tightness and discomfort in his arm completely subsides, so the veteran right-hander still looks to be multiple weeks away from being ready to return from the IL.

The Marlins reinstated Garrett (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Garrett isn't expected to make his season debut for the big club until Sunday versus Philadelphia, but he'll rejoin the Marlins a few days early after fellow starter Edward Cabrera (shoulder) was placed on the IL in a corresponding move. The 26-year-old southpaw opened the season on the shelf due to a left shoulder impingement and made two rehab starts before a brief shutdown period while he contended with a dead-arm phase. Garrett has bounced back well since resuming his rehab assignment April 26, compiling a 1.32 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 20:4 K:BB in 13.2 innings across three outings between Triple-A Jacksonville and the Marlins' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate. Garrett built up to 82 pitches in his latest rehab outing Monday and isn't expected to face any major workload restrictions when he debuts this weekend.

The Marlins placed Cabrera on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a right shoulder impingement.

Cabrera was removed after two innings during his start in Tuesday's 8-2 loss to the Dodgers with what was referred to as right biceps discomfort, but it's officially a shoulder impingement that will force him to the IL. It's the same injury that kept him out for the first few weeks of the season. Cabrera will be eligible to return from the IL later this month, but there's currently no timetable for the righty.
