Myers struck out a batter and allowed two hits and no walks over two scoreless innings of relief in Wednesday's 12-5 win over the Pirates.

After returning from Triple-A Nashville with a 3.1-inning start versus the Mariners on Aug. 9, Myers shifted to the bullpen this week. With Milwaukee building up a seven-run lead after seven innings during Wednesday's contest, Myers was called upon to finish out the contest and was able to deliver a couple of drama-free frames. The Brewers have a doubleheader on tap Monday against the Cubs and will need to add a temporary starter to the mix, but Myers may not necessarily be called upon to make a start for either contest of the twin bill. Instead, the Brewers may prefer to keep Myers in a multi-inning relief role and call up Chad Patrick from Triple-A Nashville on Monday to start one of the two contests while Freddy Peralta starts the other.

Manaea didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 11-9 loss to the Mariners, giving up four runs on six hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out seven.

The veteran southpaw may have been lucky to limit the damage as much as he did, as four of the six hits off him went for extra bases, including homers by Mitch Garver and Cal Raleigh, and Seattle wound up setting a club record with nine doubles on the night. After giving up a single run in four straight starts after making his season debut July 13, Manaea has crashed back to earth in a hurry, getting tagged for 13 runs in 14.2 innings over his last three outings, albeit with an encouraging 15:3 K:BB. He'll try to get back on track in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next week against the Nationals.

Means (elbow) allowed one hit and struck out three over 2.2 scoreless innings in a rehab start for High-A Lake County on Friday.

Means opened a rehab assignment Friday and threw 38 pitches (30 strikes), which got him close to the three innings the Guardians planned for him. Assuming the left-hander's rehab progresses well and he builds up innings, Means could be available to help Cleveland pursue a playoff spot in September.

Povich is set to pitch in bulk relief behind opening pitcher Rico Garcia in Saturday's game against the Astros in Houston, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

Garcia is unlikely to work more than an inning or two before giving way to Povich, who is slated to make his second relief appearance of the season. After being reinstated from the injured list Aug. 4, Povich pitched well in his first two turns through the Baltimore rotation, logging a 3.86 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 12:4 K:BB in 11.2 innings.

Castillo came away with a no-decision in Friday's 11-9 win over the Mets, surrendering six runs on nine hits -- including three home runs -- and a walk over four innings. He struck out five.

The ball was flying at Citi Field, as the Mariners set a club record with nine doubles, while the two teams combined for five total homers. Castillo did his part to add to the fireworks, serving up two longs balls to Francisco Lindor and another to Juan Soto. It's the second time this season he's been taken deep three times in the same game, but his 10.4 percent HR/FB rate on the season is actually his lowest mark since 2022. Castillo could have trouble keeping the ball in the park in his next start as well, which lines up to come on the road next week in Philadelphia.

Urena struck out three and allowed two hits and one walk over 5.2 scoreless innings of relief in Friday's 7-0 loss to the Tigers.

With the Twins trailing 6-0 with one out in the third inning and runners on second and third, Urena was called upon in relief of opening pitcher Pierson Ohl to put out the fire. Urena induced a sacrifice fly to allow one run to score, and then got Colt Keith to line out to end the frame. Urena proceeded to retire 14 of the next 17 batters he faced to save the Minnesota bullpen and perhaps set him up for another starting opportunity or bulk-relief appearance next week while the Twins continue to lean on a three-man rotation at the moment and fill in the gaps as needed until two of Pablo Lopez (shoulder), Simeon Woods Richardson (illness) or David Festa (shoulder) return from the injured list. Urena had previously made a three-inning start in his most recent appearance last Sunday versus the Royals before shifting to the bullpen.

Miley (forearm) allowed one run on one hit and two walks while striking out two over 1.2 innings in a rehab start at Double-A Chattanooga on Friday.

Miley began a rehab assignment, and the plan was for the lefty to throw two innings and 40 pitches -- he was removed one out short of that after 38 pitches. He will likely need another two rehab outings to get up to the five-inning/75-pitch range, which would seem to put him on a track to return in September. Miley's been on the injured list since the middle of June.

Giolito didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 2-1 win over the Marlins, allowing one run on seven hits and one walk over 6.1 innings. He struck out five.

After issuing a season-worst six free passes in his last outing Aug. 9, Giolito regained his control and tossed 63 of 92 pitches for strikes en route to his 12th quality start of the season, and his third in his last four trips to the mound. The right-hander has turned his season around after a rough beginning to his Boston tenure -- he held a 6.42 ERA on June 4, but in 12 starts since then he's delivered a 2.34 ERA, 1.07 WHIPP and 60:23 K:BB over 73 innings while going 7-1. Giolito will look to keep rolling in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Yankee Stadium.

Alcantara came away with a no-decision in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Red Sox, allowing one run on two hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out seven.

After coughing up 11 runs in 12 innings over his prior two outings, Alcantara rebounded to record his sixth quality start of the season on 86 pitches (65 strikes). It's been an uneven campaign for the right-hander in his return from Tommy John surgery, but in 30 innings over five starts since the All-Star break he's delivered a 3.60 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 24:9 K:BB, numbers more in line with his pre-injury form from 2023, if not quite at the level of his 2022 NL Cy Young season. Alcantara will look to stack another good performance in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home next week against the Cardinals.

McCullers (finger) allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out five across five innings in a rehab appearance with Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

McCullers threw 80 pitches while averaging 91.9 mph with his fastball. Prior to the outing, general manager Dana Brown said the Astros would have to decide whether McCullers needed an additional rehab start before being activated. While no official decision has been made, McCullers looks to have checked a lot of boxes with his outing Friday night.
