  • Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Takes third straight loss

Parker (7-13) took the loss Tuesday against the Royals, allowing five runs on two hits and three walks while striking out three in 5.1 innings.

Parker allowed five batters to reach and saw all five come in to score. He made one big mistake to Vinnie Pasquantino, who turned on an inside fastball for a three-run blast. Parker otherwise was able to induce weak contact and his box score looks far worse than his actual outing. Still, the left-hander has now given up 17 earned runs and four homers across his last three starts and lines up to complete a two-start week against the Phillies this weekend.

  • Cardinals' Matthew Liberatore: Tagged with 10th loss

Liberatore (6-10) took the loss against the Rockies on Tuesday, surrendering three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three over four innings .

The left-hander was sharp early, setting down the first nine batters he faced, but ran into trouble in the fourth when Hunter Goodman belted a two-run homer that put St. Louis behind for good. The outing marked the 25-year-old's fifth consecutive start in which he's failed to complete five innings, and the loss extended his skid to four straight decisions without a win. Liberatore is slated to take the mound again early next week against Miami carrying a 4.08 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 88:28 K:BB over 118.1 innings.

  • Freddy Peralta SP | NYM

Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Cruises past Pirates

Peralta (14-5) got the win over the Pirates on Tuesday, tossing six scoreless frames while allowing just three hits and a walk. He struck out seven.

Peralta outshined Paul Skenes in Tuesday's clash and was backed by the offense in a big way. Peralta struck out four through the first two innings and has struck out seven or more in five of his last seven outings. Peralta is putting together one of the best campaigns of his career and now sits at a 2.90 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 148:50 K:BB in 136.2 innings. He lines up to face the Cubs on the road to begin next week.

  • Paul Skenes P | PIT

Pirates' Paul Skenes: Chased early Tuesday

Skenes (7-9) took the loss Tuesday against the Brewers, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four in four innings.

Skenes began by allowing a leadoff home run to Sal Frelick and was taken yard a second time in the fourth by Brice Turang. Skenes required 93 pitches to complete four frames, marking only the second time this season he's failed to complete five innings, with both instances coming against Milwaukee. Despite giving up four runs in two of his last three starts, Skenes still sits pretty atop baseball with a 2.13 ERA and will look to bounce back next week at home against the Blue Jays.

  • Kyle Freeland SP | COL

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Blanks Cardinals during win

Freeland (3-12) picked up the win against the Cardinals on Tuesday, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out two in 7.1 scoreless innings.

The left-hander delivered arguably his best outing of the season Tuesday, throwing 93 pitches (62 strikes) and blanking the Cardinals over a season-high 7.1 innings. Despite the sharp performance, Freeland still sports a 5.18 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 80:30 K:BB through 116.1 innings. The veteran has now held opponents to two runs or fewer in three of his last five starts, but his track record suggests maintaining this form will be a challenge.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Builds up to 84 pitches Tuesday

Nola (ankle/rib) made his third rehab start for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out 11.

Perhaps more importantly than piling up 11 punchouts, Nola was able to stretch out to 84 pitches Tuesday in what may have been his final rehab outing before rejoining the Phillies. The veteran right-hander has worked to a 2.19 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 17:3 K:BB across 12.1 innings in the minor leagues. If Philadelphia decides Nola is ready to be activated from the injured list, he could start as soon as Sunday's series finale in Washington against the division-rival Nationals.

  • Ben Brown SP | CHC

Cubs' Ben Brown: Solid in relief Tuesday

Brown allowed one run on four hits and a walk across four innings of relief in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Blue Jays.

Brown was originally expected to start Tuesday's contest, but it was Javier Assad (oblique) who ended up with that honor in his season debut. Assad allowed four runs on eight hits in his four innings of work, with Brown looking sharper in long relief. Even with Brown turning in a good performance, his opportunity as a starter this year may have run its course, as Assad is now healthy and Jameson Taillon (calf) is expected back from the injured list soon. Brown will likely settle into a bullpen role with the Cubs getting healthier in their rotation.

  • Clay Holmes RP | NYM

Mets' Clay Holmes: Labors in no-decision

Holmes took a no-decision Tuesday against Atlanta, allowing five runs on six hits and five walks in 3.2 innings. He struck out four.

It was a laborious outing for Holmes, who fell one walk shy of matching his season high and couldn't get through four innings despite throwing 85 pitches. The five runs allowed also established a season worst, and the former reliever is showing signs of fatigue late in his first full campaign as a starter. Holmes is now up to a career-high 126 innings, which is nearly double his previous career high, and he has a 5.45 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 26:17 K:BB across 38 frames since the start of July. He's tentatively scheduled to take the ball this weekend versus the Mariners.

  • Braves' Spencer Strider: Hammered by Mets for eight runs

Strider (5-10) took the loss Tuesday against the Mets, allowing eight runs on eight hits and two walks in four innings. He struck out two.

After getting knocked around for a season-high 11 hits allowed in his last start, Strider was hammered for a season-worst eight runs Tuesday. The two punchouts were also a season low for the hard-throwing right-hander, who has now been tagged for 13 runs on 19 hits over his past two outings. Strider has a 5.79 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 43:15 K:BB covering 37.1 innings since the beginning of July, so he'll be aiming to rediscover his form his next time out in Cleveland this weekend.

  • Jose Berrios SP | TOR

Blue Jays' Jose Berrios: Spins 5.1 shutout frames in win

Berrios (9-4) earned the win Tuesday against the Cubs, allowing two hits and four walks in 5.1 scoreless innings. He struck out three.

Tuesday marked Berrios' first scoreless start since June 27 in Boston, and the two hits allowed matched a season low. However, the four walks fell one short of tying a season high, and the right-hander has surpassed five strikeouts on just one occasion over his last eight outings. Berrios has a weak 4.95 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 30:12 K:BB across those last eight appearances (40 innings) since the start of July, though he'll try to build on Tuesday's positive showing this weekend at home versus the Rangers.
