  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Escapes with no-decision Saturday

Garrett didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Orioles, giving up four runs on six hits and a walk over 4.2 innings. He struck out five.

The southpaw got the hook after 81 pitches (53 strikes) with one runner on base and the Marlins ahead 5-4, ensuring Garrett wouldn't end up in the loss column. The 25-year-old remarkably hasn't been on the losing end of a decision since May 8, going 4-0 in 12 starts over that stretch with a 2.89 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 78:10 K:BB through 65.1 innings. He next lines up for a home outing next weekend against the Rockies.

  • Chris Bassitt SP | BAL

Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: Earns win in bumped-up start

Bassitt (9-5) earned the win Saturday, allowing two runs on seven hits over six innings against the Diamondbacks. He struck out five.

Bassitt was able to pitch his way out of jams for most of the afternoon while filling in for Kevin Gausman (left side discomfort) on short notice, with the exception of the fourth inning, when he allowed four consecutive hits with two outs, which led to two runs coming across for Arizona. Those would be the only two runs he'd allow in the contest, as the right-hander went on to secure his ninth win of the season. The 6-foot-5 veteran has won his last two decisions (spanning four starts) despite allowing at least six hits in each of his last three starts and currently holds a 14:1 K:BB in July. Bassitt has also gone at least six innings in three of his last four outings.

  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Giants' Alex Cobb: Sharp in no-decision against Bucs

Cobb didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Pirates, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out five.

The veteran right-hander had to wait out a 40-minute rain delay before taking the mound, but Cobb was unfazed and delivered his eighth quality start of the year on 94 pitches (58 strikes). He's allowed two earned runs or less in four straight outings dating back to June 13, posting a 2.14 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 20:4 K:BB through 21 innings over that stretch. He'll try to keep rolling in his next start, which is likely to come next week in Cincinnati.

  • Taijuan Walker SP | LAA

Phillies' Taijuan Walker: Extends win streak to seven

Walker (11-3) picked up the win in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Padres, giving up two runs on four hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out three.

It was far from a dominating performance, but Walker got plenty of run support in a 9-4 victory. The right-hander has reeled off seven straight wins since June 6, a stretch in which he sports a 1.84 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 43:15 K:BB through 44 innings. The key to his recent success has been his ability to keep the ball in the park -- Walker's served up only two homers during his win streak, after getting taken deep 10 times in his first 57.1 innings this season.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Red Sox's James Paxton: Lit up in third inning

Paxton (5-2) took the loss Saturday, allowing six runs on three hits and three walks over three innings against the Cubs. He struck out four.

Paxton struck out two of the first three batters he faced and cruised through the first two innings without allowing any base runners. He fell apart in the third, however, walking Christopher Morel to open the frame before hitting Miguel Amaya in the next at-bat. The lefty would go on to allow six runs in the inning, topped off by a grand slam from Cody Bellinger, and was relieved by Tayler Scott to open the fourth. The six runs allowed marked a season high for Paxton after the veteran came into the contest having won his last four decisions (spanning six starts).

  • Ranger Suarez SP | BOS

Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Delivers quality start Saturday

Suarez didn't factor into the decision in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Padres, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks over six innings in a 6-4 win. He struck out three.

He tossed 97 pitches (59 strikes) en route to his seventh quality start in 12 trips to the mound this season, but Suarez got out-dueled by Blake Snell while both lefties were still in the game and exited in line for his fifth loss. The Phillies' offense mounted the first of two successful comebacks on the day to get him off the hook, however. Suarez will take a 3.84 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 62:25 K:BB through 68 innings into his next outing, likely to come next weekend in Cleveland.

  • Blake Snell SP | LAD

Padres' Blake Snell: Strong start wasted

Snell didn't factor into the decision in a 6-4 loss to the Phillies during the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, allowing three hits and three walks over five scoreless innings. He struck out seven.

The southpaw extended his scoreless streak to 21 innings with another dazzling performance and exited the game with the Padres ahead 3-0, but the bullpen quickly squandered the lead. Snell hasn't been scored upon since the first inning of a June 28 outing against the Pirates and hasn't given up more than two runs in a start since May 25, posting a stunning 0.62 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 91:25 K:BB in 58 innings over that latter stretch while going 5-1. Not much has gone right for San Diego this season -- the team sits five games below .500 after getting swept in Saturday's twin bill -- but Snell re-discovering his Cy Young form has been one of the bright spots.

  • Johan Oviedo SP | BOS

Pirates' Johan Oviedo: Shuts down Giants

Oviedo allowed one earned run on one hit and three walks while striking out 10 across seven innings Saturday against the Giants. He did not factor into the decision.

Oviedo entered Saturday's start having allowed 13 earned runs across his last 11.2 innings. He bounced back against the Giants, matching his highest strikeout total in a game this season while backing that with 18 swinging strikes on 107 total pitches. Oviedo has been inconsistent on a start-to-start basis, though he has now allowed two or fewer earned runs in 11 of his 19 appearances.

  • Marcus Stroman SP | NYY

Cubs' Marcus Stroman: Earns 10th win

Stroman (10-6) earned the win Saturday, allowing one run on three hits and one walk over six innings against the Red Sox. He struck out three.

Stroman was cruising through Boston's lineup Saturday before surrendering a leadoff double to Justin Turner in the top of the fourth, which would eventually lead to one run coming across for the Red Sox. The right-hander would then go 1-2-3 over the next two innings to log his major league-leading 15th quality start. Stroman had allowed at least three runs in each of his last three starts coming in and now holds a 5.40 ERA in July after Saturday's performance. His ERA of 2.88 on the season currently ranks fifth in the National League.

  • Kodai Senga RP | NYM

Mets' Kodai Senga: Strikes out nine in no-decision

Senga allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out nine batters over six innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Saturday.

Senga surrendered a solo homer to Mookie Betts in the third inning but otherwise kept the Dodgers off the scoreboard. He didn't get much run support, however, and had to settle for a no-decision despite notching his second straight quality start. Senga has looked great in those two outings, allowing just two runs and posting a 21:3 K:BB over 14 frames. The right-hander has struggled with walks at times this season but has otherwise adjusted to MLB quite well, posting a 3.20 ERA and 1.26 WHIP across 95.2 innings. He ranks seventh in the National League with 122 punchouts.
