Reese Olson SP | DET
Tigers' Reese Olson: Not starting Thursday
Olson won't start Thursday's makeup game with the Phillies after Wednesday's contest was postponed due to poor air quality conditions in Philadelphia, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Prior to the postponement, Olson had been the scheduled to start Wednesday. The Tigers' decision to turn to reliever Tyler Holton as the opening pitcher for Thursday's game suggests that Olson may have gone through an extensive warmup prior to the postponement Wednesday. Detroit hasn't indicated whether Olson will be available in relief behind Holton, but the Tigers would have Garrett Hill on hand as a multi-inning option out of the bullpen once Holton exits the contest. If Olson isn't used Thursday, he'll most likely make his next start in Monday's series opener versus Atlanta.

Reese Olson SP | DET
Tigers' Reese Olson: Tigers-Phillies postponed
Olson and the Tigers won't play the Phillies on Wednesday after the game was postponed due to poor air quality in Philadelphia.
With the Canadian wildfires creating hazardous air in many parts of the northeastern United States, Wednesday's game will be postponed to Thursday at 6:05 p.m. ET, in the hope that playing conditions will be more favorable in 24 hours. As a result of the postponement, Olson will likely be bumped back just one day in the schedule and start Thursday.

Lance Lynn SP | STL
White Sox's Lance Lynn: White Sox-Yankees postponed
Lynn won't start Wednesday's against the Yankees after the game was postponed due to poor air quality in New York on account of smoke.
Lynn will instead get the ball for the first half of Thursday's doubleheader in The Bronx, assuming the hazardous air from Canadian wildfires dissipates to the point where both games can be played. The 36-year-old righty gave up eight earned runs on eight hits, two walks and two hit-by-pitches in his last turn through the White Sox's rotation May 31 versus the Angels as his season ERA climbed to 6.55.

Randy Vasquez SP | SD
Yankees' Randy Vasquez: Yankees-White Sox postponed
Vasquez won't start Wednesday's game against the White Sox after the game was postponed due to poor air quality in New York on account of smoke.
The Yankees planned to call up Vasquez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for a spot start Wednesday, but wildfires in Canada have brought hazardous air to parts of the upper East Coast. The game will be made up as part of a twin bill Thursday, with Vasquez set to be called up to start Game 2. Luis Severino will get the ball for the Yankees in Game 1.

Carlos Rodon SP | NYY
Yankees' Carlos Rodon: Faces hitters Wednesday
Rodon (back/forearm) threw 20 pitches in a live bullpen session before Wednesday's game against Chicago, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
Rodon told Phillips he threw around 20 pitches to Oswaldo Cabrera and Jake Bauers in the session. His fastball reportedly sat 92-94 mph, and he threw all of his pitches in the outing. The next step for the southpaw is another live session, but he's unsure when that will take place. Rodon has missed all of the 2023 campaign with forearm and back trouble, but in theory he could make his first-ever start as a member of the Yankees near the end of June if he continues to progress on schedule.

Roansy Contreras SP | COL
Pirates' Roansy Contreras: Ambushed by Oakland
Contreras (3-5) took the loss Wednesday, allowing seven runs on six hits and two walks over one-third of an inning against the Athletics. He struck out one.
The first seven A's all reached base safely before Contreras could record an out. The 23-year-old righty would depart after surrendering the sixth hit of the inning before Rob Zastryzny walked in two more runs. Contreras has now allowed 12 earned runs over just 4.1 innings in his last two outings. His ERA is up to 5.91 with a 1.54 WHIP and 43:25 K:BB through 11 starts (56.1 innings) this season.

Matthew Liberatore SP | STL
Cardinals' Matthew Liberatore: Surrenders five runs in loss
Liberatore (1-2) took the loss Tuesday against the Rangers after allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out two over four innings.
Liberatore started out with a clean opening frame but then proceeded to allow a run apiece in the second and third, and three more in the fourth before his day was over. The 23-year-old has racked up just five strikeouts over his last 10 innings after he had six strikeouts over five innings during his 2023 debut on May 17. Even with his recent struggles, the expectation is that Liberatore will remain in the rotation as the team gauges his readiness for the MLB level after moving Steven Matz to the bullpen. He now stands at a 6.00 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 11:8 K:BB over 15 innings. His next chance to right the ship should come next week against the Giants.

Freddy Peralta SP | TB
Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Nine strikeouts in no-decision
Peralta allowed two runs on six hits and no walks while striking out nine over five innings of work Tuesday against the Orioles. He did not factor into the decision.
The only damage against Peralta was done on a second-inning, two-run homer by Aaron Hicks. Overall, he had one of his better performances in a while. He generated 20 whiffs, and his nine strikeouts were his highest total since he had 10 on May 2. He also did not give out any free passes for just the second time this year. Peralta has given up a home run in five straight starts and has surrendered 11 total on the season, which is something that has not been an issue for him over the duration of his career. The 27-year-old now owns a 4.55 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 70:25 K:BB across 65.1 innings this season.

Kyle Gibson SP | BAL
Orioles' Kyle Gibson: Strikes out seven in no-decision
Gibson allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out seven across five innings Tuesday against the Brewers. He did not factor into the decision.
The Brewers had five batters reach base against Gibson in the opening frame, leading to their only two runs against him. Gibson was able to settle in afterward and even struck out the side in the fifth to finish his day on a strong note. His seven strikeouts were his most since he piled up 11 back on April 22 and he's now allowed two runs or fewer in four of his last six starts. The 35-year-old sports a 3.87 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 54:25 K:BB over 76.2 innings and is tentatively expected to take the mound next against the Royals over the weekend.
