Cal Quantrill RP | TEX
Guardians' Cal Quantrill: Posts third straight quality start
Quantrill did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over six innings against the Angels. He struck out two.
Quantrill came back to earth after throwing seven innings of one-hit baseball in his last start, giving up three runs and earning yet another quality start. The Angels got to Quantrill early, with Mickey Moniak slugging a solo homer to lead off the first inning before a two-run, one-hit, two-walk third frame brought the advantage to 3-0 in favor of LAA. Though Quantrill is known for his ability to limit damage and generate ground balls, his 1.53 K/BB rate this season makes it difficult for the 28-year-old to climb the fantasy ranks. Quantrill is in line for a meeting with the Mets next week, who strike out the third-fewest times per game in MLB (7.53).

Adrian Houser SP | SF
Brewers' Adrian Houser: Goes just four innings Saturday
Houser allowed three runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out two batters over four-plus innings in a no-decision against Kansas City on Saturday.
Houser was somewhat fortunate to have escaped the outing with just three runs on his ledger, as he allowed multiple baserunners in each of his four full frames. The right-hander remained in the contest to begin the fifth but was yanked after surrendering a leadoff solo homer to Salvador Perez. Houser didn't fool many batters with just five swinging strikes, and he needed 88 pitches to get just 12 outs. He'll likely remain in the rotation for the time being, though he's failed to impress through his first two starts, allowing five runs and 15 hits over 8.2 frames.

Reid Detmers SP | LAA
Angels' Reid Detmers: Still chasing first victory
Detmers did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over five innings against the Guardians. He struck out three.
Detmers seemed primed to pick up his first win of 2023, exiting the game with a 3-2 lead that reached 6-2 by the bottom of the eighth. However, a six-run offensive barrage by the Guardians quickly ruined any hopes of a Detmers win, as Cleveland took a two-run advantage and held the Angels off the board in the top of the ninth. Detmers fell victim to a Guardians team that strikes out the second-fewest times per game, fanning just three batters after recording at least six punchouts in five of his first six starts. Though the 23-year-old has found success in the strikeout column, he has yet to find ways to keep runners from scoring with a 4.89 ERA through 35.0 innings. Detmers is slated to toe the rubber again Friday against the Twins, who strike out the third-most in MLB.

Roansy Contreras SP | COL
Pirates' Roansy Contreras: Takes loss despite solid outing
Contreras (3-4) took the loss against Baltimore on Saturday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out one batter.
Contreras didn't allow more than one hit in any inning Saturday, but he was dinged for a pair of solo homers to account for the two runs against him. Meanwhile, a trio of Baltimore pitchers held Pittsburgh to three hits and no runs, resulting in Contreras being saddled with a tough-luck loss. The right-hander nonetheless finished with his fourth quality start of the campaign despite notching a season-low one punchout. Contreras has allowed two or fewer runs in five of his eight starts, but a few rough outings have put his season ERA at a less-than-inspiring 4.40.

Tyler Wells RP | TB
Orioles' Tyler Wells: Tosses gem against Pirates
Wells (3-1) earned the win over Pittsburgh on Saturday, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out eight batters over seven scoreless innings.
Wells was fantastic in the victory, giving up just one hit -- a second-inning single. He retired 17 straight batters after that base knock before appearing to run out of steam with back-to-back two-out walks in the seventh frame. Wells racked up an impressive 18 swinging strikes and punched out a career-high eight batters in his second quality start of the campaign. The right-hander is in the midst of a career-best season, posting a 2.68 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and 39:9 K:BB over 42 innings.

Steven Matz RP | TB
Cardinals' Steven Matz: Quiet in no-decision
Matz did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing three runs on eight hits and one walk over 5.1 innings against Boston. He struck out four.
Though Matz was tagged for eight hits, the most he's given up since April 10, he managed to keep the ball in the park, allowing no home runs for just the second time this season. The veteran southpaw has yet to earn a win in 2023 while holding a 5.63 ERA and a 2.3 K/BB. He may have to wait one more start to pick up the elusive victory, as Matz is tentatively scheduled for a matchup with the Dodgers, who are scoring 5.44 runs per game this season and boast the fourth-best record in MLB.

Chris Sale SP | ATL
Red Sox's Chris Sale: Vintage showing spoiled
Sale did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing one run on three hits and one walk over eight innings against St. Louis. He struck out nine.
Sale turned back the clock Saturday, giving up one run across eight innings while approaching his season high in strikeouts (11). The lone blemish for Sale came in the seventh frame, when Nolan Arenado tagged him for a solo home run. However, Sale's chances for a victory were ruined by Kenley Jansen, who walked a trio of batters and blew a 3-1 lead in the top of the ninth inning. Though Sale holds a 5.40 ERA, which would be a career high, he has provided fantasy managers with a high strikeout rate (11.3 K/9) to offset the struggles with damage control.

Ranger Suarez SP | BOS
Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Goes four innings in debut
Suarez allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four over four innings in a no-decision during Saturday's 7-4 win over the Rockies.
Suarez missed six weeks with a left elbow strain, and he was limited to 72 pitches (44 strikes) in his season debut. He left with the Phillies up by a run, but the short start meant that Suarez was not eligible for the win. The southpaw was solid in 2022 with a 3.65 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 129:58 K:BB across 155.1 innings over 29 starts. He may need another outing or two to get his pitch count up, but he should be a fixture in the Phillies' rotation if he stays healthy. Suarez is projected for a home start versus the Cubs next week.

James Kaprielian SP | TOR
Athletics' James Kaprielian: Strong showing in MLB return
Kaprielian (0-3) took the loss Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk over seven innings in a 5-0 loss to the Rangers. He struck out seven.
Kaprielian rejoined the Athletics from Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday and immediately took the mound against Texas. After giving up 18 runs across his first three starts (13.1 innings) for Oakland this season, Kaprielian was pushed to the bullpen. He managed just three relief appearances before being sent down to the minors, giving up five runs over 2.2 innings. Despite the shift to the pen, Kaprielian was fully stretched out Saturday, throwing 104 pitches over seven innings. Though he gave up only three runs while striking out seven, the A's offense was shut out by Jon Gray and John King, handing Kaprielian his third loss of the season. Though the start was a sign of life for the 29-year-old, it's not a sure thing that Kaprielian remains a part of Oakland's pitching rotation moving forward.

Zac Gallen SP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Turns in strong start
Gallen (6-1) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six over 7.2 innings to earn the win over the Giants on Saturday.
Gallen had another excellent start in his longest outing of the year. He threw 66 of 97 pitches for strikes en route to earning his sixth win in his last seven starts. After a shaky first two starts of the year, Gallen has rebounded to his full potential. He has a 2.35 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 70:8 K:BB across 57.1 innings through nine outings overall. The Arizona ace is projected to make his next start on the road in Pittsburgh.
